Job Overview:
The Cardiology Ambulatory RN provides comprehensive nursing care for patients in the outpatient cardiology clinic, supporting individuals with a range of cardiovascular conditions including coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, and post-interventional follow-up.
The RN collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, diagnostic staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to coordinate and deliver patient-centered care
The role emphasizes:
- Ongoing clinical assessment, triage, and symptom management for cardiology patients
- Patient and caregiver education on cardiovascular health, medications, and lifestyle changes
- Coordination of diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, and follow-up appointments
- Early identification and communication of changes in patient condition to ensure timely interventions
- Delivery of evidence-based, culturally sensitive care in accordance with institutional policies and national cardiology care standards
- Conducts thorough nursing assessments for cardiology outpatients, documenting findings and communicating any clinical concerns to providers
- Triages patient calls and messages, providing guidance within scope of practice and escalating when necessary
- Coordinates diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, echocardiograms, stress testing) and ensures timely review of results
- Provides patient and caregiver education regarding cardiac medications, risk factor modification, and follow-up care
- Performs medication reconciliation, evaluates adherence, and reports discrepancies to the care team
- Assists with management of patients requiring same-day interventions or IV therapies per protocol
- Collaborates with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care
- Supports post-procedure follow-up and monitoring, ensuring patients adhere to care plans and safety precautions
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and data collection related to outpatient cardiac care
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource for patients, families, and staff regarding cardiovascular disease management and prevention
Qualifications:
- Current NJ RN license
- Graduate of an accredited NLN Nursing program
- BSN Degree
- Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, with at least 1- 2 years in cardiology, telemetry, or critical care preferred
- Current BLS Certification required
- Strong cardiovascular assessment and patient triage skills
- Excellent verbal and writtent communication skills
- Experience in ambulatory/outpatient services preferred
- Ability to manage and provide safe nursing care in a high volume practice and demonstrates a positive, professional manner.
Scheduling Requirement:

- Functions as a conduit for all patient-care related information between attending physician, consultants, house staff, nursing, and other ancillary staff. Determines and relays to other providers, as appropriate, modified treatment plans and/or other interventions.
- Provides first-level response to acute changes in patient status or complications and initiates appropriate measures.
- Performs daily patient rounding and follow-up for cardiac surgical patients including physical examination, and diagnostic and therapeutic intervention(s). Orders routine laboratory and diagnostic studies, medications, and consultations for patients on the service, to be co-signed within 24 hours by a physician involved in the patient's care. Documents on a daily basis in the permanent medical record the patient status and further plan based on interpreted data.
- Elicits a detailed history, performs physical examinations, writes assessments and orders, and presents pertinent data for all cardiac surgical admissions.
- Performs the skills as outlined in the Cardiac Surgery physician assistant delineation of privileges (i.e. removal of chest tubes/pacing wires, arterial line placement, central line placement, foley catheter placement, etc.). *Not an exhaustive list and congruent with competency/skill level.
- Orients medical students, physician assistant students, surgical interns, and junior surgical residents to Mount Auburn Hospital patient-care practices and hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs and/or assists the physician staff in requirements for hemodynamic monitoring and overall preparation of the patient for surgery.
- Plans and executes all coordinate elements of the patient discharge.
QUALIFICATIONS:1. Graduate of an American Academy of Physician Assistant (AAPA)-approved PA training program.2. Board certification as outlined by the Massachusetts State Board of Registration of Physician Assistants.3. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification is required.4. Massachusetts Controlled Substance (DPH) and DEA certificates are required.5. Surgical experience preferred, including experience in performing or assisting with acute hospital-level ICU/surgical procedures.6. Job Overview: We are looking for a passionate Quality Advisor who is excited about making a difference in patient safety outcomes. As the ED/BH Quality Advisor, you will work closely with a diverse group of medical professionals acting as a liaison to the medical staff peer review committee. With a keen eye for details, you will perform chart reviews for cases involving but not limited to mortality and morbidity, hospital acquired conditions and patient safety indicators. Your proactive approach will support hospital-wide initiatives for regulatory and accreditation processes to continuously improve our operations. With your expertise, you will develop and implement effective quality strategies, provide guidance to our ED and Behavioral Health team members and champion best practices throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
- Licensed RN in the State of New Jersey
- Minimum of 2 years of hospital nursing experience in Emergency Services and Behavioral Health preferred
- Experienced with Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft products
- Knowledge of Epic EMR program
- Quality and Safety experience preferred
Certifications and Licensure:
- Graduate from an accredited NLN Nursing Program
- Active NJ RN licensure or Compact state licensure with ability to practice in NJ
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time
- Day
- 37.5 hour work week Mon-Fri
- No weekends, no holidays, no on-call
Essential Functions:
- Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in reviewing all patients with high-end devices and provides quality review.
- Leads and participates in process improvement for the program(s) and for the quality of clinical outcomes.
- Maintain database(s) of patients, outcome, and complications and submit them to the national registry as required.
- Provide comprehensive guidance on the appropriate use of temporary devices enabling staff to deliver safe and positive patient outcomes.
- Maintains files, minutes, and quality presentations in accordance with any regulatory requirements.
- Refers to other disciplines as appropriate.
- Integrates research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.
- Exemplifies a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation.
- Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
- Maintains certifications and continuing education as required for licensure.
- Participates in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate.
- Assists the critical care educator in developing programs to meet continuing education needs.
