JOB SUMMARY:

As a Project Manager, you will be accountable for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of any given project. Additionally, the Project Manager ensures budget and deadlines are met and consistent with project standards.


DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create a Schedule of Values for our pay applications and submit to the General Contractor.
  • Analyze the construction schedule and create a schedule for submittals, material ordering and estimated field labor durations & project completion.
  • Create submittals for doors, frames and hardware from architectural plans and specification.
  • Manage and respond to electronic contractual changes (RFI’s, PC’s, Etc.). Quote changes that affect our material and/or labor cost. Distribute Change Order Due letters to the contractor.
  • Order materials (Purchase orders) from approved submittals for timely delivery according to the construction schedule or as agreed upon with the contractor for billed and stored material.
  • Support the Performance Door project field supervisor for the timely delivery of materials according to the construction schedule. Send field use drawings periodically reflecting updated schedules incorporating project revisions.
  • Provide monthly pay application to the accounting department including back up documentation for stored or FSC materials.
  • Actively pursue contractual “Change Orders” from “price and proceed” CO Due letters. Take an active role in collecting money.
  • Approve weekly vendor invoices for payment. Check vendor costs against our purchase order.

Position Summary:
Position maintains detailed understanding of project specifications and all requirements necessary for appropriate trades support, ensuring safe and efficient production in ship repair/industrial fabrication operations. Provides oversight to qualified trades workforce & trades supervision and is responsible for meeting overall schedule, budget, quality, and safety goals of work assigned.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports labor requirements for completion of job assignments. Understand specifications, blueprints, and job orders in order to effectively communicate duties to work teams. Maintains adequate personnel/manning levels, production space, tooling, and equipment assets, while establishing work processes to meet production schedules. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crews. Analyzes and resolves work problems to minimize disruptions to production schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Manages all shop resources by assigning trades personnel to Foremen based on project needs.
  • Supports trades foremen in supervising, assigning, coordinating, training, and evaluating semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees and assists in development of training processes/procedures. Continually monitor foremen's project designations, deck plate presence, understanding of work scope, and efficiency of trades management.
  • Manages lifecycle of shop personnel through all phases of employment, to include: hiring and retention efforts of shop personnel, as well as developing/delivering coaching and disciplinary actions needed to address performance concerns. Responsible for personnel administration needs, to include recommendations/handling of change requests facilitated by EANs (pay, reclassification, etc.).
  • Engaged in workforce development by identifying candidates for additional development/mentorship opportunities, support succession planning efforts, and ensuring assigned apprentices have appropriate oversight and developmental resources.
  • Breaks broad projects down to practical action plans, ensuring adequate shop manning resources, and develops/executes POD for all shop resources (with the input of Foreman) daily to ensure production goals are executed safely and efficiently.
  • Responsible for final approval and presentation of all project deliverables via condition reports and approval/management of all material orders, ensuring contractual requirements and period of performance are met.
  • Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. and manages test and inspection plans for assigned areas (overseeing submittal of required documentation, ensure foreman attend inspections as required, etc.).
  • Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance.

Additionally, position will:
  • Provide data/feedback for current budgets via hours management/EACs, including dates, and report scheduling and progress updates to superintendents/project management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors/Registered Apprentice (grad) + 2 years relative trades experience (or HS + 6 years trades experience) and 2 years of prior supervisory experience.

    • K. Pumps to include Valving (internal & external), Bearing & Sealing arrangements, Alignment (dial indicator & laser).
    • Deck machinery: gear boxes, bearings/seal arrangements, alignments, drivers (electric, mechanical, or hydraulic), sheaves, cables, turrets, booms
  • Instruct lower classes of machinists, manage work/personnel assignments and the requisition of job materials.
  • Upholding a safe work environment is key daily tasks require safe handling/use/storage of gasses; safe work practices; PPE; tank safe opening practices; lock-out/tag-out; confined space practices; respirator/harness fit; oil spill response.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least seven (7) years of experience as a Machinist.
  • Must have experience with manual lathes and mills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other technical trade related documents
  • Must have adept mechanical ability, manual dexterity, and hand/eye coordination required to perform various projects, per drawings, sketches, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Must have clean driving record.

Steel America is seeking 2nd Class Inside Machinists experienced in Manual Machining and/or CNC Mills & Lathes to support operations in the Inside Machine Shop in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
  • Examines blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Perform complex operations on various machine tools, including drill presses, lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and precision grinding machines.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Read precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Select standard materials required for fabrication and machining work.
  • Perform the machining operations, watch for problems in the production process, and check the accuracy of the finished piece against blueprints / verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Observe equipment to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjust equipment controls as necessary, and verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
