Job Summary

PetSmartโ€™s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the companyโ€™s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, and pet safety standards as well as the direct care of pets within our store.ย 

Essential Responsibilitiesย 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:ย 

  • Responsible for the pet parent experience and outcomes conducted in person, over the phone, at the sales register and online.ย ย 
  • Greets pet parents and answers their questions throughout the store.ย ย 
  • Prepares online orders for pick-up in store and ensures a smooth, positive, pick-up experience.ย ย 
  • Responsible for the pet healthcare of store owned pets, which includes feeding, watering and cleaning all pet habitats (bird, reptile, small animal, cricket, and fish aquariums).ย ย ย 
  • Maintains total store cleanliness standards.ย 
  • Supports the store with weekly price changes and monthly promotional pricing.ย 
  • Stages and sorts new product to match sales floor planners.ย 
  • Faces, fills, and recovers products to meet sales floor standards.ย 
  • Recommends, informs, and sells merchandise, services and live pets.ย 
  • Administers store owned pet medications as directed by veterinarianย 
  • Promotes special events such as adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, charity events, etc.ย ย ย 
  • Ensures a safe environment for our associates, pets, and pet parents.ย 
  • Responsible for taking immediate action when a sick/injured pet is identified in the store; transport to the vet as needed.ย 
  • Assists and works in various areas throughout the store (including services) as required. Other duties may be assigned.ย

  • Follows all Company Policies and Procedures.ย

Essential physical demands and work environment

  • Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, reviews orders and prescriptions for appropriateness and patient safety
  • Ensures that medication profiles are accurate and up to date
  • Checks for drug interactions, incompatibilities and optimum drug therapy
  • Participates in narcotic and controlled drug distribution programs as required
  • Audits medication records and makes necessary correctionsย 
  • Explains proper use of all prescriptions for outpatients.
  • Accountable for investigational drug study integrity
  • Ensures that non-sterile, sterile, and hazardous medications are prepared in accordance with USP 795, 797, and 800 regulation
  • Supplies drug information to physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team
  • Participates in the department's in-service education program.
  • Performs monthly nursing unit inspections as assigned ย 
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:

  • BS or PharmD Degree

Preferred:ย 

  • Completion of ASHP residency program
Licensure/Certification Requirements

Required:

  • Active NYS Pharmacy License

Preferred:ย 

  • Board Certification from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties
