Responsibilities

** This is a limited tenure position for a maximum of 2 years. **

The Anatomic Pathology Core Lab is looking for a Lab Processing Assistant to join their team. The Histology Laboratory processes over 400,000 paraffin-embedded blocks and 1,500,00 slides per year. Specimens handled in this laboratory include surgical, autopsy, and research material. The laboratory takes pride in contributing to the accurate diagnosis of the patient and the expansion of scientific knowledge through the services it offers both pathologists, and research investigators.

As an LPA you will be an integral part of the laboratory team, and your responsibilities will include:

  • Actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives Performing pre-analytic specimen processing

Qualifications

** This is a limited tenure position for a maximum of 2 years. **

An associate degree or a high school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of work experience including clinical laboratory and/or other relevant experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a health or science field preferred.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment desired.
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintain equipment inventory, ensuring the information is accurate and updated promptly.

  • Perform general troubleshooting of laboratory operation issues as they arise.
  • Support the development and maintenance of procedures to ensure compliant lab operations.

Required Qualifications:


  • A.S. or B.S. in Life Sciences or Facilities Management with management/technical emphasis.
  • Minimum 1 year of pharmaceutical, life sciences, or biotech experience in an academic or industry setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience implementing maintenance and repair programs in a Research & Development (R&D) facility.

About the position:
The Quality Lab Sensory Analyst position at Givaudan involves evaluating flavoring products and incoming ingredients through sensory evaluations and basic physical-chemical. Under general supervision, the analyst will identify and document non-conforming products, applying simple corrections as necessary. The role requires performing basic equipment calibrations and supporting various laboratory functions as directed. The analyst will enter test results into the computer system, SAP, leading to either approval or rejection of products based on the evaluations conducted. In addition to the core responsibilities, the analyst will support miscellaneous lab functions, which may include pre-shipment sample processing, filing retain samples, maintaining lab supplies, and disposing of liquid hazardous waste.


The role also involves identifying out-of-specification results and applying simple corrections, as well as documenting and communicating non-conformances to higher-level quality personnel and operations as needed. The analyst will analyze and collect data for investigations and must work in accordance with all relevant requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), American Institute of Baking (AIB), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and internal safety guidelines. Participation in site training sessions and improvement projects related to quality, food safety, safety, problem-solving, lean manufacturing, and 5S is also expected. The position requires excellent attendance, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a positive approach to teamwork.

Lab Analyst I

This position performs routine testing on all samples in the Analytical Services laboratory, providing analytical data for process control, quality control, process development, product development, and waste management. Employee will be required to work eight hours shifts, and rotating days within shift every three to four months. KC Quality Control lab is a 24 hours production site that operates on three shifts.


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine analytical testing as directed by protocols and work instructions.

• Work a variety of shifts (including weekends and holidays).

• Request additional work to increase team productivity.

• Prepare solutions, clean glassware, dispose of solid/liquid waste and other duties to help in the overall operations of the laboratory.

• Train others on waste management.

• Alert lab leadership of issues or discrepancies involving sample integrity, supply inventory, safety concerns, or analysis irregularities.

• Communicate troubleshooting opportunities in testing processes.

• Perform routine analytical testing as directed by protocols and work instructions.

• Work a variety of shifts (including weekends and holidays).

• Request additional work to increase team productivity.

• Conduct basic (operational) preventative maintenance according to work instructions. Identify and communicate operational issues of laboratory instruments and equipment KPIs Understand and operate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Chromatography Data System (CDS) system, and other instrument specific computer systems.

• Search various databases for test methods, specifications, and standards to locate information required to complete analyses.

• Promptly and accurately record, calculate and report analytical results.

• Review analytical data and various LIMS reports.

• Communicate and discuss any issues with team members and supervisor.

• Complete data entry for metrics and KPIs Identify process improvement ideas and communicate opportunities.

• Assist in improving established procedures and implementing continuous improvement projects.

• Communicate testing results to customers as required; act with customers in mind. Notify leads when supplies/consumables are at critical levels.

• Observe good safety and housekeeping practices.

• Participate in lab/site safety programs and cross site initiatives.

• Maintain knowledgeable of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, waste codes, and how to immediately communicate discovery of spills and leaks


Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma + a minimum of 1-year lab experience

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• High attention to details and an ability to analyze outcomes against a standard.

• Ability to diagnose the typical instrument problems with little or no assistance and provide assistance to others.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize workload to optimize efficiency and productivity of the laboratory.


Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years laboratory experience

• Understands basic HPLC and GC operation.

What You’ll Do

Mechanical Property Testing

  • Tensile testing

  • Friction testing
  • 3-point and 4-point bending


Thermophysical Property Testing

  • Thermal conductivity testing (Laser Flash Analysis – LFA)
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion (Dilatometry – DIL)


Lab Operations

  • Operate and maintain Instron and other high-value testing equipment
  • Perform precision sample preparation and measurements
  • Follow detailed lab procedures and safety protocols
  • Ensure high data quality and documentation standards
  • Support fast test turnaround while maintaining rigor


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related engineering discipline

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in a materials testing laboratory
  • Experience running mechanical test equipment (e.g., Instron or equivalent)
  • Comfort working with high-value, sensitive lab instrumentation

About you and this role:

Supports manufacturing operations by conducting laboratory analyses and evaluating results, as needed, which provides critical data. Prepares samples and performs basic calibration, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and methods. Uses data systems to acquire data and monitor analytical system performance. Reports results to clients. Requires broadened technical skills in analytical scientific methods or operational processes to perform a defined array of activities. May act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.


Responsibilities/Duties

Responsible for waste treatment pond operation, pond rounds, water samples, outfall sampling and monitoring.

Performs routine analyses.

Collects samples according to the Sample Plan.

Prepares basic calibration standards.

Performs basic calibration and preventative maintenance of analytical systems.

Evaluates validity of data, applies basic statistics, interpret results and takes appropriate action.

Monitors analytical systems, identifies problems, conducts first-line troubleshooting and escalates as appropriate.

Documents, communicates and archives analytical results and calibration data.

Follows EH&S and operating discipline management system (ODMS) procedures and practices for work tasks.

Suggests improvements to lab work processes and tools.

Escalates non-routine requests to appropriate team member for follow-up.

Duties also include but are not limited to the following: environmental rounds, wastewater ponds operation and treatment, confirmation of raw materials.


Experience/Skills Required

Completion of Vocational Education or Upper Secondary Education (i.e. High School Diploma) plus laboratory, manufacturing or other related experience.

Post Upper Secondary Education coursework in chemistry or related coursework.


Preferred Skills/Ideal Profiles:

  • Preference for industry/manufacturing lab experience (vs. medical labs)
  • Understanding of lab safety, data integrity, measurements, and instruments
  • ISO and/or GMP experience is a plus
  • Must have stable work history (limited job hopping)
  • Must have strong communication skills and ability to work independently at times
  • Must live within reasonable commuting distance due to rural location, onsite requirement, and short notice coverage needs


Systems & Technical Skills:

  • Experience with LIMS and/or Sample Manager preferred
  • Data entry into SAP is beneficial
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills required (email, documents, procedures)
  • All lab instruments are trainable; no specific instrument experience required


Physical Requirements:

  • Constant standing, walking, hand movement, and repetition.
  • Occasional carrying, push/pull, reaching, twisting/turning, and bending while utilizing proper ergonomic techniques.
  • Physical requirements include long periods of standing or sitting, lifting up to 50 lb, climbing stairs and ladders, working in outside environment
  • Must be able to wear and use respirators.
