Position description

The Advanced BioImaging Center (ABC) in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for two Project Scientists at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank. The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank to commensurate with prior experience. The position will report to Professor Gokul Upadhyayula, with Professor Eric Betzig serving as an additional academic mentor. The project scientist will make significant and creative contributions in the area of machine learning & data analytics.



The Advanced BioImaging Center (ABC) at UC Berkeley aspires to be a world-leading multidisciplinary imaging center that drives important biological discoveries through critical new advances in all aspects of imaging technology and that drives the dissemination of that technology through a multi-pronged education strategy to scientists around the world. ABC was intentionally designed to maximize scientific productivity and impact by adopting groundbreaking imaging technologies such as the next-generation adaptive optical multifunctional microscope, incorporating the high-level technical expertise of instrumentation scientists, applied mathematicians, and computational scientists, and building worldwide collaborations aimed at tackling the challenges posed by terabyte and petabyte-scale imaging data processing, visualization, and dissemination. Members of the ABC have access to leading - edge imaging and computing hardware, as well as exposure to collaborators from a range of diverse disciplines, including in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, and more.



The Assistant/Associate/Full Project Scientists will be an integral part of a visionary scientific team driving cutting-edge biological discoveries through immediate applications of critical advances in imaging technologies. These positions will work with a dedicated team to develop data analytics software in terabyte- to petabyte-scale imaging projects. The incumbents will develop and refine machine learning applications and manage projects and provide regular progress reports to PIs and collaborators.

Successful candidates will be an integral part of the expert team working together with computational scientists and biologists in experimental design to tackle complex biological questions in a quantitative manner. The work will primarily be conducted at the facility in Barker Hall. Occasional travel may be required.



Key Responsibilities

*Make significant and creative contributions to development of new imaging and data processing tools for datasets generated on multicellular tissues, organoids, transparent embryos.

*Design, build, and maintain new software packages for efficient data processing.

*Advise on applications of these tools for biological imaging; collaborate with Postdocs and graduate students on specific projects to test, learn and implement for general and specific use cases.

*General organization and management of software documentation.

*Bring cross disciplinary expertise to solve problems at the intersection between life science, computer vision, and state-of-the-art AI methods.

*Work with petabyte-scale light sheet datasets that are typically 4D or 5D (x,y,z,t,chemistry). Identify and implement scalable solutions to scientific questions on large-scale data sets, especially using performant algorithms.

*Develop machine learning approaches, computer vision tools to help pre-process dataset and annotations to generate groundtruth benchmarks.

*Contribute to dissemination via open source code repositories, demonstrations, publications, presentation.

Position description

The Death Penalty Clinic was founded in 2001 on the principle that the right to a fair trial and equal protection under the law are core societal values. Through individual representation and impact litigation, the clinic puts this principle into practice. Our mission is to help students develop outstanding legal skills and to serve clients facing capital punishment. Our students gain a strong social justice orientation and the skills necessary to provide vigorous, professional, and high-level representation to their clients.



For more than two decades, clinic faculty and students have advocated on behalf of clients facing capital punishment in state and federal proceedings in states such as Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Texas. In some cases the clinic directly represents clients throughout post-conviction and clemency proceedings. In others, the clinic serves as co-counsel to investigate or litigate aspects of the capital case in which the clinic has particular expertise. The clinic has also filed amicus curiae briefs in the United States Supreme Court and California Supreme Court in cases involving challenges to discriminatory jury selection, race discrimination in the administration of the death penalty, and methods of execution.



The companion seminar engages students in the relevant substantive capital punishment law; habeas corpus practice and procedure; and the fundamentals of death penalty litigation, including fact investigation, interviewing skills, and the development of mitigation evidence.



Duties

Under the supervision of the Clinic Director and in collaboration with any future Clinical Supervising Attorney, the Supervising Attorney will be responsible for:



Clinical Supervision and Advocacy (80%)




  • Train and supervise six to eight Clinic students per semester
  • Collaborate with Clinic faculty and external co-counsel on projects/cases and with Clinic faculty on vetting new Clinic cases/projects
  • Develop and maintain Clinic relationships with clients, partners, co-counsel, and other stakeholders.
  • Travel for case work and offsite meetings as needed with Clinic students to work on Clinic cases.
  • Collaborate with Clinic faculty in managing the Clinic docket without students during summers.
  • Teach one to two Clinic seminar classes per year


Administrative Duties (15%)




  • Attend Clinic administrative meetings and collaborate with Clinic faculty in organizing programmatic events, such as conferences, workshops and speaker series.
  • Promote the Clinic to students and other constituencies
  • Engage in media relations and development, including speaking at public events and with the press.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and networking activities

We are seeking an entry-level Land Use Technician to support our Wireless Telecommunications and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure teams. This role contributes to projects that help expand digital connectivity and sustainable infrastructure across communities. The Land Use Technician assists Land Use Planners and Project Managers with the coordination and administration of zoning and permitting activities required for infrastructure deployment. DAY-TO-DAY


• Assist with obtaining permits for wireless telecommunications and electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects

• Prepare, organize, and submit permit applications to multiple jurisdictions

• Maintain and update internal and external project tracking databases to ensure accurate reporting of project statuses and timelines

• Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and jurisdictional resources to research site and zoning information

• Review jurisdiction ordinances and regulations to support Land Use Planners in determining zoning compliance

• Track and monitor permitting timelines and proactively follow up with jurisdictions to support project progress.

• Communicate with municipal development departments (planning, building, right-of-way, etc.), consultants, and internal teams to coordinate application requirements and provide project updates.

• Responsibilities include preparing and submitting jurisdictional applications, maintaining project tracking systems, conducting regulatory research, and supporting the overall permitting workflow.

• Prepare daily FedEx, certified mail, and standard mail submissions related to permitting documentation

• Scan, organize, title, notate, and upload project documentation into internal systems and client databases to maintain accurate records

Participate in client deployment calls and internal project coordination meetings

• Shadow the Land Use Planners at public hearings

The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is a luxury property within the Woodside Hotel Group collection. This 282-room property has four penthouse suites, over 30,000 square feet of meeting space.


We are seeking a Meetings & Events Manager to join our award-winning team. The Meetings & Events Manager is responsible for the management of group business after booking by the Sales department; generally, for groups with more than twenty-one (21) sleeping rooms. They will also respond to telephone and online requests for bookings and service of social events and weddings. These responsibilities include client development to ensure profitable events and functions, repeat and referred business. Accordingly, they upsell menus, suggest décor, floral, spa treatments, entertainment, and other enhancements to achieve their sales and guest satisfaction goals. They are a liaison between the hotel’s business interests, hotel personnel, and the group client. The Meetings & Events Manager represents the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa in a manner that enhances the reputation of the hotel within their market segment, the local community, and within the industry.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Executes their market segment’s business plan utilizing hotel assets. Manages client relations, upsells, and represents the hotel and market segment according to luxury property and Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa standards.
  2. Ensures profitable contracts are implemented on behalf of the hotel by regularly reviewing banquet event order details, attending pre-conference and other planning meetings, addressing required food and beverage contribution. Strategies to achieve or exceed their budgeted market segment goals quarterly. Regularly meets with the Director of Meetings & Events to evaluate client development efforts and strategize how to maximize spend.
  3. Maximizes sales and service by guiding clients through the finer details of events planning; suggests appropriate room sets, décor, floral, linens, and audio-visual requirements, and menus, spa experience, and other hotel services. Upsells food and beverage.
  4. Responsible for guest relations as it pertains to their market segment, which includes development of both prospective and existing business. Conducts site inspections with a guided tour offering detailed descriptions of services offered for potential and definite business by either a pre-arrangement or walk-in basis.
  5. Contacts clients to complete the resume questionnaires, review hotel policies and procedures, and finalize their banquet event order including completing special arrangements such as golf tee times, spouse tours, spa treatments, and restaurant reservations. Ensures client’s deposits are received. Confirms completed rooming lists, special arrangements, amenity requests, and menus and distributes all information as required.
  6. Creates, writes, proofs, and distributes banquet contracts, banquet event and change orders, room diagrams, and conference resumes. Processes accurate and timely information throughout the hotel as it pertains to their market accounts, performance results and future business. Ensures all on a need-to-know basis are appropriately informed in a timely manner. Completes all reports in a timely and conscientious manner as required or upon request.
  7. Ensures Banquets billing information is relayed to Accounts Receivable in a manner that is both accurate and timely. Gives direction to the Banquet Captains to ensure the efficiencies of their respective positions are met as it relates to meeting and exceeding service expectations.
  8. Responsible to check banquet room set-ups against banquet event order specifications. Acts as the client liaison with the banquets operational team to ensure functions run smoothly and according to the client’s expectations. Introduces client to the Banquet Captains to ensure the efficiencies of their respective positions are met as it relates to meeting and exceeding the guest’s expectations.
  9. Initiates consistent relevant communication with the Banquet Captains, Banquet Sous Chef, the senior Food & Beverage and Rooms management teams in addition to the senior Sales management team with respect to associate performance, client needs, sales efforts, and results.
  10. Attends weekly Meetings & Events, Department Head, and Sales & Marketing meetings. Represents the hotel at pre-cons, site visits, trade shows, and other meetings as necessary or as directed.
  11. Works cooperatively and in coordination with all other hotel departments and third-parties to deliver exceptional guest service to a luxury property standard.
  12. Observes all safety protocols and holds others accountable to hotel and departmental safety standards and procedures.
  13. Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILTIIES

  • Attends post-conference meetings when possible and records client preferences and send thank you notes to the client. Ensures a thank you is emailed along with an evaluation survey.
  • Ensures key details have been arranged according to banquet event order specifications and will meet or exceed guest expectations.
  • Introduces key guest contacts and meeting planners personally to the operational team responsible for their function. Acts as an on-site liaison for clients.
  • Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, they will be required to work a flexible schedule that meets business demands. While the schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday, the schedule may include weekend or holiday shifts.


TRAVEL

This position may travel occasionally for sales blitzes; trade shows or for departmental meetings. Any required travel is primarily local during the business day. Some out-of-area travel may be required and must be pre-approved by the Director of Meetings & Events.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have previous or current sales experience and computer experience.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to build rapport, upsell, negotiate and close business is critical.
  • Working knowledge of Amadeus/Delphi (Salesforce) and MS Office programs, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook is also needed.

Required Experience/Skills:
  • Associate degree in Physical Therapy from an American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Current state license to practice Physical Therapy.
  • Valid drivers license, auto insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Proof of current CPR certification.
  • Minimum two years experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant,
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the physical, emotional, social, and biological changes that occur in the geriatric population.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Provide guidance and direction to the night shift production floor personnel.
  • Coordinate daily production floor activities and delegate assignments to production personnel.
  • Communicate clear expectations to production personnel, keep them informed of matters pertaining to their job, and develop personnel growth opportunities.
  • Provide effective, constructive, and appropriate feedback and leadership to direct reports to foster positive team atmosphere.
  • Monitor employee work performance relative to expectations and maintain workflow through the facility.
  • Ensure equipment and tools are in good working order and available for use when required.
  • Ensure all stations are producing products to the company's quality standards.
  • Complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, and resolving problems.
  • Facilitate smooth shift handoffs with day shift supervisors to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with fast-changing priorities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources.
  • Maintain compliance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of recent manufacturing supervisor experience, preferably in plastics extrusion or continuous process manufacturing.
  • Experience working night shift or non-traditional hours preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to work independently during night shift hours.
  • Computer literate: Microsoft and computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret and implement OSHA standards for the facility.
  • Understanding of extrusion processes, quality control measures, and preventive maintenance practices a plus
