About the Role
The Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides patient care for transplant patients following established standards and practices. Functions to advance the clinical mission and goals of the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute through collaborative relationships within the Medical Center.

ย Key responsibilities include
- Communicates with potential transplant candidates and/or referring physicians.
- Facilitates the evaluation of both pre- and post-transplant patients by interfacing with referring physicians, Transplant hepatologists, Transplant nephrologists, Transplant surgeons, scheduling coordinators, consultants, insurance coordinators, and social workers. Primary responsibility for the planning implementation and evaluation of this process.
- Coordinates evaluation with the patient/family and appropriate members of the hospital, the transplant team, the patient's primary care physician and cardiologist and clinical consultants.
- Assess patients for placement on the transplant waiting list.
- Coordinates the complex management and education of patients' pre- and post-transplants. Communicates with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to maintain an accurate and current patient waiting list.
- ย Participate in clinical rounds meetings, conferences consultations and educational programs designed to increase knowledge and to improve patient care and staff performance; serve as a consultant to physicians and staff members regarding services in the specialty area
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in nursing required.ย
- Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers requiredย (AHA or American Red Cross)
- 3-4 years professional nursing experience required
- Previous transplant, hepatology, outpatient or dialysis experienceย preferred
- CCTC - Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator preferred

Inpatient Medical Surgical
Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, cellulitis, diverticulitis, respiratory infections, and small bowel obstructions.

Care for patients experiencing strokes, seizures, brain tumors, and intracranial bleeds while collaborating with neurology specialists.
Orthopedics
Support patients recovering from joint replacements, spine surgeries, and foot/ankle procedures.
General Surgery โ 3W
Care for surgical patients ranging from appendectomies to colon resections and bariatric procedures.
Medical Telemetry โ 7E & 7W
Monitor patients with cardiac concerns, chest pain, COPD exacerbations, infections, and gastrointestinal conditions.
Oncology โ 8W
Provide compassionate care for oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, cancer treatment, and supportive medical care.
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an accredited nursing program with one of the following:
