What will you do in this role:

• Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
• Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
• Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment
• Other Certifications maybe required during employment
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
• Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State
• No previous experience needed
• Some travel maybe needed for training

This TL position will lead pulmonary and sleep medicine in addition to supporting the interventional pulmonary team 

The RN Team Leader acts as a formal and informal leader on the unit. The TL participates and collaborates with the management staff to assist with the daily planning and coordination of the assigned work unit. The TL delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The Team Leader provides leadership through activities that include development of staff, teaching, precepting, committee work, quality improvements and participation in evidence based practice and research. The TL is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The TL supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The TL will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. 

Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.

One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is preferred.

200 Medical-Surgical is a 30-bed unit that cares for patients admitted from the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Critical Care Units, and physician offices. The team serves a broad age range, from young adults to patients over 100 — offering diverse and valuable clinical experiences.

The unit specializes in medical, surgical, and gynecologic/oncology care. Common procedures include hysterectomies, mastectomies, bowel resections, and various oncology surgeries. Chemotherapy is occasionally administered, and patients mayrequiretelemetry monitoring or oxygen support.
