Automation Engineer
Job Description
Automation Engineer (DeltaV → 800xA) | Long-Term Project | Onsite – NC
We’re partnering with a specialized automation consulting group supporting a large-scale system modernization initiative — and they’re looking to bring on Automation Engineers with DeltaV experience who are ready to expand into new platforms.
This is not a maintenance role — this is true system transformation work.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting a major control system upgrade (DeltaV → 800xA environment)
- Converting and building control strategies for process systems (including fermentation)
- Assisting with system configuration, commissioning, and startup activities
- Collaborating with senior engineers to deliver modernized, scalable automation systems
Why This Role Stands Out
- Opportunity to expand beyond DeltaV into 800xA (highly marketable skillset)
- Work on a long-term, high-impact project (~2 years)
- Be part of a small, high-caliber engineering team (quality over volume)
- Gain exposure to system upgrades vs. day-to-day support work
- Strong technical leadership onsite to support growth
What We’re Looking For
- ~3+ years of DeltaV (Emerson) experience
- Background in automation / controls engineering
- Experience with:
- Batch processes / configuration
- Commissioning / startup
- Process control systems
- Exposure to regulated or industrial environments (pharma, biotech, chemical, etc.)
- Ability to work onsite in North Carolina
Nice to Have
- Any exposure to 800xA (ABB)
- Experience with system upgrades or migrations
- Familiarity with fermentation or process manufacturing environments
Logistics
- Location: Onsite in North Carolina
- Duration: ~24-month engagement
- Schedule: 40 hours/week
- Start: Rolling (initial hire ASAP, additional hires over coming months)
Who This Is Perfect For
This is ideal for an engineer who:
- Wants to break out of a single-system career path
- Is looking for long-term project stability
- Enjoys hands-on engineering + learning new platforms
- Wants to be part of meaningful system upgrades — not just support tickets
