ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Monitor water conditions and patrons to ensure safety.

• Respond swiftly to emergencies and alert staff as needed.
• Demonstrate a functional knowledge of and enforce all facility rules and regulations with professionalism and consistency.
• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance.

• Ensure all assigned equipment is properly maintained.

• Conduct facility safety checks throughout shift.
• Foster teamwork and positive interactions with patrons and staff.
• Follow all instructions, processes, and procedures accurately and efficiently.
• Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Participate in in-service training and maintain strong lifeguarding skills.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Optionally provide swim lessons and assist in staff training.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Successfully complete required swim test.
• Successfully pass a required background check.

Lifeguard 2:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must have previous lifeguard experience. Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Successfully complete required swim test.
• Successfully pass a required background check.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in lifeguarding and facility operations during training and on duty.

Lifeguard 3:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have at least 2 years of lifeguarding experience.
• Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Successfully complete required swim test.
• Successfully pass a required background check.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in lifeguarding and facility operations during training and on duty.
• Assist the Recreation Coordinator with facility operations, programming, and other responsibilities.
• Assist in training and development of team members as appropriate.
• May instruct swim lessons.

Lifeguard 4:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have at least 2 years of lifeguarding experience.
• Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.

• Successfully complete required swim test.
• Successfully pass a required background check.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in lifeguarding and facility operations during training and on duty.

• Ability to assist coordinator in solving a variety of problems as needed.

• Provide high-level of support to the Recreation Coordinator.
• Assist in training and development of team members as appropriate.
• May operate as a site lead.

• Duties may include the following:
• Swim lessons, In-services, Programs/events coordination.

Applicants must currently have the following, or successfully pass training provided by the City of Renton prior to employment:

• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• Successfully complete required swim test.
• Successfully pass a required background check.

About the Role:

As a Private Event Lifeguard, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests during private pool events in Los Angeles, CA. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor the swimming area, enforce safety rules, and respond promptly to any emergencies. You will work closely with event organizers to understand each event's specific needs and ensure a safe environment for all attendees. Additionally, you will be responsible for educating guests about water safety and proper pool etiquette. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to a positive and secure experience for everyone involved in the event.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (Red Cross, ELLIS, STARGuard).1 year of experience as a lifeguard.Must be at least 18 years of age.Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate lifeguarding skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working as a lifeguard at private events or similar settings.Knowledge of water safety regulations and best practices.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor the swimming area to ensure the safety of all guests.Enforce pool rules and regulations to prevent accidents.Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including performing first aid and CPR when necessary.Communicate with event organizers to understand the specific needs and expectations for each event.Educate guests on water safety practices and proper pool etiquette.

Maintains constant vigil over patrons and effectively rescues persons in danger. Qualifications and Skills

Education and ExperienceCombination of education and experience that provides the employee with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Previous lifeguard experience preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of safe aquatic practices, ability and alertness to recognize potentially hazardous situations and/or practices. Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in an aquatics program. Skill in First Aid and CPR/AED.Ability to enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program. Ability to communicate effectively orally to a variety of audiences, to give and understand oral instructions.
Good customer service skills, and the ability to interact with groups of all ages. Ability to get along well with coworkers, the public, staff and volunteers and to maintain effective working relationships. Ability to perform in emergency situations and in a challenging environment. Routine decision making regarding assessment of immediate situations, available options, and selection of appropriate methods and procedures. Deviations from standard procedures generally require approval of the supervisor. Special Requirements

Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Individuals who do not hold the above certifications must be able to successfully complete the required city-sponsored paid training program to obtain certifications.

Work schedules may be irregular and change frequently based on operating needs. Frequent schedule changes that include early morning, late evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts may be required.

Experience/Education: A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The employee must have the knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of water safety, rescue methods, lifesaving techniques, and first aid as applied to accidents in the water and surrounding pool areas.
• Techniques and methods of swimming instruction for all age groups.
• The incumbent must be at least fifteen (15) years of age to be a Lifeguard in accordance with the American Red Cross certification programs.
• Anyone under the age of eighteen (18) and still in High School must have a valid work permit.
