Position Summary: As a Penske Maintenance Supervisor you will use your excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills to engage your diesel technicians, maintain good morale among your team, and keep your customers happy.

• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance
  • Must have a skilled working knowledge of all maintenance crafts and trades with a high degree of skill and knowledge in the performance of at least one craft or trade.
  • Must be physically able to perform vigorous, strenuous work, with lifting up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day.
  • Must have valid Class C California driver’s license, current automobile liability insurance and ability to drive company vehicles.


General Description of Duties

The position performs the duties of maintaining all buildings, structures, and production equipment in top condition and working order, while actively training others when time permits. This position requires a skilled working knowledge of all maintenance crafts and trades with a high degree of skill and knowledge in the performance of at least one craft or trade (i.e. welding, electrical, PLC’s). The position requires administrative knowledge of the CAMS maintenance program and ability to order materials and supplies. Must exhibit leadership skills. All tasks are performed in accordance with GMP and safety guidelines and procedures. Responsible for contributing to the efficient and profitable operation of the plant. This individual must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with clients, customers, co-workers and supervisors, while achieving performance standards.


Essential Job Functions

  • Plans and performs maintenance work from start to finish with minimal-to-no help from supervisor.
  • Must be physically able to use various carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and welding mechanical tools. Must use equipment such as saws, hammers, drills, paint brushes, rollers or sprayers, and power tools such as grinders, sanders, and electric pipe threaders.
  • Responsible for all production equipment and support equipment. Equipment should be maintained in good working order, with repairs made as necessary.
  • Submits orders for supplies, materials and equipment as required for maintenance functions.
  • Leads in all technical applications, such as installations of new equipment.
  • Responsible for entering work orders for necessary repairs.
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance of production areas. Ensures all production areas and grounds are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Responsible for completing daily time sheets.
  • May be called to come into work while off-duty, as emergencies arise.
  • Helps enforce departmental policies and procedures. Leads by example in these areas.

Perform overhauls and installations of new equipment.

Rebuild motors and perform facility maintenance.

Repair and maintain Switches, photo eyes, sensors, proximity switches, drives, gearboxes, motors, bearings, rollers, belts, and conveyors Follow Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures rigorously.

Qualifications: 3+ years of proven experience in industrial equipment maintenance, preferably in food, beverage, or packaging environments.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple tasks in high-pressure, fast-paced settings.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Familiarity with safety protocols and maintenance documentation.

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 10:00pm- 6:30am

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Each item should account for 10% or more)

Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment (i.e., tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).

Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.

Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM list and parts accountability.

Handle road service calls; perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed.

Keep track of assigned repairs by logging in and out of the Shop Fax system.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.

Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.

Backup to other maintenance shop personnel.

Willingness and capacity to assume increased responsibility and certifications.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Internal: VP of Operations, Transportation Manager, various other USF personnel

External: Vendors, Parts and equipment delivery personnel

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Related Experience/Requirements:
A valid Class-A CDL license and DOT certification preferred.
Must have (5) years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy duty commercial diesel mechanic or reefer mechanic or a combination of both; or (3) years verifiable hands-on experience with either Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification or both.
Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Prior experience in administering appropriate PM program.
Must furnish own personal hand tools.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations as pertaining to the shop and fleet.
Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
Excellent communication skills; able to communicate with co-workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills.
Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
Computer and software experience.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
Must be able to work overtime when needed
