Primary Responsibilities:

Provide medical physics quality assurance, testing, and consulting services as needed to fulfill its mission. These testing activities will involve MRI, CT, X-ray, mammography, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound. In addition, some nuclear medicine consulting and licensing activities will be performed.
Provide ACR MRI, CT, NM/PET, US, and mammography accreditation services and data review to customers within the state of Arkansas and surrounding states.
Occasionally speak at seminars, trade shows, and represent WEST PHYSICS’ vendor booth at such events to bring in new business and enhance the company’s reputation. This will involve delivering lectures, presentations, etc., for these events.
Perform dosimetry review, worker and patient dose estimates, fetal dose estimates, and conduct dose investigations and ALARA reviews.
Perform shielding designs and conduct shielding verification/integrity testing.
Assist medical physicists and senior medical physicists with diagnostic radiology equipment testing.
Other related duties as needed.

Prerequisites:

M.S. degree (M.S.) in Medical Physics or a physics-related discipline. (Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, etc.)
Solid foundation in radiation physics, radiation biology, electronics, and other areas relevant to equipment quality assurance testing.
At least 3 years of documented experience in the diagnostic imaging/clinical environment.
Must meet current ACR requirements for the performance of accreditation-related testing of MRI and CT units.
MQSA approved (preferred).
High-level interpersonal skills, the ability to make presentations to large groups, and the capability to work independently and exhibit intellectual flexibility.
Flexibility to travel up to one week a month until trained.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple projects at a given time.
Candidate must be willing and open to be trained on new opportunities and activities to enhance the technical skill set.

Applicant must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
Familiarity with Apple computers (i.e., macOS) and applications is a plus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs PM procedures on multiple types of general and specialized clinical equipment.

Performs PM procedures using manufacturer’s recommendations, standards or code requirements, as well as industry acceptable processes as guidelines.

Performs services on specialized equipment in one or more of the following categories: anesthesia machines, sterilizers, ventilators, ultrasound, laser, laboratory analyzers, etc.

Performs corrective maintenance procedures including diagnosing problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or other sciences and documents results of activities performed to comply with all regulatory and standard requirements.

Notifies equipment users and Clinical Engineering Management of repair status and delays as necessary.

Interacts with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems in scheduling and completing PM procedures while minimizing interference to hospital departments.

Determines need for replacement parts and supplies, selects the most cost effective source, and submits properly completed parts request using established policies and guidelines.

Completes corrective and planned maintenance work order documentation per policy.

Summary

Provides diagnostic quality radiologic imaging under the direction of a Physician while maintaining proper radiation protection standards. Follows the guidelines for radiation safety while imaging gently. Delivers a high level of patient care and customer service to promote patient satisfaction. Works in a hospital facility that offers full hospital services. Provides direct patient care to high acuity patients encompassing emergency, inpatient and outpatient classes supporting up to and including trauma and ICU.

Job Duties

Produces images of diagnostic quality, processes, and prepares images for interpretation by the radiologist.
Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Uses appropriate exposure factors, collimation, and proper distance with documentation. Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her own safety and the safety of others.
Ensures appropriate exam is ordered for number of images provided and attached to the correct patient folder.
Confirms levels of supplies and equipment to meet requirements for patient care and/or specific departments.
Documents LMP, fluoro time, radiologist, number of images, appropriate history and all other required documentation.
Ensures coordination of daily work duties within the team and coordinates timing of exams.
Ensures images have crossed into PACS before study is complete.
Confirms physician orders are complete and includes signature, ordered study, reason for test (diagnosis/CPT codes) and obtains missing information prior to treatment.
Reports equipment malfunction and the need for adjustment and/or repairs.
Assists in the education and training of new employees, students, and other ancillary personnel.
Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation of the immediate work area and maintains orderliness.
