The College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of temporary instructors to assist in teaching graduate courses online for the Master of Molecular Science and Software Engineering (MSSE) Program, should an opening arise. Candidates will support the primary instructors assigned to the courses.

General Duties

Duties include assisting or leading lectures, leading or assisting in labs or discussions, and other activities customarily related to instructional assignments (i.e., grading assignments, submitting/maintaining student records, responding to student questions, tutoring students, holding regular office hours, course material preparation, attending relevant meetings, orientations, etc.).

The MSSE Program seeks candidates who can support the success of all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy.

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Factory Software

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer with expertise in server-side and backend development to join our small, high-performing team. Requirements

• Proven experience implementing large-scale projects in languages like Go, Java, C++, Rust, or similar.
• Strong understanding of backend development fundamentals, including SQL databases, networking, and security.

The Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) Department in Tucson, AZ is a multi-discipline organization responsible for designing, building and integrating state of the art testing environments (flight simulators for missiles), as the last step before flight test.  On our team, you will work with weapon system designers to understand requirements, design solutions, integrate, and deploy the systems to help support tactical software development, testing, and delivery for missiles to the warfighter.

This position is within the Effectors Center of the HWIL organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ

What You Will Do

• Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to develop software to control Hardware-In-the-Loop (HWIL) facilities (flight simulators for missiles).

• Software design, coding and integration in a real-time environment.

• Travel up to 20% to support development and/or delivery of our test environment equipment.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a  minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.

• Experience with software development in C++, using the object-oriented features.

• Active and transferrable final Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain program access after start.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience contributing to the design, development and/or integration of the test equipment and/or hardware (software that controls complicated hardware systems)

• Strong organization, coordination, planning, teaming skills, as well as written and oral communication skills.

• Experience with Software Agile Process.

• Experience developing software using a Linux operating systems.

• Some comprehension of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) terminology analysis purposes.

  The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Summary/Objective:

A Software Engineer will develop, maintain, and support new or existing software products while applying the best practices of software development. Responsibilities include the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team to deliver quality solutions across all phases of the software lifecycle and across all layers of a software solution.

Job Accountability/Responsibilities

Quality:

• Meet or exceed test coverage goals set for the project through creation of unit and functional tests.

• Minimize the number of production escapes.

• Support user acceptance testing.

• Support or conduct system testing, performance testing, volume testing, and stress testing.

Usability/User Experience:

• Collaborate with business and/or UX teams to create appropriate application user interfaces.

• Assist with mock-ups and user interface design.

• Incorporate UX components into the application.

• Provide feedback to the UX team.

Product Reliability & Response:

• Ensure the system can meet or exceed defined SLA's.

• When primary on-call, respond to pages within 15 minutes and resolve or escalate issues as necessary.

• Exposure to AWS technologies preferred (especially serverless technologies such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, etc.).
