You will create and manage your individual book of business through constant communication with carriers and customers.
What you’ll be doing.
- Lead Generation: Creatively self-generate leads and qualify prospects
- Cold Call: Execute 80+ cold calls per day to build relationships with prospects and existing customers
- Negotiate: Stay up to date on industry trends to provide and negotiate freight costs to customers and carriers
- Account Management: Manage freight movement and problem solve in real time by utilizing our proprietary TMS software
- High Sense of Urgency: Proactively communicate when resolving issues and provide updates to customers and carriers

Role Details:
- Location: Midwest distribution hub — modern industrial facility exceeding 200,000 sq. ft.
- Schedule: Multi-shift operation (day and evening shifts)
- Direct Reports: Supervise a team of approximately 15–20 warehouse and production personnel

Key Responsibilities:
As Warehouse Manager, you will oversee the full scope of metals distribution center activities, including:
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of warehouse associates, material handlers, and shipping/receiving personnel across multiple shifts
- Manage inbound and outbound logistics for a broad range of steel products including coil, flat-rolled sheet, plate, structural, bar, and wire products
- Drive throughput, on-time shipping performance, and order accuracy while maintaining a culture of safety and accountability
- Coordinate closely with sales, operations, and procurement teams to align inventory levels with customer demand and delivery timelines
- Oversee steel processing, slitting, cutting, and value-added services as applicable to daily production requirements
- Conduct daily floor walks, toolbox talks, and shift briefings to communicate priorities, resolve bottlenecks, and enforce standard operating procedures
- Maintain accurate inventory records utilizing warehouse management system (WMS) and ERP platforms; perform cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and facility-specific safety standards including proper handling of heavy coils, plate, and bar stock via overhead cranes and forklifts
- Implement and sustain 5S, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency
- Evaluate staffing requirements, participate in hiring and onboarding, and manage performance reviews and disciplinary actions
- Serve as a key point of escalation for customer service issues related to order status, short shipments, and product quality concerns
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–7 years of supervisory or management experience within a steel service center, metals distribution facility, or heavy industrial warehouse environment
- Demonstrated experience overseeing teams of 5–20 or more employees in a high-volume distribution or manufacturing setting
- Hands-on knowledge of steel product categories including hot-rolled and cold-rolled coil, carbon and alloy plate, structural shapes, wire rod, and bar
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations including receiving, put-away, pick/pack, shipping, cycle counting, and inventory reconciliation
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly in a dynamic distribution environment
- Experience with overhead crane operations, forklift certification, and safe handling of heavy metal products
- Proficiency with WMS, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred; commitment to maintaining a zero-incident safety culture is non-negotiable
Preferred Background:
Candidates with direct experience at a full-line metals service center or national steel distributor are strongly preferred. Familiarity with the operational workflows, product mix, and customer service standards common to major industry distributors will allow you to integrate quickly and contribute immediately. Experience managing unionized workforces, participating in lean or Six Sigma improvement projects, or overseeing third-party logistics (3PL) partnerships is a plus.

Position Summary
The Supply Manager is responsible for converting the agreed demand plan into a feasible, cost-effective, and executable supply, inventory, and logistics plan. This role owns supply planning, inventory positioning, and logistics execution, with primary accountability for 3rd-party logistics (3PL) strategy, performance management, and continuous improvement. In the early stages of S&OP implementation, the role ensures constraint visibility, disciplined execution, and reliable customer service.
Position Responsibilities
Supply Planning & Inventory Management
- Develop and maintain supply plans aligned to the approved demand forecast and S&OP targets
- Translate demand into production, procurement, and replenishment requirements
- Balance service, inventory, and capacity while managing constraints and trade-offs
- Own inventory strategies, including safety stock, lot sizing, and deployment across the network
- Lead and develop the Inventory Associate; set priorities and performance expectations
Logistics & Distribution Planning
- Develop distribution and transportation plans that support supply and inventory strategies
- Ensure inventory positioning and logistics lead times align with service commitments
- Identify logistics constraints and develop mitigation scenarios
- Monitor execution against plan and recommend corrective actions
3rd-Party Logistics (3PL) Strategy & Management
- Own 3PL strategy, including network design inputs, partner selection, and contract scope
- Lead 3PL onboarding, governance, and performance management
- Establish and manage SLAs, KPIs, and scorecards across warehousing and transportation providers
- Conduct regular business reviews to drive service, cost, and productivity improvements
- Manage escalations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
S&OP & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide supply, inventory, and logistics inputs to Supply Review and Executive S&OP
- Present constraints, scenarios, risks, and trade-offs for leadership decision-making
- Ensure supply and logistics assumptions are accurate and consistently applied
- Translate Executive S&OP decisions into executable supply and logistics plans
Systems, Data & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain planning and logistics master data (lead times, capacities, inventory parameters)
- Support implementation and stabilization of planning and logistics systems
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across supply planning, inventory, and logistics
- Support network changes, new product launches, and customer onboarding
- cycles.

Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Statistics, Analytics, or related field. Preferred
- 7–12 years of experience in demand planning, forecasting, or supply chain analytics.
- Demonstrated experience managing 3PL partners and logistics contracts
- Strong understanding of manufacturing, procurement, and distribution processes
- Experience operating within or implementing an S&OP / IBP process
- Strong leadership, analytical, and vendor-management skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a developing environment
- Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish and/or Chinese a plus.
