The Care Partner is a support care provider who functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Job Summary:

The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Director of Sleep Services or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technologist and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff. The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist is credentialed in sleep technology.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Sleep Study Preparation and Set-up
- Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
- Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Review the patients history and verify the medical order.
- Follow sleep center protocols related to the sleep study.
- When patient arrives, verify identification, collect documents and obtain consent for the study.
- Explain the procedure and orient the patient for either in center or out of center sleep testing.
- Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desentization. Sleep Study Procedures
- Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.
- Follow lights out procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).
- Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
- Follow lights on procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.).
- Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards.
- Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Job Summary

The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Patient & Visitor Interactions /Customer Service/Hourly Rounding: In this role, the PCT will interact with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility. Performs purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.

Patient Safe Handling/Ambulation/Repositioning: In this role, the PCT will learn patient safe handling skills to allow the PCT to assist in the ambulation of patents and to be able to assist the nursing staff in the transferring, lifting and /or repositioning of patient utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.

Basic Nursing Care- ADLs: In this role, the PCT will provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN. Follows policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety.

Admission/Discharge/Transfers: In this role, the PCT will assist with room set up, welcoming of new patients/ room orientation, discharging and/or transfer of patients. Provides patient/family orientation to room and hospital according to hospital practice. Transports/escorts patient to area of destination ensuring safety; regularly updates patients.

Procedures and Treatments: In this role, the PCT will accurately complete and document patient care activities including: ADL, vital signs, weights, (actual weight on admission or as ordered), intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy and procedure. Effectively explain and perform procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse). Notifies appropriate personnel of response and questions. Collects non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens. Accurately performs point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse. Promotes and maintains skin integrity by reporting patient problems as they occur, to the appropriate team member.

Care Companion/Sitter/Observer: In this role, the PCT may be asked by the RN or LPN to remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.

Department Specific Tasks: In this role, the PCT will support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment etc. Performs unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth. These indirect patient care activities are identified in each nursing department.

Position description

The Advanced BioImaging Center (ABC) in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for two Project Scientists at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank. The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank to commensurate with prior experience. The position will report to Professor Gokul Upadhyayula, with Professor Eric Betzig serving as an additional academic mentor. The project scientist will make significant and creative contributions in the area of machine learning & data analytics.

The Advanced BioImaging Center (ABC) at UC Berkeley aspires to be a world-leading multidisciplinary imaging center that drives important biological discoveries through critical new advances in all aspects of imaging technology and that drives the dissemination of that technology through a multi-pronged education strategy to scientists around the world. ABC was intentionally designed to maximize scientific productivity and impact by adopting groundbreaking imaging technologies such as the next-generation adaptive optical multifunctional microscope, incorporating the high-level technical expertise of instrumentation scientists, applied mathematicians, and computational scientists, and building worldwide collaborations aimed at tackling the challenges posed by terabyte and petabyte-scale imaging data processing, visualization, and dissemination. Members of the ABC have access to leading - edge imaging and computing hardware, as well as exposure to collaborators from a range of diverse disciplines, including in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, and more.

The Assistant/Associate/Full Project Scientists will be an integral part of a visionary scientific team driving cutting-edge biological discoveries through immediate applications of critical advances in imaging technologies. These positions will work with a dedicated team to develop data analytics software in terabyte- to petabyte-scale imaging projects. The incumbents will develop and refine machine learning applications and manage projects and provide regular progress reports to PIs and collaborators.

Successful candidates will be an integral part of the expert team working together with computational scientists and biologists in experimental design to tackle complex biological questions in a quantitative manner. The work will primarily be conducted at the facility in Barker Hall. Occasional travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

*Make significant and creative contributions to development of new imaging and data processing tools for datasets generated on multicellular tissues, organoids, transparent embryos.

*Design, build, and maintain new software packages for efficient data processing.

*Advise on applications of these tools for biological imaging; collaborate with Postdocs and graduate students on specific projects to test, learn and implement for general and specific use cases.

*General organization and management of software documentation.

*Bring cross disciplinary expertise to solve problems at the intersection between life science, computer vision, and state-of-the-art AI methods.

*Work with petabyte-scale light sheet datasets that are typically 4D or 5D (x,y,z,t,chemistry). Identify and implement scalable solutions to scientific questions on large-scale data sets, especially using performant algorithms.

*Develop machine learning approaches, computer vision tools to help pre-process dataset and annotations to generate groundtruth benchmarks.

*Contribute to dissemination via open source code repositories, demonstrations, publications, presentation.

Job Summary:

The Care Partner is a support care provider who functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Care Partner primary focus will be to promote a positive patient experience by partnering with the nurse, physician, healthcare team and other healthcare providers to provide excellence in patient experience; and assist with daily living activities and comfort measures. The Care Partner assists other health care providers with safe, age appropriate and culturally aware care by performing basic patient care functions; i.e. ADL's, ambulation, and vital signs. The Care Partner may require approved advanced technical training skills may be required i.e. phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral suctioning, and discontinuing Foley catheters. Performing additional advanced skills may be required to support clinical care and will fluctuate depending on the needs of the unit. Performing clerical functions such as: retrieval of data, maintaining unit supplies, and transporting supplies/patient medications will be required. The Care Partner must be able to work in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking and effective communication with the Registered Nurse and ancillary team. Must be able to perform under stressful conditions with a compassionate, respectful and service mindset. Must be able to take direction from a variety of care providers. Must be organized with excellent communication skills.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Excellence in Patient Experience by partnering with health care team, patient and family. Patient Centered Care-Clinical Practice: Supports an environment of healing or wellness for patients which includes: addressing patient needs, following the plan of care as assigned or instructed by a licensed professional; and while carrying out role responsibilities, engages the patient and family in compliance with the treatment plan. Effectively contributes to the plan of care or treatment based on assigned tasks and patient/family input in collaboration with the healthcare team with a focus on the care continuum. Consistently implements all safety interventions to minimize risk in achievement of intended outcomes. Protects rights and dignity of patient. Maintains confidentiality adhering to HIPAA regulations and recommended privacy procedures. Participates in hourly patient rounding. Answers telephone and call lights promptly, professionally and notifies appropriate individual of need for follow-up. Resolves patient concerns or escalates to the charge nurse if unable to resolve patient concerns. Proactively offers assistance and comfort measures to patients and families. Present self in positive and professional manner and show sensitivity to concerns and needs of others. Patient Centered Care Provides patient care under the direction of the RN. Provides patient care needs (ex. hygiene, nutrition, elimination, physical comfort measures) and additional advanced skills based on unit specific requirements (ex. phlebotomy, EKG, removal of foley catheters and removal of IVs). Answers telephone and call lights promptly, professionally and notifies appropriate individual of need for follow-up. Assist RN and other members of health care team with care delivery as assigned. Assist in direct patient admission. Monitors data entry for key patient safety information. Participates in charge reconciliation. Performs audits as requested. Teamwork Supports initiatives of the Health care team. Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives. Supports professional nursing practice through shared leadership, evidenced-based practice and ethical accountability. Transports unit supplies, patient care supplies, medications and equipment as assigned. Practices accountability. Communication Uses effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, family and visitors, i.e. AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explain, Thank you). Uses safety communication techniques, i.e. Ask a question, Request a change, Voice a concern, Use chain of command when necessary (ARRC). Communicates completion of assignment/duties to RN or Charge Nurse. Documents completion of patient care in EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Communicates patient care concerns/problems/emergencies to the RN or Charge Nurse in a timely manner. Real time communication is required. Uses positive and respectful communication with all members of healthcare team, patients and families. Maintains equipment i.e. blood pressure machines, glucometers, and other patient care equipment. When devices are not properly working sequester, tag, and report to appropriate personnel. Communicates with patient and updates white boards with information. Knowledgeable, maintains, and acts as unit expert regarding patient care documentation tools related to their role in the event of downtime. Safety and Infection Control Provides a safe environment for the provision of patient care. Consistent use of proper hand hygiene. Keeps patient rooms and unit areas clean and free of clutter. Follows appropriate PPE/Infection control policies in between patient care and equipment usage. Reinforces the importance of universal precautions with patient and patients family. Utilizes proper body mechanics, patient safe handling devices (i.e. lifts, transfer equipment, etc.), and additional assistive devices (i.e. walkers, gait belts). Performs environment of care rounds. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
