Labor and Delivery is seeking a skilled and compassionate full time Surgical Technologist to join our dedicated maternity team.

The schedule is 36 hours per week with day/night rotating schedule, including weekends.

This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality care for mothers and newborns during labor, delivery and recovery.

The L&D Surg Tech is responsible for preparing surgical suites, maintaining sterile field, assisting with C-sections and other obstetrical procedures, and ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned and handled.

Our Labor & Delivery Unit is a Level III referral center, which provides care to both normal and high-risk laboring and ante partum patients.

Approximately 4,200 babies are born each year at UNC Medical Center.

Several thousand patients are also seen in the triage area.

In addition, our providers and staff perform numerous high-risk procedures such as vaginal and cerclage placements, amniocentesis and versions as well as various fetal procedures, including IUTs, fetal shunt placements and exit procedures.

The unit consists of 15 labor and delivery rooms, 5 triage rooms, a 2-bed recovery room, and 3 operating rooms.

Anesthesia coverage is provided 24/7.

Summary: The Surgical Technologist II works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Performs surgical scrub duties across multiple services.

Serves as a resource in at least one service line.

Responsibilities: Performs all the duties and responsibilities of Level I plus the following: 1.Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring that proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards of process.

2.Provides proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.

3.Follows aseptic technique.

Proactively identifies contamination and/or breaks in aseptic technique and implements corrective actions.

4.Performs surgical counts.

Follows policies and procedures for incorrect counts and reports discrepancies appropriately.

5.Establishes and maintains sterile field and assures team maintains sterile environment independently.

Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used.

6.Assists in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.

7.Actively participates in the planning and set up of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner to provide optimal accessibility during the procedure.

8.Assists the surgeon, demonstrating an understanding of the patient’s anatomy and abnormalities which affect the surgical procedure.

9.Demonstrates appropriate and correct case preparation.

Assists in picking cases and planning of instrument needs.

Corrects deficiencies at the case level.

10.Recognizes and modifies scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information to develop modifications to standard approaches to care and communicates with the surgical team.

Responds to surgical emergencies and follows hospitalwide emergency management plans.

11.Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.

12.Serves as role model for new hires, on the job trainees, and other identified teammates.

Serves as a mentor for Surgical Tech peers and participates in teaching, guiding, and evaluating the performance of peers during orientation and annual review process.

13.Identifies and reports defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Assists with restocking operating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.

Essential Functions:

This Program Cost Control Analyst position will, under minimal supervision, interface with the program managers, functional management, and cost account managers (CAMs) to provide financial and administrative support and analysis to meet program requirements.

The Program Cost Control Analyst will have experience with Earned Value Management and performance measurement baseline concepts and be able to apply them to multiple contracts for control accounts within an engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT).  This position will be responsible for leading and training other analysts if full level 1 Earned Value contracts.

Earned Value Management (EVM) tasks include:

  • Establishing Work Breakdown Structure for execution of budgeted cost of work scheduled

  • Assessing and maintaining of objective performance criteria – developing, maintaining, analyzing and justification of estimates to complete

  • Supporting internal and external reporting requirements for variance analysis and budgeting baseline

  • Maintaining a solid and accurate cost and schedule integration with business partners and program teams

  • Analyzing funding, cost risk analysis/assessment and visibility reports - Preparing government cost performance reports and preparation and/or review of Performance measurement variance analysis

Additional responsibilities will include:

Perform analysis & prepare reports in order to ensure that contracts are within negotiated and agreed-upon parameters and government cost control guidelines. Perform basic installation and maintenance of components used in campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment including chilled water, refrigeration, air compressor, gas heater, air drier, fume hoods, and pumps.
