The REQUIRED Town of Lexington application form must be received in the Town's Human
Resource Department. This position will remain open until filled.
Scope of Work
This position maintains and operates various types of heavy motorized equipment used in the maintenance,
construction and repair of Town infrastructure and facilities, and undertakes a variety of maintenance
activities pertaining to public works and/or utilities operations and services.

Received Lead Man, Crew Chief and/or Superintendent
Exercised May assign work in absence of Lead Man, Crew Chief or Foreman
Essential Job Functions
* Operates a variety of motorized maintenance and construction equipment as assigned (e.g., front-end
loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, snowplows, tractors, etc.) to assist with construction, repair and/or
maintenance projects in the Highway, Water/Sewer, or Parks divisions of the Department.
* Operates mechanical and other non-grade-determining equipment (e.g. air compressors, power saws,
paint machine, concrete mixer, leaf blower, lawn mower, weed wacker, leaf vacuum, welder, jack
hammers, etc.) related to assigned maintenance, construction and repair projects.
* Participates in snow and ice removal and treatment operations, sometimes after normal work hours;
participates in other inclement weather operations and services; assists in coordination and
monitoring of contractual snow removal crews.
* Maintains and cares for all equipment, machinery and vehicles used during work assignments;
regularly performs preventative maintenance tasks; reports required maintenance and repair of
equipment and vehicles to Road Machinery personnel.
* Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community
relations.
* Follows safe work practices.

Requirements of Work
Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) plus additional technical or specialized training, including or
supplemented by at least 3 years of public works or utilities construction, maintenance and repair experience,
some equipment operations experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:

* The operational, maintenance and repair activities required for assigned area.
* Applicable rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and safety standards that govern

Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license; ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake
Endorsement and a Massachusetts Class 2A Hoisting License.

DEFINITION of HEAVY EQUIPMENT
Heavy equipment is distinguished from light equipment based on weight/capacity of the equipment and/or nature
of the work performed. The following equipment is classed as heavy equipment: Class 8 Dump Truck, Loader
Backhoe, Excavator & Front End Loader (greater than 3 CY).

Sit and Reach β This tests the officerβs flexibility in the lower back, legs and shoulders.
The officer shall sit on the floor in front of the measuring device.
They shall bend at the waist pushing a block down the device.
The stretch must be a static stretch and the officerβs calves must remain in contact with the floor.
The test is measured to the quarter inch.
Bench Press β This test measures the officerβs upper body strength for one repetition.
The test is conducted on a single fulcrum bench for safety purposes.
The officer is to press the weight straight up until they have locked out their arms.
The test is measured in 5-pound increments.
Officers are weighed at the time of the test (in PT gear) and the appropriate percentage of the officerβs weight is used to determine the percentage to be bench pressed.
1.5 Mile Run β This test measures the cardio-respiratory fitness of the officer.
It is conducted on a flat surface track / pre-measured (flat) course/treadmill.
The test is measured in minutes and seconds.
After initial PEB qualifications, must re-qualify on an annual basis.
SGOs failing to meet the minimum standards during annual requalification be allowed thirty (30) calendar days to successfully meet minimum standards.
Security Guards failing to meet requirements after 30 calendar days will be placed on Weapons Restriction.
Physical Efficiency Battery: The PEB is a fitness test consisting of three differing components to measure the fitness level of the officer.
The PEB is categorized by age and gender and with a graduated (percentile) scale that ranks officerβs performance from the highest (99th percentile) to the lowest (1st percentile).
As an example, a male between 35 to 39 years old is in the 99th percentile if they have 25.00 inches of flexibility, can push 172.14% of their body weight and can run 1.5 miles in 9:15.
The same person would be in the 1st percentile with scores of 10 inches of flexibility, 51.50% of body weight pushed and a 1.5 mile run in 22:00.

- Keep the Park Picture-Perfect β Mow, trim, mulch, and water to ensure all outdoor spaces look fresh, clean, and welcoming for guests.
- Seasonal Transformations β Help bring the park to life with seasonal displays, from colorful spring blooms to festive fall.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma / GED required.
- Vocational / technical training in Horticulture/ Landscaping preferred.
- 1-3 years of prior experience.
- Knowledge of plant identification and professional horticultural practices.
- Knowledge and experience to program irrigation controllers and proper irrigation practices.
- Must be able to read blueprints.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Available weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.

As one of our seasonal Landscaping Associates, you will be responsible for assisting with the care of flowers, shrubs, trees and turf which involves planting, fertilizing, watering, pruning, and leaf blowing.Β This role offers great experience, awesome incentives, and a schedule that is right for you.
- Install/remove flowering and foliage plants, mulch, and trees.
- Provide general care for trees, shrubs, flowering and foliage plants.
- Transplant, water and fertilize flowers
- Weed and dis-bud flower beds.
- Operate power equipment such as blowers, mowers, trimmers, and clippers.
- Operate hand tools such as pruners, lopping shears, shovels, and rakes.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.

Morning Services Attendant shift time starts at 5:00am. This position may include:
- Washes down park midways with high pressure hoseΒ
- Operates power washers and leaf blowers to remove stains and leaves from midwaysΒ
- Attend to each guest parking lot ensuring all trash is picked up and all liners are emptyΒ
- Sweeps midways of trash and debris. Disposes of trash in the proper containers.Β
- Works appropriately and safely with a variety of chemicals to clean up a variety of messes and other bodily fluids.Β
- Maintains Park back areas to ensure a safe and clean working environment for all park ambassadorsΒ
- Other duties may be assigned.Β
