Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Area Weed Science Advisor at the Assistant rank serving Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties.
The Weed Science Advisor will implement an innovative multi-county extension education and applied research program to address weed management challenges in the three-county region, including alternatives to glyphosate, the effectiveness of organic weed control methods, herbicide resistance, air and water quality issues related to weed control practices, and the control of invasive weed species.
UCCE Advisors are responsible for conducting applied research and extending knowledge. Research activities are applied and mission-oriented, focused on addressing challenges in our communities. Extension activities are the educational methods that advisors use to share research results directly with clientele and communities, increasing knowledge and understanding of science-based research that promotes the adoption of practices and technologies to solve local problems. Extension activities may include individual farm consultations, presentations, or organizing educational workshops, short courses, and field demonstrations. Information may also be disseminated through various channels, such as radio, webinars, fact sheets, policy briefs, news blogs, social media, and other outlets. Publications are expected in various formats, including newsletters, popular press articles, curricula, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed journals.
Successful research and extension programs result in new information that improves knowledge or understanding, and eventual adoption of new skills or practices, changed attitudes or policies, and improved environmental, economic, or social conditions. UCCE Advisors are evaluated through an academic advancement system based on four criteria: 1) extending knowledge, 2) applied research and creative activity, 3) professional competence and activity, and 4) university and public service.
Location Headquarters: This position will be based at the UC Cooperative Extension Office in Sonoma County, located at 133 Aviation Blvd., Santa Rosa, California 95403.
Position Details
Weeds are a critical challenge to the regional productivity of agriculture, pasture, and rangelands, and are responsible for significant production losses, management costs, and labor requirements each year. Growers, ranchers, dairy producers, pest control advisors, and the UC Cooperative Extension network need an Area Weed Science Advisor to provide locally relevant expertise to address production efficiency, crop safety, livestock forage, and environmental issues related to sustainable weed management in the region.
This position will take an integrated approach to weed management, encompassing organic and conventional approaches, while serving a broad range of clientele across multiple cropping systems, pasture, and rangeland. In addition to working across a spectrum of weed management practices, the position will develop expertise and deliver information on related topics, including weed identification, invasive plant management, cover crops, and livestock-crop integration, in collaboration with relevant colleagues. The position will also address aquatic weed identification and management in agricultural water sources, such as irrigation ponds and reservoirs.
The advisor will extend science-based information to clientele who grow grapes, olives, apples, and other orchard crops, a variety of specialty crops, and graze livestock on organic and conventional pastures and rangelands. Key clientele groups include agricultural producers, dairy producers, livestock producers, rangeland managers, Pest Control Advisors (PCAs), Agricultural Commissioner office staff, public resource management agency staff (e.g., Natural Resources Conservation Service, Resource Conservation Districts, Cal Trans, regional parks), and nonprofit conservation organizations. Collaboration with these groups will identify issues and opportunities to extend information through seminars, workshops, field days, internet resources, and publications, both producer-oriented and peer-reviewed.
The advisor will collaborate with other Cooperative Extension Advisors, Specialists, and clientele to conduct applied research that facilitates the broad implementation of integrated weed management programs across diverse agricultural and grazed landscapes. The advisor's research program will utilize a variety of cultural and mechanical controls, along with emerging technologies, to reduce reliance on herbicides as the sole control tool while stewarding the natural resources that are integral to the sustained health of agricultural and rangeland production systems.
In addition to collaborating with UC colleagues, the advisor will work with external networks, including, but not limited to, the Sonoma, Napa, and Marin Weed Management Areas, the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, the Napa County Regional Parks and Open Space District, the Napa Land Trust, the Marin Agricultural Land Trust, and private industry.
Counties of Responsibility. This position will serve Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties.
Reporting Relationship: In this appointment, you will report directly to the UC Cooperative Extension Area Director for Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties. This is not a remote position; the advisor must be available to work onsite at the headquarters location and travel to and be present in the other assigned counties. Specific expectations for maintaining office hours and fieldwork in the geographic area covered by this position will be outlined by the supervisor upon hire.

The Position
- The Physician Advisor will provide clinical leadership and expertise in utilization management, level-of-care(LOC) determinations, and clinical documentation across the organization.
- This physician leader will oversee approximately 10+ FTEs including two direct physician reports, and will work closely with medical staff, case management, and revenue cycle teams to ensure appropriate utilization of healthcare resources while maintaining high standards of patient care and regulatory compliance. Compensation Details
- The base salary range for this position is $280,000 to $300,000 annually. In addition, a leader may be eligible for other benefits, including but not limited to health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and bonuses. The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The base salary range listed above is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

The Senior Policy Advisor will report to the Deputy Secretary for Health and partner closely with the Assistant Secretaries for Health to oversee the Governor’s Health agenda, including all components of operations and policy management within the Health portfolio. Job Description:
- Partners with the Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretaries to conduct oversight of State agencies within the designated program area (Health). Serves as a cornerstone of the Health portfolio, partnering with the agency, Division of Budget, Executive Chamber Counsel, and other members of the Health portfolio to help set and implement the Governor’s Health agenda.
- Policy making: Owns discrete policy areas agreed upon in collaboration with the Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretaries for Health, including:
- Identifying areas of greatest need/opportunity through research and analysis (literature reviews, stakeholder interviews, review of current legislation, etc.)
- Developing specific proposals to address areas of need (e.g., reviewing best practices from other States, partnering with experts within State agencies) for consideration during annual State of the State and budget-making processes
- Ensuring policy initiatives proposed by State agencies and other Executive Chamber teams remain coordinated and consistent with overall Health agenda
- Developing perspective and advising Governor on whether to sign/veto legislative bills passed during annual legislative session
- Implementation and agency oversight: Partners closely with relevant State agencies to ensure effective implementation of Governor’s agenda, including:
- Monitoring agency progress in implementing key priorities, including intervening as necessary to ensure adequate direction, resources, and support to achieve objectives
- Leading implementation for select priority initiatives
- Managing certain aspects of day-to-day agency oversight (e.g., reviewing and approving budget requests, reports for external release)
- Ensuring Deputy Secretary and other Executive Chamber leadership are kept abreast of agency operations
- Providing input, as needed, on day-to-day agency operations (e.g., review of agency-proposed regulations)
- Communications and stakeholder management: Takes steps to gather input on and build support for Governor’s agenda, including:
- Meeting with key advocates and stakeholders within and outside of NYS to gather input on and build support for agenda
- Partnering with agency and Executive Chamber communications teams to provide input on overall communications strategy, including press, events, etc.
- In support of the above activities, is expected to have exemplary skills and demonstrated experience in the following:
- Conducting policy research (including literature reviews, expert and stakeholder interviews, data analysis) and generating innovative and effective recommendations
- Preparing clear and concise briefing materials, and providing verbal briefings

Potential Areas of Focus:
- The Senior Policy Advisor will partner with the Assistant Secretaries for Health to support day-to-day management of a subcomponent of the Health portfolio. The Senior Policy Advisor will be assigned discrete policy areas and operational topics to oversee, and is expected to serve as the ‘first line of defense’ responsible for these areas. The Senior Policy Advisor will be expected to partner closely with the Assistant Secretaries for Health in these areas, working to keep the Deputy Secretary apprised of day-to-day activities and providing the Deputy Secretary with recommendations on all critical decisions needed
- The Senior Policy Advisor’s areas of focus are flexible depending on candidate qualifications, but may include the healthcare delivery system, healthcare innovation, public healthcare insurance and coverage, long-term care, and/or public health.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of full-time, professional experience with a focus on public administration, public policy, health policy, or related topics. A Master’s degree in a related field or Juris Doctor may substitute for one year of this experience. A strong interest and knowledge of health policy is highly desirable.

Standard Work: Physician Advisor
- Acts as a liaison between the CDI professionals, Health Information Management, and the hospital's medical staff to facilitate accurate and complete documentation for coding and abstracting of clinical data, capture of severity, acuity and risk of mortality, HCC/risk adjustment in addition to Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignment.
- Perform concurrent and retrospective reviews of selected health records as it pertains to CDI and coding validation, and participate in the development of clinically appropriate and compliant provider queries to further clarify documentation.
- Educates individual hospital staff physicians about International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding guidelines and clinical terminology to improve their understanding of severity, acuity, risk of mortality, HCC/risk adjustment and DRG assignments on their individual patient records.

Behavioral Health Clinical Services
The Behavioral Health Clinical Service line includes a number of Behavioral Health clinics across the hospital system. Your application may be considered for any of the below programs. We will work with you to find the best fit.
Provide, oversee, and/or administer a wide range of psychosocial evaluation/assessment, diagnostic, counseling therapy, crisis intervention, and/or case management services in a high-intensity clinical environment which requires a high degree of independent decision-making. Provide clinical training to provisional counselors/social workers, students, and/or interns engaged in related therapeutic/patient care activities, as appropriate to the individual position. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
ASAP: Outpatient substance use treatment center. Services include individual/group therapy and walk-in counseling. Clinic works collaboratively with psychiatry, medication management, medication for opiate use disorders, primary care and case management. In addition, we offer an Intensive Outpatient Program for a higher level of care.
Behavior Response Team: Completes assessments and provides brief therapeutic support in the Emergency Departments and on the inpatient medical floors, and teleservices and in the community for the Mobile Response Team. This team works with all ages. This program currently operates 7 days a week with evening hours M-F this role is a 4/10s schedule with one weekend day.
Crisis Triage Center: Intended to assist adults in our community with stabilization and to engage in support services so they can effectively transition to outpatient care and to prevent inpatient hospitalizations. Therapists are expected to complete intake assessments, safety planning, individual sessions, and to facilitate one group a day. This role is a 4-10s schedule with one weekend day.
Integrated Behavioral Health: This is an integrated care service delivery model to address problems identified during primary or specialty care visits that are negatively affecting the patient's medical concerns or psychological functioning. They will also provide consultation to colleagues about the role of mental health and illness in how to understand a patient's functioning in the medical environment.
Metropolitan Detention Center: MDC PSU Counselors, take crisis calls throughout the jail. Assess for all inmates needing mental health services upon arrival to the jail, provide clearances on housing units, assess for Suicidal Ideation. In addition, these clinicians provide individual therapy, run meetings with security weekly, and may do integrated care for those receiving methadone/Suboxone.
Additional $6.00/hr. Safety Incentive Increase Cell phone and/or smart devices are not allowed on persons for this position at MDC, unless there is a documented medical condition.

Multi-Systematic Therapy: Is an intensive community-based family service that provides family therapy in the home and incorporates all systems that affect the family including, but not exclusive to, school, legal and family's identified formal and non-formal support system. This clinic serves patients 12-17 years old to promote pro-social behaviors and reduce the risk of out of home placement.
Outpatient Psychotherapy Clinic: This outpatient clinic serves the adult and senior populations. We provide short-term evidence-based therapy through scheduled sessions and same-day walk-in appointments in an exciting and fast paced environment. We are looking for clinicians who thrive in a supportive, team-based environment and are passionate about providing accessible, high-quality care.
Pediatric and Adult Inpatient Units: Acute level of care in an inpatient unit for either children or adults due to danger to self, danger to others or due to grave disability. This position works closely and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in a milieu setting.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Complete assessment of each client Initiate and sustain each individual’s motivation to participate in treatment.
Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client.
Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups.
In Summary: In conjunction with supervisor and treatment team, you will provide chemical dependency counseling services to patients and their families/collaterals through assessment and design, implementation, and revision of treatment plan.
Minimum Education & License / Credential Requirements High school diploma or GED and twenty-four (24) credit hours of college education or accredited training program in substance abuse counseling and/or other human services area.
Higher education given preference.
OR Certificate in Addictions (CADC) or clinical licensure in IL as LPC or LSW Any new professional staff who do not have an IAODAPCA CADC or above certification when hired or first moved into this position must: Obtain an IAODAPCA CADC or above certification (LSW or LPC) within two years after the date of employment; and Other Hiring Requirements Ability to promote positive behavior and manage resistant behavior.
Physical ability to safely and effectively manage aggressive behavior.

They will role model, counselors, and teach breastfeeding techniques, providing support on a one-to-one basis, as well as in class/group settings in the WIC clinic.
Responsibilities: Teach classes on the advantages and management of normal breastfeeding experiences.
Provide information and promote breastfeeding among peers.
Address specific concerns of expectant mothers.
Counsel pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers on a one-to-one basis in the WIC clinic, over the telephone, and conduct follow-up as needed.
Identify and make appropriate referrals for breastfeeding experiences that are not the norm.
Provide encouragement and support to women during a normal breastfeeding experience.
Maintain proper client records.
Demonstrates competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of clients served by the department.
Breastfeeding Peer Counselors shall make immediate referrals according to the Local agencies' established referral system when they encounter breastfeeding problems outside of their scope of practice, breastfeeding problems that are not resolved within 24 hours of the Peer Counselor’s intervention, or problems in an area other than breastfeeding.
Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values of Santa Rosa Health Care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ability to work outside of regular clinic hours and outside of the WIC Clinic, as needed.
Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Must have successfully breastfed or expressed breastmilk for at least one baby.
Must be or have been a WIC Participant.
Must possess a valid Class C TX driver’s license.
Work Schedule: 4 Days
