Position Overview
The Immigration Attorney will handle removal defense matters, including appearances before the Immigration Court, motion and appellate practice, and complex legal analysis. This role may be a strong fit for experienced removal defense attorneys, those impacted by layoffs, or former Immigration Judges or government attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients in Removal Proceedings before the Immigration Court
Handle Master Calendar and Individual (Merits) Hearings
Draft and litigate motions to reopen, reconsider, terminate, and other post-order relief
Prepare and file appeals and briefs before the BIA
Conduct legal research and draft persuasive legal memoranda
Analyze FOIA responses and develop litigation strategies
Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings
Appear at USCIS interviews when required
Collaborate with paralegals and support staff
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active license and good standing with a U.S. state bar (California preferred)
Minimum 5 years of immigration law experience required
Minimum 3 years of removal defense experience required
Experience handling Master Calendar and Individual Hearings
Strong motion and appellate writing skills
Prepare/review applications for relief with USCIS
Spanish fluency (spoken and written) required to serve Spanish-speaking clientele
Ability to independently manage litigation matters
