This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with sophisticated clients in the dynamic and rapidly evolving data center and energy sectors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial leases and related agreements, including transfer consents, lender subordination agreements, work letters, and SNDAs. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of development issues, particularly in areas such as power, water, fiber-optic infrastructure, zoning, entitlements, and permit processes. Prior experience with service level agreements, data center construction, development, and financing is preferred, but not required. Excellent writing and analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team are required. This position can be located in any Akerman office; however, Dallas office location is preferred. Prior data center and energy experience, specifically with data center development and financing, is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate will have experience drafting purchase and sale agreements, with preference given to those who have worked on agreements related to power infrastructure contingencies, including powered land sales and purchases. This position requires abilities in analyzing various development issues including power, water, fiberoptic infrastructure, zoning, entitlements, permits, and land use and experience in closing real estate transactions. Akerman LLP seeks an Associate with 4 to 7 years of civil tax controversy experience (preferably at a law firm). The ideal candidate will have experience representing taxpayers before, and interacting with, the Internal Revenue Service (e.g., Examination, Independent Office of Appeals, Collections, Office of Chief Counsel) and state revenue/tax agencies; conducting efficient legal research and analysis; reviewing and preparing draft legal documents related to tax controversy matters, including penalty abatement requests, protest letters, petitions, motions and other pleadings, and responses to audit information document requests and collection notices; managing multiple projects and deadlines while working under the supervision of attorneys across offices; interacting daily with clients and managing client relationships; and working directly and effectively with large transactional practices. Candidates should be able to break down complex topics and identify practical solutions, deliver timely and succinct work product, and work comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management skills, and strong technical abilities are required. A LL.M. in Taxation and experience before the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Courts, and/or the Court of Federal Claims are pluses. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, and can be located in any Akerman office, with preference given to candidates who would work in our Atlanta, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York or West Palm Beach Office offices. The Miami office of Akerman LLP seeks a Real Estate Associate with 1 to 3 years of experience in land use, zoning, local government and environmental law, to join an active land use practice, working on major development projects throughout South Florida. Candidates should have a strong background and experience in legal research and writing, and a deep understanding of State and local government structure in Florida. The position would work under senior associates and partners to research land use issues, prepare legal memoranda and briefs, prepare covenants and other legal documents, handle select public hearings, and assist on applications for development approvals. The position will require an individual with excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to solve problems independently. Annual base salary: $195,000 - $250,000

Akerman LLP seeks a Conflicts Counsel to assist the firm's General Counsel's Office with conflict of interest and risk management matters. The Conflicts Counsel is responsible for daily review, analysis and resolution of conflicts and other issues related to firm acceptance of new clients and new matters, as well as interface with the firm's General Counsel and attorneys regarding approval of new clients and matters. Responsibilities include the analysis of conflict of interest reports for all new firm representations to identify potential conflict problems, resolution of conflict of interest issues (including drafting necessary waivers and other documents) related to new clients and new matters, review of client outside counsel guidelines and assisting with assessment of firm's ability to comply. The Conflicts Counsel will handle additional assignments from the firm's General Counsel's office and firm administration, as needed.
The position requires a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and bar membership, as well as 3+ years of practice experience as a lawyer in a mid to large-sized law firm. Qualified candidates must possess basic knowledge of conflict-of-interest principles under professional responsibility rules, and have excellent analytical, organizational and written and oral communication skills. Experience in the area of conflict of interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred. Candidates must have availability to handle urgent and confidential matters and situations, including nights and weekends, as needed. This position can be resident in any of the firm's office locations. Hybrid and remote work arrangements are available. This position will work solely with the General Counsel's Office on firm internal matters.
