Attorney w/ Exceptional Writing Skills | Charlotte-Based Boutique Firm

Charlotte, NC (NoDa) | Full-Time | In-Person

About Gardner Skelton

At Gardner Skelton, we're not your typical law firm—and we're proud of that. Based in the vibrant and eclectic NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte, we're a Chambers-ranked, boutique firm that blends elite legal counsel with genuine approachability. From Fortune 500 giants to local startups, healthcare innovators to impactful nonprofits, our clients trust us because we're smart, thoughtful, and relentlessly practical.

We handle employment law, business litigation, corporate guidance, tax law, healthcare law, appellate law, and mediation. But more than just lawyers, we're partners who deeply care about our clients, our community, and each other. The way we work—and the way we treat people—is grounded in our five Core Values: Practice Excellence, Relationships Before Transactions, Creatively Practical, Own It, and Rise Together.

Our office buzzes with collaboration (and occasional barking—because yes, we're proudly dog-friendly), and we've worked hard to build an environment that is intentionally unique from just about any law firm you've ever seen.

For more information, please visit: the Role

Gardner Skelton is looking for an experienced attorney (minimum of five years in practice) who is, first and foremost, an exceptional legal writer and editor. This role is ideal for someone who loves building persuasive arguments on the page—digging into complex records, spotting the real issues, and translating them into clear, compelling motions and memoranda of law.

Just as important: we're looking for someone who loves the hunt—the attorney who can research and think like nobody's business. Our best written advocacy is built on great ideas and careful analysis, and we value the kind of curiosity and diligence that uncovers the valuable gems and angles others miss.

A core part of this position is improving the quality and consistency of the firm's written work product. You will review and refine drafts produced by associates, provide practical feedback and guidance, and help elevate writing standards across matters and practice areas.

You'll work closely with partners and associates across a range of matters, supporting high-stakes work through research, strategy, and world-class drafting. While many of our writing-heavy matters involve disputes and litigation, applicants do not need a traditional "litigation-only" background—what matters most is your ability to produce outstanding written work, sharpen the work of others, and exercise great judgment under real deadlines.

This is a great opportunity for an attorney who is motivated, team-oriented, and ready to grow within a firm that values both professional excellence and work-life balance.

What You'll Do

  • Draft and refine persuasive written advocacy, including motions and memoranda of law (trial-level and, where applicable, appellate).
  • Develop case themes, legal theories, and argument structure in partnership with the attorneys leading the matter.
  • Conduct deep legal research, looking for the key authorities, angles, and arguments that strengthen the team's position.
  • Review, edit, and strengthen written work produced by associates (motions, memoranda of law, discovery responses, client correspondence)—improving clarity, structure, tone, and persuasion.
  • Provide actionable feedback that helps attorneys improve their writing process over time (issue framing, organization, style, record support, and citations), and help ensure the team meets a consistent firm standard.
  • Distill dense facts and complicated records into crisp narratives that judges (and clients) can quickly understand.
  • Edit, cite-check, and ensure final work product is polished, consistent, and ready to file.
  • Collaborate with legal staff to support efficient workflows, filing readiness, and deadline management.
  • Participate in client communications and case status updates where your writing and analysis add value.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, depositions, or other proceedings as appropriate based on the needs of the matter and your experience/interests.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience with a demonstrated track record of exceptional legal writing (motions, dispositive work, memoranda of law, etc.).
  • A strong editorial eye—you can quickly diagnose what's missing, what's unclear, and what will make an argument land.
  • Curiosity and critical thinking that go beyond the surface—you're not just summarizing law, you're building arguments that win.
  • Strong legal research skills and the judgment to separate what's interesting from what's useful—including the persistence to dig until you find the authorities and angles that matter most.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through (deadlines, citations, record references—the whole package).
  • A collaborative mindset and comfort working closely with partners, associates, clients, and legal staff.
  • Sound judgment and professionalism in a client-facing role.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Bonus points if you have experience writing in the context of litigation, appeals, administrative proceedings, arbitration, or other high-stakes disputes.

Why You'll Love Working at Gardner Skelton

  • Culture & Community: We've cultivated a genuinely supportive environment where everyone's ideas matter. You'll work alongside passionate colleagues who truly enjoy their work—and each other.
  • Beautiful Workspace in NoDa: Our office is modern, comfortable, and located in Charlotte's dynamic NoDa neighborhood. Great coffee, amazing restaurants, and vibrant art are just steps away.
  • Dog-Friendly Office: Bring your furry best friend to work—we believe pets make the workday better.
  • Competitive Compensation & Benefits: We offer attractive salaries ($150,000–$200,000+ depending on experience) and a competitive benefits package.
  • Professional Growth & Development: Continuous learning is encouraged, with opportunities to sharpen your skills and expand your expertise.
  • Impact & Recognition: Your contributions won't go unnoticed here. We're committed to celebrating successes—and supporting each other through challenges.
  • Supportive Leadership: You'll receive strong mentorship and guidance from partners who are deeply invested in your growth and success.
  • No Book of Business Required: We don't expect you to bring or build your own book of business—we want you to focus on learning, contributing, and thriving.

Ready to join a team that's redefining what it means to practice law? We can't wait to hear from you.

How to Apply

Email your resume, a short cover letter, and at least 2 writing samples that showcase your legal writing skills (e.g., a brief, motion, or memo—redacted as needed) to Please include the Subject Line "Writing Attorney".

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants who do not submit a cover letter and writing samples will not be considered.

Travel-Based Sales Career | High-Performance Team

Full-Time | Commission Sales

Year 1: $45,000–$80,000 | Year 2+: $75,000–$120,000+

Most people spend their early career drifting between jobs.

Some decide to compress years of growth into a short period of time and build real income, real skills, and real confidence.

This opportunity is for the second type.

At ORCA Life, we are on a mission: protect families and build disciplined professionals.

This is not a cubicle job.

This is not a clock-in/clock-out career.

This is a performance-driven environment for individuals who want to develop elite communication skills, build real income, and surround themselves with driven people.

If you want comfort, this isn’t for you.

If you want growth, challenge, and the chance to become highly capable in a short period of time — keep reading.

Most people drift through their 20s.

The people who succeed here decide to become dangerous with a skill.

What Happens If You Commit To This For 3 Years

Most people spend their early career bouncing between jobs and never fully developing valuable skills.

The people who commit here for 2–3 years experience something very different.

They typically leave with:

• A high-income skillset in communication, persuasion, and negotiation

• Six-figure income potential through production and leadership

• Real confidence built through adversity and repetition

• A strong network of driven professionals

• Leadership opportunities and real-world business experience

This opportunity is not designed for everyone.

But for the right person, it can become a launchpad for the rest of their career.

What This Opportunity Is

We are a travel-based final expense sales team helping families secure life insurance coverage to protect their loved ones.

Every home we visit has requested information about coverage.

Your job is simple:

Show up.

Serve families well.

Develop your skill set.

Get paid accordingly.

Agents typically work Monday morning through Thursday evening, then return home for a three-day weekend each week.

Our teams travel across:

• Oklahoma

• Texas

• Kansas

• Arkansas

• Missouri

Agents stay in Airbnbs together with their team, sharpen their skills, and push each other to win.

This is a team-based, performance-driven environment.

What the Lifestyle Looks Like

Each Monday, a small team of agents travels to a new territory.

During the day, you’ll meet families who have requested information about life insurance and guide them through protecting their loved ones.

Evenings are spent regrouping with your team, sharpening your skills, and preparing for the next day.

It’s demanding.

It’s uncomfortable at times.

But it is one of the fastest ways to develop confidence, discipline, and high-income sales skills.

Day-to-Day Reality

A typical workday looks like:

• First door before noon

• Visiting families who requested coverage information

• Conducting in-home consultations

• Building trust quickly with new people

• Helping families secure coverage

• Finishing around 8 PM

You are not cold calling random people.

Every home you visit has either mailed in or submitted a request for information.

Training & Ramp-Up

We invest heavily in developing our agents.

New hires go through a hands-on two-week training program, including:

• Ride-alongs with top producers

• Learning the in-home sales process

• Mastering the script and presentation

• Real-world field experience immediately

Most new agents write their first policy their first solo day.

During training, agents receive:

• $400/week training pay

• Travel expenses covered during training

• Close mentorship from experienced producers

You are not thrown to the wolves here.

Our goal is to build professionals, not just hire bodies.

Leads & Compensation Structure

Our system allows new agents to start without heavy upfront costs, then scale income as they grow.

Earned Lead Program (Early Stage)

Free leads provided based on consistent production

• Starting commission: 50%

• Commission increases with production

Advanced Stage (Pay-for-Lead)

Once promoted:

Agents purchase their own leads

• Commission tiers increase (95%+)

• Significantly higher income potential

Commission payments typically arrive within days of issue depending on carrier.

Income Expectations

Average first-year agents: $45k–$80k

Year 2+ producers: $75k–$120k+

Top producers earn significantly more.

Income here is tied directly to:

Work ethic

• Coachability

• Consistency

• Activity level

The people who treat this like a job earn job-level income.

The people who treat this like a profession build real financial leverage.

Who Thrives Here

This opportunity is best suited for individuals who are:

• Competitive

• Coachable

• Financially driven

• Comfortable speaking with new people

• Willing to travel weekly

• Interested in personal growth

• Motivated to become a provider and leader

Who This Is NOT For

This role is not a fit if you:

• Want a predictable 9–5 office job

• Dislike travel

• Avoid uncomfortable situations

• Need constant supervision

• Struggle with discipline or consistency

• Are content with average results

You must be comfortable going from:

“Stranger at the door” → trusted advisor in the home quickly.

That skill is learned — but only by those willing to develop it.

Long-Term Value

Success here can lead to:

Higher commission tiers

• Six-figure income potential

• Leadership opportunities

• Team development

• Transferable high-level sales skills

• Entrepreneurial growth

Many agents eventually build teams of their own or move into leadership roles.

Application Process

We hire selectively and prioritize discipline, culture fit, and drive.

If you are looking for a place that will:

• Challenge you

• Develop you

• Reward performance

• Surround you with driven people

Are you a relentless communicator who thrives on the hunt? Do you get energized by making connections, qualifying opportunities, and knowing that your hustle is what fills the pipeline?

GG Homes is looking for a driven Sales Development Representative who's hungry to break into real estate acquisitions, loves being on the phone, and is ready to build serious income through performance. This is a role where your activity directly creates your opportunity—and your paycheck.

If you want a company that rewards your effort, invests in your growth, and makes winning feel like a celebration, let's talk.

Who We Are

GG Homes is a fast-growing real estate investment company and one of Southern California's leading cash buyers. We've built our success on delivering real solutions to homeowners while creating an environment where high performers can truly thrive.

Here's what makes us different: we believe in celebrating wins as much as we believe in working hard to achieve them. Whether it's team trips to Cabo after record months, Din Tai Fung lunches when we crush our goals, or sunset yacht dinners with the team, we make sure success feels rewarding—not just financially, but personally too.

The Role: Sales Development Representative (Lead Manager / Acquisitions Specialist)

This is a high-activity, phone-first role for communicators who are quick on their feet and relentless in their follow-through. As an SDR, you are the engine that powers GG Homes' acquisition pipeline. You'll be cold calling potential sellers, managing and qualifying inbound leads, and setting high-quality appointments for our Acquisitions Managers to close.

You won't be waiting for deals to come to you—you'll be creating them. Every call is a chance to build rapport, uncover motivation, and move a potential deal forward. The best SDRs treat their lead lists like a business, attack every dial with purpose, and take pride in the quality of the appointments they set.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Cold call property owners from targeted lead lists to generate seller interest and uncover motivated leads
  • Qualify inbound leads quickly and accurately, identifying the right sellers for our Acquisitions team
  • Set high-quality, confirmed appointments for Acquisitions Managers—quality matters as much as quantity
  • Build genuine rapport with sellers over the phone, earning trust and keeping conversations moving forward
  • Follow up consistently with leads who aren't ready yet, turning "not now" into "let's meet"
  • Manage your pipeline with precision in Salesforce, keeping every lead properly tracked and updated
  • Hit daily, weekly, and monthly activity and appointment-setting targets
  • Communicate clearly with Acquisitions Managers to ensure smooth handoffs and maximum close rates
  • Strategize with leadership to refine your approach, improve conversion rates, and stay ahead of the market

Who You Are

Your DNA

  • Natural communicator – you build trust fast, listen well, and know how to keep a conversation moving in the right direction
  • Relentless and resilient – you make 100 calls, bounce back from 99 rejections, and come back the next day ready to go again
  • Competitive and self-motivated – you track your own numbers and always try to beat yesterday's performance
  • Organized and disciplined – you follow up on every lead, keep your CRM clean, and never let a deal fall through the cracks
  • Hungry to grow – you want to learn the business, sharpen your skills, and eventually move into a closing role
  • Coachable – you take feedback seriously, implement it fast, and improve continuously

Your Experience

  • Background in phone-based sales, customer service, or lead generation—real estate, solar, insurance, financial services, home improvement, automotive, or similar industries preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to hit call volume and conversion targets in a high-activity environment
  • Experience handling objections and keeping prospects engaged even when they push back
  • Comfortable working with CRM tools—Salesforce experience is a plus
  • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills
  • No real estate experience required—if you're driven, coachable, and ready to work, we'll train you on everything else

Compensation

We offer the best of both worlds: a solid base draw for stability, plus uncapped commission so your hard work translates directly into significant income.

  • Base Salary Draw of $60,000 + Uncapped Commission Structure
  • Realistic First-Year OTE: $100,000–$150,000 (for consistent performers)
  • Top Performers Earn $400,000+ (we have team members doing it right now)
  • No commission ceiling—your earning potential is completely in your control

This is a real opportunity to build financial freedom and fast-track your career in real estate.

Benefits & Culture

We work hard, but we also make sure it's worth it. Here's what you get when you join GG Homes:

  • Flexible PTO – we trust you to manage your time and recharge when you need to
  • Full Health Benefits – Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k)
  • Sales Competitions & Incentives – trips to Cabo, luxury dinners, cash prizes, and recognition for your wins
  • Team Experiences – sunset yacht dinners, Padres games, escape rooms, deep sea fishing, sushi omakase, and more
  • Beautiful Office Space – newly renovated with catered lunches, cold brew on tap, and premium snacks
  • Homebuyers Program – we'll help you buy your own property
  • Real Estate License Sponsorship – we'll cover the cost if you don't have one
  • Ongoing Training & Development – learn from experienced closers and continuously sharpen your skills
  • Clear Path to Promotion – top SDRs are first in line when Acquisitions Manager seats open up
  • Supportive Team Environment – work with driven people who celebrate each other's wins and push each other to be better
