About You:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in DO-178C flight software development and avionics integration. In this role, you will design and implement safety-critical autonomous flight software, integrate it with avionics hardware platforms, and contribute to certification-ready development processes.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, integrate, and verify flight-critical software using C/C++ following DO-178C processes.
• Build application-level flight software and ensure robust integration with underlying avionics hardware interfaces
• Create, maintain and review software requirements, code and certification artifacts adhering to certification plans and standards
• Troubleshoot integration issues on test benches and aircraft
• Develop automated workflows for software integration and build processes.
• Collaborate with engineers from cross functional groups such as systems, safety, hardware, flight controls and test to ensure product and program level needs are met.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, or related field.
• 3-5 years of embedded or flight software development experience within a DO-178C environment.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Understanding of avionics protocols and architectures (ARINC 429, ARINC 653, CAN, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet).
• Experience designing and implementing software for real-time operating systems (RTOS), with strong knowledge of low level topics such as device driver development, interrupt handling, memory management, and performance estimation.
• Strong experience with requirements management, including authoring high-quality software requirements, maintaining traceability, and using tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
• Experience with hardware/software integration, debugging on target hardware, and use of analysis tools (logic analyzers, bus analyzers).
• Experience with Python scripting, tool automation and test automation
• Experience with CI/CD environments and automated code quality checks.

Nice To Have

• Background integrating software across diverse avionics platforms or multicore systems.

As a Flight Software Test V&V Engineer, you will develop the test cases to support the test verification processes ensuring that the aviation products we develop are safe to fly and help provide a high-fidelity training environment for our flight-test crews.

Responsibilities

As a Flight Software Test V&V Engineer on the Simulation and Test Systems team, you will be instrumental in testing and deploying autonomous aircraft software. The Simulation and Test Systems team architects, builds, and maintains the hardware and software infrastructure necessary to verify aircraft performance prior to flight testing. Your responsibilities include verifying flight software functionality across diverse integrated test environments, such as software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HITL), and on-aircraft testing. You will also author and execute test procedures for on-ground aircraft testing.

A key part of this role involves designing, building, and maintaining automated test scripts within our test ecosystem. These scripts will support functional testing and requirements-driven software tests necessary for FAA certification.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on position. You will coordinate with engineering teams throughout the company to develop test plans, execute tests, investigate issues, and drive problems to closure. You will also be responsible for the maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of test and simulation equipment.

Basic Success Criteria

• 3+ years professional experience testing software

• 3+ years professional experience Python and exposure to C++ build systems

• 3+ years of experience testing integrated hardware / software products or mission-critical systems

• Experience authoring problem reports, test reproducibility steps, and procedures for internal team collaboration

• Hands on experience using laboratory electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and/or logic analyzers

• Demonstrated experience with root cause investigations

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience

Preferred Criteria

• Experience working with robotics or other safety critical software

• Previous experience developing automated test cases through GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Travis CI, or other continuous integration infrastructure

• Demonstrated ability to author and exercise complex test procedures a hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test environments

• Excellent documentation and collaboration skills

• Experience with DO-178C formal software test requirements

The position will be located at our facility in Mountain View, California. Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

The estimated salary range for this position is $155,000 to $215,000/annual salary + cash and stock option awards + benefits. At Reliable Robotics, we strive to provide competitive and rewarding compensation based on experience and expertise, as well as market conditions, location, and pay equity.
