The Managing Editor applies the Lookout Local journalism model. The ideal candidate will demonstrate well-experienced news judgment, excellent story ideation and line editing skills and most of all be committed to creating a great seven-day-a-week news report.


At Lookout Local, our revival of local journalism starts by producing excellence every day, throughout the day, serving readers’ evolving needs with a wide range of meaningful and local/personal journalism, responsive to our diverse communities’ changing needs. The managing editor must be comfortable and enthusiastic about the wide range of content we will deliver, from investigative and accountability work, to best-in-class beat stories, breaking news and service journalism that answers readers’ questions.


As illustrated by a 2024 Pulitzer win, Lookout Local newsrooms focus on impactful stories and while being a primary news source, keeps our readers briefly updated on step-process governmental proceedings and other actions. We are high on explanatory, connect-the-dots reporting and pointed knowing writing. Whether in 500 or 2,500 words, we tell the readers what we know, well sourced and well told. We fit the formats to the content, using Q&As and Ask Lookouts, and other emerging formats – including video – in addition to narrative journalism.

We need a Managing Editor who is an experienced story editor who has led teams of journalists. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of the Eugene-Springfield area, Oregon and/or the Pacific Northwest.


Responsibilities:


Editorial Direction:

  • Working with the Executive Editor, the Managing Editor will help direct the daily newsroom, working with correspondents in planning, reporting, sourcing and first-line editing.
  • The managing editor will ensure we are producing high-quality, trustworthy, non-partisan stories and community information, working with Lookout colleagues on multiple evolving products to distribute that content.


Community Engagement:

  • Help lead Lookout’s overall community engagement work, working with both correspondents and the wider Lookout team.
  • Look for ways, in digital and in person, to gain reader insights and feedback.
  • Represent Lookout Eugene-Springfield at community events, strengthening its role as a trusted local institution.


Maintain and Strengthen Standards:

  • Ensure content meets the highest journalistic standards of fairness, accuracy, and clarity, delivered with trustworthiness and lack of partisanship.


Innovation and Growth:

  • Apply the full toolbox of modern digital creation and distribution tools, working closely with colleagues especially in audience analysis.


Qualifications:


You should have at least seven years of journalism experience, and at least three as a newsroom manager. The position is on-site, in our collaborative office in downtown Eugene.

  • The Product Designer, OTT will play a critical role in shaping how audiences experience live and on-demand content across the client and connected-TV platforms. This role focuses on designing intuitive, media-rich experiences optimized for the television screen — helping viewers navigate content, engage with live news, and access video seamlessly across Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung, and other major OTT surfaces.
  • You will partner closely with product, engineering, and editorial teams to translate content and business requirements into polished, platform-appropriate interfaces. This includes ownership of core OTT surfaces such as home screens, navigation, video players, content discovery, and live coverage experiences.
  • The ideal candidate combines strong product thinking with a deep understanding of 10-foot UI design, lean-back viewing behavior, and the constraints of building across multiple connected-TV platforms. This role requires a systems-level mindset to ensure consistency, reliability, and performance across a matrixed, multi-brand environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Design intuitive, platform-appropriate OTT experiences for the client across major connected-TV platforms including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and Samsung.
  • Own and evolve core OTT surfaces including home screens, navigation, video players, content discovery, and live and breaking news experiences.
  • Translate editorial priorities and content hierarchies into clear, visually compelling interfaces optimized for lean-back viewing and D-pad navigation.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering to define interaction patterns, platform constraints, and release requirements across multiple OTT environments.
  • Optimize information hierarchy and content density to support passive discovery as well as intentional, goal-driven navigation.
  • Collaborate with editorial teams to ensure live coverage, breaking news, and video-first content translates effectively to the television screen.
  • Contribute to and extend the design system with components tailored for OTT surfaces and connected-TV conventions.
  • Ensure consistency and usability across platforms while accommodating platform-specific guidelines and technical constraints.
  • Leverage user research, analytics, and platform best practices to continuously improve usability and engagement.


Experience:

  • 2–4+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, or interaction design, with demonstrated work on OTT, streaming, or connected-TV products.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with dual screen interaction, 10-foot UI design, lean-back viewing contexts, or media-rich platform experiences.
  • Proven ability to design within platform constraints where clarity, performance, and navigation simplicity are critical.
  • Deep understanding of information architecture, D-pad interaction patterns, and UX conventions specific to connected-TV environments.
  • Experience designing consumer-facing products across multiple platforms or screen contexts.
  • Familiarity with live video, streaming workflows, and their implications for UX and interface design.
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset, with experience contributing to scalable design systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions clearly across product and engineering partners.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and editorial teams in a fast-paced media environment.
  • Self-driven with strong prioritization and execution skills.


Desired:

  • Experience designing within a large, matrixed media organization or multi-brand digital ecosystem.
  • Background working in streaming media, digital news, or broadcast-adjacent digital products.
  • Experience designing for high-frequency or habitual use cases such as daily news consumption or live event viewing.
  • Exposure to personalization, content recommendation, or AI-assisted discovery in streaming products.
  • Understanding of cross-platform ecosystems including web, mobile, and connected devices.
  • Bachelor's degree in design, HCI, or a related field.

The Wellness Empowerment Center provides upstream, innovative, and relevant programs, services and initiatives to help students and employees thrive. The team creatively designs prevention and education efforts to promote, nurture, and enrich the Georgia Tech community of health, well-being, and caring. Services include health and well-being educational programs, events and workshops, nutrition counseling, and sexual violence prevention, education and response.



Job Summary

The Dietitian role will develop and implement nutrition programs and services for the Institute community. Provides one-on-one consultation services to students related to general nutrition, eating disorders, and body image. Develops, implements, and assesses nutrition, body image, and eating disorder programming including large events, presentation requests, and outreach initiatives. Involves providing medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education and advocacy for the campus community, patients, and student groups, participating in menu planning and in program marketing and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Provide nutrition counseling (primary and preventative interventions) and follow up care to students through self-referral or medical referral. Provide medical nutrition therapy as required based on treatment plan. Includes assessment, treatment, evaluation, and nutrition education. Must follow HIPAA and FERPA guidelines throughout the entire nutrition counseling process.

Job Duty 2 -
Must provide inclusive services to students that are focused on a health-at-every size approach, Intuitive Eating, and non-diet weight inclusive approaches.

Job Duty 3 -
Partner and consult with campus dining services to provide support with menu planning, promotional/orientation activities and outreach to students with nutrition concerns.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop and present health education and promotion programs, training, workshops, social media, and outreach initiatives on nutrition education and body positivity.

Job Duty 5 -
Collaborate with staff on departmental and interdisciplinary projects. Coordinate nutritional programming and related activities with various campus departments that will foster and create relationships with community partners that extend nutrition, body image, and eating disorder support services to students.

Job Duty 6 -
Serve as a member and provide direct support to the Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Support team.

Job Duty 7 -
May supervise graduate assistants, dietetic interns, and student employees in planning, implementing health programs, objectives, and goals.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned



Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition or equivalent and experience

Required Certifications, Licenses or Permits:
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) License, Licensed in the State of Georgia
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) (Preferred)
