Safety Manager — Data Center Construction (Owner’s Representative)

Position Overview

Intuitive Safety Solutions (ISS) is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support mission-critical data center construction projects in an Owner’s Representative capacity. This role provides project-level safety leadership during core and shell construction phases, working closely with General Contractors to ensure effective implementation and adherence to established safety management systems and client standards.

The successful candidate will operate as a trusted advisor and safety leader — combining deep technical safety knowledge with strong relationship-building skills and practical field execution. This position requires a professional who can influence without authority, navigate complex construction environments, and maintain a proactive risk-management approach.

This is a long-term assignment (estimated 12 months) with potential for extension.


Project Scope

  • Serve as the site-level Owner’s Representative supporting the construction management team.
  • Work alongside General Contractors across multiple sites and phases to ensure adherence to established safety standards and programs.
  • Conduct daily site observations, risk assessments, and field engagement within active construction zones.
  • Evaluate implementation and effectiveness of contractor safety management systems.
  • Perform site walks, reporting, safety reviews, and coordination meetings across project locations.
  • Support safety performance tracking using Procore reporting systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess construction activities to verify compliance with client safety expectations and applicable regulations.
  • Provide professional safety guidance while maintaining productive working relationships with GC leadership, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Review and provide feedback on JHAs/JSAs and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify hazards proactively and recommend practical, operations-friendly solutions.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
  • Deliver clear safety communication to craft teams, field supervision, and executive stakeholders.
  • Maintain professional documentation, reporting, and performance metrics.


Required Qualifications

  • Active safety certification such as CHST, OHST, CSP, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience supporting core and shell construction projects.
  • Experience working in an Owner’s Representative or client-facing oversight role strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated stability and progression in previous roles.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across multiple organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Strong computer proficiency (Word, Excel, reporting platforms such as Procore).
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline AND minimum three (3) years in construction safety leadership roles; OR
  • Five (5)+ years of relevant safety management experience in industrial, civil, mission-critical, or technology construction environments.


Work Schedule & Expectations

  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
  • Overtime is rare and only expected under exceptional circumstances.
  • Flexibility for occasional weekend or night work may be required based on project needs.
  • Preference for locally sourced candidates.


Tools & Requirements

  • PPE (vest, hard hat, safety glasses) provided onsite; consultants must provide safety footwear.
  • Candidate must supply a working laptop capable of professional reporting and communication.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).  This includes hardware and software safety related tasks. 

  • Experience with presentation skills to brief safety status to safety approval authority at technical reviews, safety review boards, and others as part of the safety approval process.

This position focuses mainly on providing a safe environment for guests and associates by routinely conducting building/ground inspections to assure regulatory compliance; responds to fires and other emergencies as needed; and investigates first aid incident reports as necessary.

  • Conducts investigations on necessary first aid incidents as requested by Park Management and the First Aid Supervisor.
  • Performs routine fire and safety inspections. Types of inspections include but are not limited to: Fire Extinguisher, Fire
  • Prevention - Building Safety, Spill Continguency and Countermeasures (SPCC), Hazardous Waste and Bulk Storage,
  • Personal protective equipment, etc.
  • Performs follow-up inspections for corrective action and reports continued safety issues to the responsible department and Safety Operations / Area Manager.
  • Responds to and assists with park emergencies, patient care, safety investigations, scene management, and to help provide guest and or associate assistance as necessary.
  • Partners with departments to assist with creating solutions to safety concerns
  • Assists with the regular maintenance of emergency equipment
  • Assists First Aid staff as needed.
  • Responds, operates and maintains emergency response vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Conducts or assists with safety training classes when needed. Examples of classes include but are not limited to:
  • Powered Industrial Lift Truck, Fire Drills / Fire Safety, Fire Extingusiher inspection and use, Respirator fit testing, etc.
  • Completes and maintains timely and accurate audit and inspection documentation in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Meets Cedar Fair's attendance requirements as outlined in Cedar Fair's attendance policies.
  • Adheres to Cedar Fair's Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee
  • Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 


Qualifications:
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional public relations skills
  • Ability to drive, or learn to drive, a vehicle with a manual transmission.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Possess a valid and current Driver's License
  • Possess a valid NC, SC, or NR EMT certification
  • Maintains a current and valid AHA CPR Healthcare Provider OR MEDIC/Mecklenburg County Focused CPR Certification.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or povincial law.
