Required Skills and Qualifications: Board certification or Eligibility in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Proven expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies and fetal interventions.
Proficiency in amniocentesis, CVS, and other fetal procedures.
Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and team collaboration abilities.
Nice to Have Skills: Experience with cervical cerclage procedures.
Familiarity with managing complex maternal co-morbidities such as pre-eclampsia, hypertension, and genetic disorders.
Experience working with ultrasound equipment, specifically GE 10 models.
Preferred Education and Experience: Medical degree (MD orDO) from an accredited institution.

Summary: Responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to expose complex diagnostic conditions, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations for a variety of ob/gyn scanning procedures (fetal echo, fetal anomalies, high risk obsetrics).
Responsibilities: 1.
Assists the Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician in performing invasive diagnostic procedures.
Provides support in the standardization and training of physician learners during invasive procedures and other diagnostic imaging examinations.

Consults with the patient and assesses for potential contraindicationsβsuch as medication use, insufficient preparation, or the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the procedure.
3.
Performs the ultrasound procedure under general or direct supervision, as defined by the procedure and/or physician.
Performs essential maternal-fetal ultrasound examinations, such as; detailed anatomical evaluation, complete fetal echocardiogram, growth assessment, fetal wellbeing (to include biophysical profiles, maternal/fetal Doppler, amniotic fluid assessments), needle procedure guidance, examinations of maternal pelvic anatomy (including transvaginal cervical assessment) and advanced diagnostic 3D/4D techniques.

Conducts comprehensive diagnostic sonograms and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist.

Assists the supervising physician with invasive procedures as needed.
Continuously evaluates sonographic findings throughout the examination to ensure a thorough and comprehensive study, providing the physician with complete and clinically relevant diagnostic information.
6.
Recognizes situations or abnormalities that require the direct observation of the real-time imaging by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist.
7.
Utilizes pulse-wave and color/power Doppler to obtain vascular and spectral Doppler waveforms for interpretation by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist 8.
Advises Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists and/or referring OB provider, if directed, of examination findings, including a preliminary report of findings observed during a diagnostic sonographic evaluation.

In this highly specialised role, youβll work closely with Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) physicians to provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging, detailed fetal assessments, and exceptional care to high-risk obstetric patients.
What We're Looking For:Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.Β Graduate of ARRT-approved Radiography or Sonography Program; or CAAHEP-recognized Sonography Program, required.
Experience: Minimum of one year of OB experience, preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration (required): RDMS, OB
Additional Skills/Requirements (required):
- Must have current BLS certification upon hire and maintain throughout employment as required by department
- Must maintain ARDMS certification
- Excellent communication skills required
- Working knowledge of various ultrasound devices
- Must have ability to independently obtain high quality images needed to assist MFM physician with diagnosis
- Perform high-level sterilization according to Clinical Compliance standards following each exam
- Ability to successfully complete departmental and organizational skills validation and competencies as required
Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred):
- Able to perform independently to obtain high quality images and advanced Doppler techniques
- Able to assist MFM physician with complex procedures
- Ability to put patient at ease during ultrasound(s) and procedure(s)
- Reconciles patient's medical and prenatal history, current medications, medication allergies etc.

What You'll Do:Clinical Imaging & Procedure Support
Independently perform detailed OB/GYN and high-risk ultrasounds using advanced Doppler and imaging techniques.
Support physicians with ultrasound guidance during complex maternal-fetal procedures including amniocentesis, CVS, and fetal interventions.
Critique and analyse images for quality and diagnostic value; repeat studies as necessary.
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately document patient prenatal history, current medications, and allergies.
Ensure appropriate consents are obtained prior to procedures.
Complete all EMR documentation and maintain required procedural logs.
Room & Equipment Preparation
Sterilise ultrasound probes per Novant Healthβs Clinical Compliance protocols.
Disinfect and reset rooms between patients, ensuring all linens and supplies are replenished.
Verify equipment readiness and perform quality control as needed.
Patient Interaction & Human Experience
Explain procedures and findings in clear, compassionate language; use teach-back techniques to confirm understanding.
Create an atmosphere that calms anxiety and earns patient trust, especially for those navigating high-risk pregnancies.
Keep patients informed of visit timing, delays, and follow-up steps.
Recognise and celebrate the uniqueness of each patient, modelling inclusion and empathy.
Team Collaboration & Professionalism
Communicate effectively with MFM physicians, nurses, and fellow sonographers.
Demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to assist across the team to meet departmental goals.
Participate actively in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage 8-10 patients daily in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Handle a mix of new patient evaluations and follow-up appointments, typically scheduling one patient per hour.
- Provide comprehensive care for typical Maternal Fetal Medicine cases including Chronic Hypertension, Preeclampsia/Eclampsia, Gestational Diabetes, and Thyroid Disorders in Pregnancy.
- Address complex cases such as Cardiac/Renal Disease in Pregnancy, Twins/Triplets, Congenital Anomalies, and Growth Restriction.
- Perform and interpret advanced prenatal diagnostics including Anatomy Scans, Biophysical Profiles (BPP), Growth Scans, and Amniocentesis.
