POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of clinic physicians. Responsible for diagnostic and therapeutic management of patients by completing medical histories, conducting physicals, establishing diagnosis through tests, and formulating treatment plans. Provides follow-up and health maintenance care of patients in accordance with protocols approved by a physician.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Successful Completion of an educational program for physician assistants or surgeon assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, or by that committee's predecessor or successor entities is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required. Must be currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Texas. Must maintain current AHA BLS or higher. Providers practicing in acute care environment must obtain AHA ACLS certification or advanced specialty equivalent as defined by the CMA Credentials Committee within 90 days of hire. Prescriptive authority is required. Valid DEA numbers must be obtained within 90-days of hire.

Compensation Range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590 - $121,530.

The Methodist Congenital Heart Institute and Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas seek an exceptional physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and a core member of the leadership team within the Methodist Congenital Heart Program.
This distinguished role is embedded within a nationally recognized congenital heart institute and a thriving adult cardiology practice, the Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio. It offers a rare opportunity to lead a comprehensive ACHD program that spans the full continuum of congenital heart care—from infancy through adulthood—within a multidisciplinary and patient-centered environment.
The Medical Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction, clinical excellence, and continued growth of the ACHD program. This includes advancing innovative care models, fostering research and education, and integrating ACHD services across pediatric and adult platforms.
As a leader within the international HCA Congenital Heart Collaborative—which includes Methodist San Antonio, Medical City Dallas, Rocky Mountain Children’s Hospital Denver, Sunrise Hospital Las Vegas, and Portland Hospital London, UK—the Director will have access to a robust network of shared expertise, collaborative research, and advanced resources. This consortium empowers the Director to influence ACHD practices regionally and contribute to a broader platform of excellence across the HCA system.
Key responsibilities include:
Driving clinical excellence in adult congenital heart disease, ensuring seamless transitions of care from pediatric to adult services and maintaining the highest standards of patient outcomes.
Leading recruitment efforts to attract top-tier ACHD specialists, advanced practice providers, and support staff to build a world-class multidisciplinary team.
Fostering programmatic growth through innovative service line development, strategic partnerships, and expansion of regional outreach to meet the growing needs of the ACHD population.
Championing academic and research initiatives, including collaboration with medical schools, participation in national and international congenital heart networks, and contributing to the advancement of ACHD knowledge and care.
Engaging in business development activities to enhance visibility, strengthen referral relationships, and position the Institute as a leader in adult congenital heart care.
Participating in the international HCA Congenital Heart Collaborative, contributing to global advancements in congenital heart disease across the lifespan.
