Maintenance Assistant

The maintenance assistant will perform all of the necessary janitorial and maintenance tasks inside the club house, offices, and locker rooms. The maintenance assistant is also responsible for the daily cleaning and maintaining of the tennis courts. This position also involves all outdoor maintenance of the grounds and surrounding area to the facility. Additional duties may be assigned as they develop. This is a hands-on, full-time working position. Tennis court maintenance is a priority.

Responsibilities include:

  • Daily communication with Maintenance team
  • All janitorial work in and around the facility (washing and/or mopping floors, stairs, sidewalks, walls, dusting, vacuuming rugs, cleaning glass surfaces, wood panels, sweeping, applying wax to the floor. Restack paper products, soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant and other supplies)
  • Ensure courts are maintained (cleaned, maintained) daily
  • Ensure equipment is operational, clean and safe to operate
  • Maintain a safe, clean and secure work environment
  • Abiding by Sportime policies and procedures
  • Change light bulbs and batteries in automatic dispensers
  • Collect and dispose of trash bags from receptacles
  • Collect and place for storage: tennis balls and all other equipment used on courts
  • Uphold safety standards by wearing protective gear when using cleaning supplies, identify and correct tripping and slipping hazards, bring faulty cleaning equipment issues to the attention of the Maintenance Director and the GM and ensure that all MSDS are up to date and easily accessible.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:

  • Valid NYS Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation to travel to several locations throughout the workday
  • Knowledge of maintaining hard and clay tennis courts
  • Basic Knowledge of Electrical and Plumbing
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, painting, construction and mechanical issues
  • Knowledge of basic principles for providing customer service
  • Ability to use electric tools, hand tools
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms and/or legs
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without \"fatiguing\"
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers/solutions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing so that others will understand

Work context/activities include:

  • Lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, twisting and reaching using entire body and a

  • Sit and to stand for long periods of time

The position requires the employee to work indoors and outdoors. Outdoor responsibilities include shoveling (in cold, damp snow and rain), raking, picking up trash, use of water, etc.

Compensation: $18.00 per hour

Schedule: Full-time with weekend availability

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dedicated and talented individual to serve as an Immigration Staff Attorney. MinKwon's Social and Legal Services Program provides direct services to over 2,500 low-income households annually. This position is housed in our Immigration Legal Services program and requires a J.D.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Conduct comprehensive immigration screenings, intakes, and case assessments.
  • Provide information about eligible immigration benefits, assist clients with gathering documents, and complete immigration applications & petitions.
  • Provide direct representation and legal advice to clients in cases including but not limited to naturalizations, green card renewals, adjustment of status, SIJS, VAWA, TPS, U and T visas, cancellation of removal, family based petitions, DACA renewals, and inadmissibility waivers.
  • Process immigration-related correspondence and manage routine client communications.
  • Maintain detailed and up-to-date notes in case management system, and in physical and electronic files.
  • Prepare and conduct community outreach and educational workshops.
  • Work with MinKwon's development staff on immigration grants deliverables and reporting.
  • General administrative and clerical duties.

MinKwon Center's Staff Attorney will provide free legal consultations and direct representation on immigration matters to primarily low-income Asian immigrant communities in New York City.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide legal counsel and direct representation to clients seeking assistance with affirmative applications, naturalization, and removal proceedings;
  • Work with MinKwon organizers to conduct outreach, trainings, and workshops for individuals and community partners on immigration issues;
  • Represent MinKwon during district stakeholder meetings with USCIS and in other immigration-related coalition meetings;
  • Supervise and oversee volunteers and interns;
  • Maintain detailed client records in case management system

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following:

  • Licensed to practice law in the United States (Preferably in NY due to representing children in family court proceedings)
  • Interest and experience in working with the Asian American community
  • Expertise and experience in immigration law
  • English and Chinese and/or Spanish language proficiency is required
  • Ability to manage a diverse and high caseload and deadlines efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in teams
  • Strong commitment to public service; non-profit experience preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum required qualifications for this position include the following:

  • Chinese and/or Spanish fluency is required.
  • J.D. required.
  • Ability to work well independently, in teams, and in collaboration with outside organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and with limited English proficient communities.

The ideal candidate will also have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience with immigration legal or social services.
  • Knowledge, interest, and commitment towards concepts and issues of social, political, and economic justice and positive social change in the U.S., especially in the context of Korean American, APIA, and/or immigrant communities.
  • Ability to be highly organized, meet deadlines, manage a high caseload, and take initiative on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with data entry and management.
