The 2100 Inpatient Unit at BJWCH consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. We are a short-stay unit that strives to provide our patients with an exceptional post-operative experience in order for them to discharge home safely.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics and other general post-surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally, the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

The 6th floor is the adult surgical unit with a 52 bed capacity. There are 16 semi-private rooms. The unit has cardiac telemetry monitoring capability for 12 beds. There is a treatment room available. A surgical waiting room is located on the west end of the unit. Any semi-private room can be made private for isolation purposes or to accommodate patient requests. A wide variety of adult and geriatric patients are cared for on the surgical unit. They specialize in general, vascular, thoracic, gynecological, and urological surgery. The unit includes patients with infections, wound care and those requiring isolation. an Enterostomal Therapist is available to assist in teaching new ostomy patients, marking pre-surgical ostomy patients as well as facilitating car of patients with draining wounds or managing skin problems.

Clinical Nurse Position

The Neuro Medicine floor offers a unique opportunity for clinical nurses, and especially graduate nurses, to improve and gain critical thinking skills, assessment skills, problem solving skills and time management skills. The unit provides care to a diverse population with a specialty in neuro-medicine and epilepsy monitoring unit. In the EMU we work with physicians to induce and monitor patients with seizures. Northwest HealthCare , six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.

The 6th floor is the adult surgical unit with a 52 bed capacity. There are 16 semi-private rooms. The unit has cardiac telemetry monitoring capability for 12 beds. There is a treatment room available. A surgical waiting room is located on the west end of the unit. Any semi-private room can be made private for isolation purposes or to accommodate patient requests. A wide variety of adult and geriatric patients are cared for on the surgical unit. They specialize in general, vascular, thoracic, gynecological, and urological surgery. The unit includes patients with infections, wound care and those requiring isolation. an Enterostomal Therapist is available to assist in teaching new ostomy patients, marking pre-surgical ostomy patients as well as facilitating car of patients with draining wounds or managing skin problems.
