Alibaba Cloud is seeking a proactive employment attorney with deep expertise in employment law to join our Legal & Compliance team. In this role, you will serve as a strategic partner to Alibaba Cloud and global HR and business leadership, advising on the full spectrum of domestic employment matters and cross-border employee equity issues, in North America, Latin America, and the Middle East. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-to-senior-level employment lawyer to apply employment law expertise within a dynamic multinational technology environment—and to develop specialized knowledge in employee equity dispute resolution.
This is a full time and in-office position based Sunnyvale.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal counsel on employment matters across federal and multi-state jurisdictions, including hiring practices, performance management, leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, state sick leave laws), wage and hour compliance (FLSA and state laws), employee classification, workplace investigations, terminations, reductions in force, and contingent workforce management, cover our offices in North America, Latin America, and the Middle East.
- Draft, review, and update employment agreements, separation/severance agreements, restrictive covenants, HR policies, and handbooks to ensure compliance with evolving federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage employment-related disputes, including agency charges, litigation, arbitration, and mediation—with particular focus on equity compensation disputes under RSU/option plans.
- Advise on employee equity matters with respective regional tax and securities law implications, and support equity grant administration and vesting events.
- Deliver practical training to HR and business leaders on high-risk topics such as harassment prevention, anti-discrimination compliance, manager best practices, and equity plan administration
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar (California, New York, or other major tech-market state preferred)
- 7+ years of post-JD experience practising employment law at a top-tier law firm and/or as in-house counsel at a multinational technology company. Multi-state employment law experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrated experience handling employment litigation, agency charges, or arbitration before the EEOC, state agencies, or in federal/state courts. Prior exposure to equity compensation disputes is a strong plus.
- Exceptional business judgement with the ability to translate complex legal risks into practical, actionable guidance for non-lawyers
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English is required; professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is essential to collaborate effectively internally and externally
- Self-starter mentality with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment while managing multiple priorities

The Role

Responsibilities
As a Flight Software Manager at Reliable Robotics, you'll lead and grow the team responsible for the safety critical flight software that makes the aircraft fly. You'll own the maturation of engineering processes to balance immediate engineering execution with formal DO-178C verification, supporting rapid integration and testing of GNC algorithms while building out the software architecture for certification.
You'll provide technical and architectural guidance on flight software components, from flight controls to redundancy management. Responsibilities
In your role as an internal tool developer, you will develop applications, infrastructure, and tools used by engineering to capture product requirements and interface definitions, model the product architecture and design, and reduce and analyze flight and lab test data. As a Senior Simulation Software Engineer, you will work to shape all aspects of our simulation software stack, including framework performance, flight dynamics modeling, hardware emulation, and simulation-based test infrastructure.
Responsibilities
In your role as Senior Simulation Software Engineer, you will lead projects to develop a robust, deterministic, and scalable software simulation framework to accelerate testing of safety-critical systems. You'll work closely with stakeholders, including flight software, guidance/navigation/control, and hardware test engineers to expand our simulation system. Your work will improve the simulation's core architecture, including performance, reproducibility, and flexibility. As a Senior Simulation Software Engineer, you will be part of the Simulation and Test Systems team. The Simulation and Test Systems team is responsible for building the infrastructure necessary to enable the development, test, and deployment of our autonomous aircraft software. You will work closely with the hardware-in-the-loop test environments, high-fidelity physics simulation stack, and cloud-based Monte-Carlo infrastructure to enable the millions of flight equivalent hours necessary to certify our aviation products. These systems provide fast and accurate feedback on the behavior of our system through a wide variety of flight plans, environmental conditions, and system faults.
Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
In your role as a Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for defining avionics system architecture and completing trades regarding performance, complexity, risk, and effort. You will drive the vehicle-level design, testing, and integration of avionics hardware, including computing, sensing, actuation, communication, power, and display systems. You will work across engineering teams and will implement an electrical system design that meets system-level and certification requirements. You will be the owner of multiple components (IMUs, air data computers, batteries) and will be responsible for how they are installed in the aircraft, verified, and certified at the aircraft level.
Basic Success Criteria
Electrical Engineering fundamentals, typically gained through a Bachelor's Degree of Science or Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related discipline
5+ years of professional hands-on experience with electrical system-level development, integration, and testing

As a Systems Architect at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Systems team and will report to the Systems & Safety Manager. The Systems & Safety Team is responsible for architecting systems which support novel safety-critical functions, establishing development methodologies for new technologies, and complying with the federal regulations.
As part of an experienced multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to expanding the aircraft's operational and functional capabilities. Your professional experience in system design and development will further strengthen the team's ability to meet rigorous expectations of stakeholders and certification authorities. You will collaborate with members from other groups within Reliable Robotics to architect new and novel systems necessary for unmanned aircraft operations.
Responsibilities
In your role as a Systems Architect you will be responsible for the development and architectural design of prototypes and certifiable safety-critical flight systems in a dynamic start-up work environment.
You will have the following responsibilities:
Define new/novel functions necessary to control autonomous aircraft and manage contingencies
Define the relationship between the vehicle, pilot, and support system for remotely operated autonomous aircraft
Perform the decomposition of aircraft, system and LRU functions, define the system physical / logical architecture and allocate functionality
Perform trades studies to assess performance, complexity, risk, and cost of competing technical solutions
Work closely with system and safety analysts to define system architectural features to meet safety and security requirements
Derive and validate requirements and interfaces based on the architecture to ensure correct and complete implementation at the next design level
Support product development all the way through development up to production, test, and certification
You'll also have the opportunity to interact with other domains within Reliable Robotics and become involved in a broad task spectrum not limited to typical system engineering activities.
