Our team in the Elowitz Lab at Caltech/HHMI is engineering therapeutic protein circuits, a new cancer-treatment modality at the intersection of synthetic biology and oncology. We’re looking for an in vivo oncology scientist (Senior Research Assistant to Senior Associate Scientist) to help expand and run the program’s translational in vivo engine. The role starts in an academic setting, with the option to transition into an early-stage startup in 2027.
Why therapeutic circuits?
Cancer therapies face a fundamental trade-off between effectiveness and precision, driving off-target toxicity, recurrence, and resistance. Therapeutic protein circuits address this by directly rewiring oncogenic mutations to cell death. Delivered as mRNA in lipid nanoparticles, these engineered proteins can distinguish cancer from normal cells and have shown tumor suppression in vivo. By design, these circuits “sense and kill” rather than inhibit. This mechanism makes them independent of oncogene addiction and less susceptible to resistance than most targeted therapies, potentially enabling a new generation of highly potent and specific cancer medicines.

- Own and independently execute end-to-end in vivo oncology studies from tumor initiation through decision-grade analysis and reporting.
- Partner with the team to design studies and translate study plans into executable protocols.
- Execute and continuously refine a portfolio of in vivo models, including subcutaneous xenografts, orthotopic tumor models, and genetically induced models (including HTVi-initiated systems); establish and qualify new models.
- Perform hands-on mouse work, including tumor engraftment/initiation, dosing (IV, PO, IP, IT), monitoring, tumor measurements, necropsy, and tissue collection with rigorous documentation.
- Run longitudinal readouts such as IVIS bioluminescence imaging and blood sampling; perform terminal procedures, including terminal blood collection and perfusion.
- Lead downstream sample analysis workflows: process tissues for flow cytometry, IHC/IF, or spatial readouts (e.g., seqFISH) and coordinate tasks with the team.
- Conduct basic data and statistical analysis; build clear figures and concise summaries to inform study decisions and next steps.
- Support IACUC protocols and amendments; uphold high standards for animal welfare and EH&S compliance.
- Improve how we operate: upgrade our workflows/SOPs and support mentoring/training.
What qualifications are we looking for?

Key Responsibilities:
- Product Ownership: Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of customer-facing products, from ideation and requirement gathering to launch, optimization, and sunset, using AI tools to compress timelines and improve output quality at every stage.
- AI-Powered Product Development: Integrate AI and agentic AI tools (Cursor, Claude, v0, similar) into the product development workflow to automate spec writing, prototyping, QA, and iteration cycles. Identify where AI can replace or accelerate manual steps across the product lifecycle.
- Market Research: Conduct competitive analysis and gather insights to inform product strategy and identify new opportunities within the digital media, adtech, and influencer marketing ecosystems, leveraging AI to surface trends and synthesize data faster.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, design, sales, and marketing teams to ensure alignment on product goals, priorities, and execution. Serve as the bridge between technical AI capabilities and business needs.
- Feature Development: Prioritize and define product features that align with customer needs and business objectives. Create detailed product specs, user stories, and wireframes, using AI to accelerate documentation and ideation.
- Customer Focus: Engage with users to gather feedback and continuously improve the product experience. Serve as the voice of the customer in product planning and decision-making.
- Workflow Automation: Proactively identify repetitive or manual product operations processes and build or implement AI-powered automations to eliminate them.
- Roadmap Management: Maintain a product roadmap that aligns with company goals and communicates this vision effectively across the organization.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data analytics and AI-generated insights to track product performance, measure success against KPIs, and iterate on product features to drive continuous improvement.
- Agility: Thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage multiple products simultaneously, quickly pivoting when necessary to meet evolving business needs.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1-5+ years as a Product Manager within digital media, adtech, martech, or related domains. Experience in influencer marketing or paid social is a strong plus.
- AI & Agentic AI Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline product development. This means actually building with tools like Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, v0, Make/n8n, or similar, not just prompting. Experience implementing agentic AI workflows that automate product operations is highly valued.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of customer-facing digital products, advertising ecosystems, and performance-driven product development.
- Start-Up Experience: Proven ability to work in a high-speed, start-up environment where adaptability and resourcefulness are key.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with product management tools (e.g., JIRA), wireframing tools (e.g., Figma), and a good understanding of software development processes. Comfort working alongside engineers and understanding technical constraints.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across teams and stakeholders.
- Customer-Centric: Deep passion for understanding customer needs and translating them into compelling product features and experiences.

SEEKING EDUCATIONAL THERAPIST
Illuminate Educational Therapy Group is seeking a part-time Educational Therapist to provide ongoing support, strategies, and remediation to struggling learners. The position requires a minimum of two days of availability per week, during the 3:00-8:00 pm hours (after school hours).
As an Educational Therapist or Learning Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating/collaborating with classroom teachers, allied professionals, and parents to improve the academic lives and educational trajectory of your clients with ADHD, Executive Functioning weaknesses, dyslexia, reading disorders, processing disorders, dyscalculia/math difficulties, weaknesses in written expression, and more.
You will be responsible for providing intensive remediation to struggling learners in 1:1 sessions that are typically 50-minutes long, twice a week. You will be assessing students informally to measure baselines, establish ongoing goals, and progress monitor.You should be comfortable providing parents with consistent feedback to keep them updated, in the loop, and to teach specific strategies in-line with the student’s psychoeducational goals. At times, you will be participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings, engaging in consultation services to parents/caregivers, communicating with allied professionals, teachers, and collaborating with other therapists regarding client progress and recommendations.
The ideal candidate for this position will be friendly, nurturing, kind, empathetic, fun, detailed, have strong communication skills, experience working with parents and teachers, and a desire to individualize the learning experience of each client. Additionally, the candidate should be computer literate and comfortable with technology, passionate about supporting struggling learners, and able to work well with others in the best support of our students. This is both a collaborative role as well as one requiring a high-level of autonomy (including scheduling sessions, keeping case notes, establishing session plans, having your “finger on the pulse” of the students’ needs, and navigating the case management of the students as needed).
We work either in-office, in-home, at school, and at times, virtually with our students, and we ask that the applicant is able to work with us for at least one year, and ideally longer to provide students with stable, consistent support. If your short-term plans include a career change or move, you may not be the right fit for this role.
Requirements:
- Ed Therapist Certification and/or MA in Special Education (in process considered) teaching/tutoring experience
- Ability to drive to student’s home for in-home appointments
- Familiarity with writing, math, and basic knowledge of middle/high school academics.
- Ability to read assessment reports, formulate learning goals, manage a learning profile, document progress, and collaborate with allied professionals as needed.
- Write progress reports and session notes
- Have a warm, fun, engaging personality - ability to naturally establish rapport with students who may be a little bit resistant to support at first.
