Tidewater Staffing is currently seeking Outside Machinists for work in various local shipyards including locations of Newport News, VA, Norfolk, VA, and Portsmouth, VA.
The Outside Machinist must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform job operations/tasks on conventional and nuclear ships and submarines. The Outside Machinist must be assignable to any work center excluding nuclear and subsafe machinery.
The following is a list of typical work that an Outside Machinist might be asked to perform:
- Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align main propulsion machinery and associated equipment/components. Also remove, repair, overhaul, install, and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps, various types of valves, cargo handling machinery, anchor handling gear, boat davits, cranes, elevators, conveyors, firefighting equipment, machine shop equipment, galley, and laundry equipment.
- Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of the ships armament.
- Install, adjust, set, and repair or replaces various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gauges, valves, governors, and automatic alarms. Test or assist in the testing of shipboard machinery pier side or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
- Use various portable and fixed machine tools such as boring bars, milling machines, facing machines, and drill presses. Use precision measuring instruments such as height gages, depth gages, calipers, verniers, and various types of micrometers, and assists in the use of optical equipment.
- Coordinate and arrange for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, and written and/or oral instructions.
- Engineer, steam, machinist, installation, marine erector, marine machinist, outfitter, outside-installation machinist Installs ship machinery, for example, propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, and steering gear, working from blueprints and using hand tools, calipers, and micrometers.
- Lays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, for example shafting and steam lines.
- Installs below-deck auxiliaries, for example, evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers, and connects them to steampipe systems.
- Tests and inspects installed machinery and equipment during dock and sea trials.
- May also set up and operate such machine shop tools as lathe, boring mill, planer, shaper, slotter, and milling machine to fabricate replacement parts.

The Retail Engineer - Store Operations’ primary responsibilities are to update and maintain our engineered labor standards platform. In addition, identify and analyze key metric data alongside current store operational processes to support workload simplification and new initiatives. - Compile and upkeep relevant datasets and information crucial to store operations such as Time Studies, Labor Standards, etc.
- Become an expert in our labor standards platform (LaborPro) and ensure accurate inputs, maintenance, and application of the system.
- Skilled in work measurement, standard data, and predetermined time systems and tools (MOST) with a focus on time study expertise.

This position is for a Data Analyst who can manage Supply Chain’s SQL server data, Big Query data warehouse, Alteryx workflow (ETL) and Tableau Dashboard development. The candidate should be an excellent Alteryx and Tableau modeler who can build from requirement documentation with limited support.
Responsibilities:
- Performs advanced business analysis using various techniques, e.g. statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, data mining
- Create informative reports, dashboards, visualizations, and presentations to communicate data findings to stakeholders, translating complex information into actionable insights and opportunities for improvement
- Works closely with the internal or external client to understand available data elements, where they reside across various systems.
- Manages, architects, and automates the flow of information from various source systems through the supply chain SQL Server and ultimately into the Supply Chain Data Warehouse, ensuring clean, harmonized, and accurate data.

Your Challenges
- Requires limited supervision/oversight, has experience in the trade and can perform all work required as an Inside Machinist
- Must have the ability to manufacture complex components from stock or modify parts in accordance with all drawing requirements
- Must be able to perform the set up and operation of all types of machines (lathes, mills, grinders, saws, etc.) and hand tools used in the trade as well as the ability to use all precision measuring instruments such as outside diameter and inside diameter micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools and possess the ability to accurately record readings and measurements
- Advanced proficiency in reading complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, technical work documents, measuring and marking dimensions and reference points on material, selecting proper tooling, attachments, and accessories as well as manufacturing fixtures to hold work pieces and assemblies
- Advanced working knowledge of all feed/speed rates and machining characteristics of various materials
- Ability to machine complex parts to close tolerances ensuring that the finish requirements of the drawing specifications are achieved with first time quality
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems
- Work includes small and large assembly, and machining of heavy steel
- Apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and machine shop procedures
- Perform machine maintenance and is responsible for keeping work are clean and the immediate reporting of safety issues to Supervisor
- Work independently to complete responsibilities
- NDT experience is a plus
What You Bring
- Must be US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance
- 5 years machine shop experience and/or have completed a recognized apprenticeship as a General Machinist.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Ability to machine as per drawing tolerance of .0005\" where required
- Must be able to demonstrate General Machinist skills in the following areas:
- Lathe
- Milling
- Drilling
- Machine shop power and pneumatic tools
- Must be able to design and manufacture fixtures and template
- Must be able to make own layouts as per drawing
- Must be able to understand GD&T tolerances
- Experience operating forklifts, cranes, plate clamps and slings a plus
- Expected to have or purchase basic hand tools.
- The ability to work overtime when necessary and travel up to 25% is also a must.
- Must possess valid drivers license and maintain a clear driving record
