Physician Assistant Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Board Certification as a Physician Assistant
  • BLS certification required
  • 1-3 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, surgical PA, or related specialty
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and participate in on-site coverage
  • Consistent attendance and ability to perform clinical duties during scheduled shifts

Cardiothoracic Surgery PA Responsibilities

  • Deliver independent, high-quality patient care in collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgery team
  • Conduct patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and review diagnostic data
  • Develop, implement, and monitor treatment plans; communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff
  • Assist surgeons in managing hospital patients, including operating room (OR) support, rounding, and consults
  • Participate in overnight and 24-hour call coverage (7-10 call days per month)
  • Utilize multidisciplinary approaches for continuity, coordination, and evaluation of care
  • Document patient care in compliance with regulatory and hospital guidelines
  • Educate and counsel patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions
  • Float to other departments as needed and provide telemedicine services

  • Comfortable performing a broad range of anesthesia cases including general surgery, orthopedics, and endoscopy
  • Familiarity with EPIC documentation and completion of orientation/hospital modules

Responsibilities – Anesthesia and Perioperative Care

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based anesthesia care for general surgery, orthopedics, endoscopy, and other operative cases (anesthesia jobs, Locum Tenens CRNA duties)
  • Perform regional anesthesia and procedural skills including ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (USGRA), spinal anesthesia (SAB), labor epidurals (LE), and central line placement
  • Manage preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthesia care, and postoperative recovery in collaboration with surgical and perioperative teams
  • Document anesthetic care accurately in EPIC and local systems to ensure continuity of care
  • Adapt to flexible scheduling and provide occasional coverage across facilities within the service area
