Job Title: Sr. Backend Java Developer

Location: McLean, VA - onsite - 5 days/week

Description:

They’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join an Agile team responsible for a mission-critical web platform. You’ll work on stabilizing and enhancing existing systems while driving modernization using Java and AWS. This role suits a pragmatic, hands-on engineer who enjoys owning backend systems end-to-end and shaping technical direction in a regulated environment.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Develop and evolve microservices and REST APIs
• Modernize legacy backend components while ensuring system stability
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries. Integrate services with AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, etc.)
• Apply event-driven and cloud-native patterns to improve scalability and resilience
• Write unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews
• Support production systems, debugging issues, and improving observability
• Collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Solid understanding of backend architecture, microservices, and design patterns
• Hands-on experience with AWS services Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience working with legacy systems and incremental modernization
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments
• Financial Services or Wealth Management experience is a plus
• Ownership mindset and strong problem-solving skills

Job Title: Sr. Appian Developer

Description:

They are seeking a highly experienced Senior Appian Developer to design, develop, and modernize enterprise workflow and case management solutions within a mortgage and financial services environment. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on expertise in Appian application development, strong experience building scalable solutions on AWS, and a solid understanding of mortgage industry processes (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac exposure highly preferred).

This role will play a key part in building robust, automated, and compliant business process solutions that integrate with enterprise data platforms and cloud-based services.

Qualifications:

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in Appian application development
• Deep expertise in the Appian platform, including SAIL interfaces, process models, record types, expression rules, and integrations
• Strong understanding of business process modeling (BPM) and workflow automation
• Proven experience designing and implementing end-to-end enterprise workflow solutions
• Solid knowledge of SQL and data modeling, including relational schema design and enterprise database integration
• Hands-on experience with API integrations, including REST/SOAP services and secure integration patterns between Appian and external systems
• Working knowledge of Java, with the ability to support custom integrations, plug-ins, or backend services when required
• Experience working within AWS cloud environments (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, etc.)
• Experience in mortgage or financial services domains, preferably supporting Freddie Mac programs or platforms
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems (Git)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
