We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our BFG Manufacturing Engineering team near Fort Wayne, Indiana. As an Automation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing automation solutions that drive efficiency and productivity across our manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for leading projects from conception to completion, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that leverage advanced technologies such as smart material handling, robotics, AGV, ASRS, vision systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

• Conduct pre-studies, prototypes, and pilots to capture business requirements and determine the best solutions in terms of costs/benefits, deadlines, risks, and functional capabilities.
• Design, build, and lead implementation projects to improve plant performance by replacing outdated systems, improving existing equipment, or adding new innovations to make progress.
• Implement and monitor actions necessary to mitigate risks (calculations, simulations, tests, etc.)
• Implement best practices for automation design and development, including worldwide sharing of best practices.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors and contractors.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in automation.
• Provide detailed electrical design and automation programming for assigned projects.
• Provide estimates and technical schedules for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement or upgrade.
• Provide backup support and training to plant maintenance teams on new automation systems that they implement.

• Start to finish technical Project Management including risk, schedule, budget, and resources.
• Lead/Participate in system approvals, qualification, and validation of industrial robustness.
• Manage change requests, approvals, and change testing.
• Assist local technicians in troubleshooting and root cause analysis as needed.
• Interface with internal company support groups to accomplish objectives and provide contract engineering management and direction when needed.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field, or equivalent technical experience.
• Ability to set and achieve goals with minimum supervision.
• Success in working with other people or a team to meet a common objective.
• Developed/implemented team or group project plans that met or exceeded expectations.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and data accuracy in previous work.

The harness engineer is a very cross-functional role at the convergence of the avionics, mechanical, integration, and production teams, with significant hands-on work designing, building, integrating, and testing our harnesses, enclosures, and mounting hardware; expect to broaden your design and application experience.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Harness Engineer you will work with the avionics, mechanical, and integration teams to define the harnessing design, including routing, component selection, and manufacturing and integration processes. You'll be responsible for the detailed design of both flight and test harnesses, and you'll be working with the production technicians and A&Ps to get the harnesses built and installed on the aircraft. Partner with platform teams to operationalize semantics in Snowflake:

• Enable semantic access patterns that support analytics and AI applications.

• Contribute to solutions that leverage Snowflake Cortex for semantic enrichment and assisted discovery (within established governance constraints).

Collaborate with governance and architecture stakeholders to embed:

• Versioning, stewardship workflows, quality checks, and change management for semantic assets.

• Guide best practices and mentor engineers/analysts on ontology engineering, graph modeling, and metrics-first design.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years in semantic engineering, ontology engineering, knowledge graph development, or closely related roles.

• Demonstrated experience in healthcare data domains (payer/provider, clinical, claims, RWE, quality, outcomes, etc.).

• Strong hands-on ontology engineering experience: RDF, RDFS, OWL, SPARQL and/or graph query experience

• Ontology modularization, alignment, and lifecycle management

• Experience with property graph modeling (e.g., Neo4j-style patterns) and translating between RDF and property graph representations when needed.

• Proven delivery of a metrics-first approach:

• Canonical KPIs/metrics definitions, dimensional modeling alignment, semantic consistency across BI and data products.

• Experience working with modern cloud data platforms, especially Snowflake, and exposure to Snowflake Cortex for AI-enabled workflows.

• Strong stakeholder communication skills: able to translate clinical/business intent into precise semantic definitions and usable artifacts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability and terminology standards (e.g., HL7/FHIR, SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10) and how to map/align them to enterprise semantics.

• Experience with semantic tooling and practices, validation rules, ontology testing, and CI/CD for semantic assets.
