Behavioral Health Counselor

Location: School setting.Albuquerque, NM 87105 / Zia Pueblo, NM 87053. This position will be shared between two schools.

Pay Rate: $35-40 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday
• Core Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
• Student-facing hours: Typically 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• Based on a 180-day academic calendar (Aug–May)
• Occasional after-school events & limited summer support as needed

Job Description:

We are seeking a Behavioral Health Counselor to support students in a K-12 school setting. This role focuses on mental health services, social-emotional learning (SEL), and behavioral interventions to help students succeed academically and emotionally.

Requirements:

• Possess a master’s degree (or higher) and at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: content in mental health counseling, school counseling, social and emotional development, and/or social work.
• 3+ years of counseling experience (school-based or behavioral health)
• Active New Mexico license/certification (school counseling, social work, psychology, or related field)
• Experience with individual and group counseling techniques
• Strong communication, assessment, and crisis response skills

Highly Preferred:

• Experience with SEL, PBIS, or MTSS frameworks
• Background working with children, adolescents, or diverse communities

Responsibilities:

• Provide individual, group, and family counseling
• Lead Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and classroom support
• Conduct behavioral health assessments, screenings, and evaluations
• Develop individualized treatment and intervention plans
• Support crisis intervention and behavioral response
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families on student success
• Implement school-wide mental health and wellness initiatives
• Maintain documentation in compliance with FERPA/HIPAA standards
