Part-Time Lecturer Positions


The Department of Community Nursing invites individuals interested in Part-time Lecturer (PTL) opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate level. Opportunities are available for clinical and didactic assignments. Part-time faculty are expected to engage in course-based continuous quality improvement/assessment per college processes and be committed to rapid pedagogical and other academic process changes as driven by environmental conditions.


Undergraduate Level Teaching:


Opportunities primarily include clinical agency, clinical skills laboratory, and/or simulation instruction in community, psychiatric mental-health, pediatric, and women's and maternal child health pre-licensure and accelerated BS clinical courses. Didactic teaching opportunities are available in the RNBS track and possibly other tracks.


Requirements:


Preferred individuals for clinical education assignments will have a Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program, recent clinical practice experience, and clinical education experience in higher education or a healthcare institution. Individuals with a Bachelor's degree in nursing must matriculate into a Master's Program within 1 year or obtain NLN Clinical Nurse Educator certification within one year to be considered for re-hire per the Massachusetts regulation.


Individuals for didactic assignments will have a graduate degree in Nursing from a Nationally accredited program and recent relevant practice experience. Preferred individuals will have teaching experience in higher education or a healthcare institution.


Graduate Level Teaching:


Individuals will have the appropriate level of graduate degree in nursing from an accredited program or its equivalent, as required for the teaching assignment. Individuals will have teaching experience in higher education or a healthcare institution and recent practice experience relevant to the teaching assignment.


All individuals will have an active RN license in Massachusetts or eligibility for RN licensure in MA.

One of five colleges at the university, The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has an enrollment of over 700 nursing students, including traditional, accelerated, and RN-BS undergraduates as well as graduate students in Master's, DNP, and PhD programs. All programs are fully accredited by the CCNE through 2026.

Assistant Teaching Professor


The Department of Community Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applicants for a full-time renewable, Assistant Teaching Professor starting September 1, 2026. We seek a colleague who is an experienced Family Health (maternal-child or pediatric health) or Community-Population Health educator with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring emerging professionals. However, expertise in other clinical specialty areas will be considered. Primary responsibilities include teaching didactic (may include on-ground and online teaching) and clinical courses in the area of maternal-child, pediatric health, or community-population health in our undergraduate baccalaureate programs - traditional 4-year and accelerated second degree hybrid tracks. May also include other baccalaureate level nursing courses. Additional responsibilities include undergraduate academic advising, departmental, college and university service, and continuing education needed to maintain professional licensure, certification, and pedological innovation.


Required qualifications: A master's degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program, Massachusetts RN licensure or eligibility for MA RN licensure, and two or more years of full-time or full-time equivalent didactic and clinical teaching.


Preferred qualifications: The required qualifications plus three or more years of full-time or full-time equivalent didactic and clinical teaching, nursing specialty certification, and Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential.

General Description
Assists teachers, counselors, staff, parents, probation officers, and agencies by providing a safe learning environment for at-risk students who are in a juvenile court and/or community school or community day school. Combines instruction support, and tutoring to students in a strictly monitored setting.



Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support in core academic and vocational subjects to students; prepare and may develop age- and grade-appropriate instructional aids and exercises to support the subject matter being taught.

  • May perform student intakes; proctor and conduct state-mandated assessments of students to establish baselines, determine academic needs and placement, and measure progress; score objective tests; keep appropriate records, using electronic student information systems; ensure confidentiality of student information.

  • Assist with daily screening for weapons, banned substances, and paraphernalia; escort students going from one location to another; monitor student activity in and between classroom, lunchroom, restrooms, and recreational areas throughout the school day, including dismissal time; monitor classroom activities during brief absence of a teacher.

  • Observe, monitor, and redirect the behavior of students within approved procedures; reinforce behavior modification techniques determined by the teacher; develop and use incentives as positive reinforcement; document behavioral incidents and report them to site supervisor; participate in consultations with parents and staff on behavioral interventions for students; use appropriate discipline in accordance with school safety plan, school rules, and teacher's assessment.

  • As part of the instructional team: support communication with parents to facilitate students' success in a restorative justice environment; provide input to teachers and specialists on student performance, progress, and behavior; may participate in parent-teacher conferences; may be assigned to contact designated Probation officials when resolution cannot be reached with students and parents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Education and Experience
Education: Possession of a high school diploma and passing score on a rigorous assessment examination demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist with instructing children/students in reading, writing, and mathematics; 48 or more semester units of higher education will substitute for the competency assessment exam.

General Requirements:

  • Active registration for Registered Nurse – Board of Nursing, State of Iowa.
  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.
  • PALS certified preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience as a RN preferred.
  • Certification by a nationally recognized nursing organization preferred.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be capable of problem solving, critical thinking, and assessment of patient condition. 
  • Experience preferred.

  • Demonstrates clinical competence

  • Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable
