The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Mosquito Control Inspector(Highway & Bridge Maintenance Division).

The Mosquito Control Inspector for the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is an hourly position that engages in routine field inspection work in the control and extermination of mosquitoes. Incumbent is responsible for mosquito control and surveillance activities to aid the County's larvicide and adulticide programs.
Work involves responsibility for making inspections of suspected mosquito breeding places in residential and rural areas. Work follows established routines with specific instructions received from superiors on all new assignments. Work includes collecting and identifying mosquito species in the field, recording all daily activities, updates data, and reports mosquito problems to supervisor as needed in a timely manner. Incumbent utilizes appropriate control method(s), applies the control method(s) in accordance with the applicable laws and Broward County policy. Work is reviewed by the incidence of public complaints against mosquito nuisance and field inspections by supervisors. This position involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals. The ability to wear an appropriately-fitted respirator mask and other personal protective equipment are requirements for this position.
***This position requires availability to work night-time, daytime and weekends as needed with notification to changes in schedule sometimes being provided with less than 24 hours' notice***

General Description
Routine field inspection work in the control and extermination of mosquitoes.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires six (6) months in handling pesticide and some knowledge of public health pest control or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and LicensesPublic Health Applicators License issued by State of Florida must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Makes systematic daily checks of assigned area in the salt marshes during mosquito breeding periods; inspects ditches at regular intervals to determine incidence of mosquito breeding; determines breed of mosquito and the stage of the breeding process; keeps constant watch to prevent new breeding areas from developing; watches for incoming flights of adult mosquitoes.

Makes site inspections in an assigned residential area; identifies him/herself to residents; looks for containers holding water, pools, elevator shafts, sumps, and other places where mosquitoes could breed; calls undesirable situations to the attention of the occupant or owner; keeps work records of inspections made; makes count of adult mosquitoes at established stations throughout the County; drives spray truck and operates spraying machinery; operates equipment to combat early stages of mosquitoes.

Answers public complaints regarding annoyances by mosquitoes; determines the breed of mosquito involved and locates breeding places in the area; takes routine corrective measures as indicated.

Confers with superiors in the analysis of scientific and procedural problems involved and works out plans to abate or prevent the development of mosquito nuisance; assigns and supervises subordinate mosquito inspectors in various areas of the County; prepares and maintains survey maps.

Advises the public on methods and procedures to prevent mosquito breeding and to abate mosquito nuisance.

Orders, issues, and maintains adequate stock levels of supplies and equipment.

Performs related work as assigned.

Summary

The Control Technician performs a variety of maintenance, modification, and repair activities in controls of all building equipment and material handling systems in the distribution centers. SCOPE OF WORK

Responds to complaint calls in order of priority to, set traps, capture loose, stray, sick, injured, or abandoned animals; investigate animal abuse, neglect, and/or nuisance.

Conducts general investigations of animal related problems including, but not limited to animal cruelty and neglect, aggressive and dangerous dogs, animals running at-large, barking, permitting, licensing and impounding of animals all which may involve hostile, irate or distressed members of the public, in a tactful, professional and effective manner.

Patrols an assigned zone in order to identify/capture stray animals, responds to calls/complaints, and enforces animal care ordinances; captures a variety of animals in order to protect the community and to protect animals from injury/death.

Apprehends and confines stray, injured, aggressive/dangerous and nuisance animals in the most safe, humane and approved manner possible. Transports animals to sheltering facility and/or veterinary clinic.

Performs routine medical procedures/evaluation upon animals while in the field including but not limited to, conducts basic medical triage as needed; euthanize animals if necessary and permitted; and administers first-aid when necessary.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective drug therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Assists with pharmacokinetics consult service and renal drug dosing per hospital protocol.
  • Reads, extracts and interprets information in patient medical records accurately.
  • Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Sustains the hospital drug formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
  • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners as appropriate.
  • Provides accurate, adequate and timely drug information to the hospital’s professional staff.
  • Provides drug education to patients and their families per institutional protocol.
  • Participates in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data, conducts monitors and inspections and maintains logs, records and other documentation as assigned.
  • Conducts designated interventions as defined in department Clinical Intervention activities (IV to PO, Renal Dosing, Pharmacokinetic dosing support, Anticoagulation)
  • Baseline departmental standards for reporting interventions for clinical productivity as defined by departmental goals.
  • Participates in antibiotic stewardship, opioid stewardship, and shortage management activities as assigned
  • Attends interdisciplinary rounds when assigned
  • Provides services efficiently and in a timely fashion
  • Contributes to the advancement of the pharmacy department and medication management of the organization through (minimum):
  • Precepting of pharmacy residents and students
  • Assessment of new and ongoing pharmacist competencies
  • In-service of pharmacy and/or nursing staff (1 per year)
  • Participates in departmental or sub-committees as assigned
  • Completes 1 clinical project per year

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy degree required
  • One of the following required: BPS Board Certification, Residency, Fellowship or at least 5 years of hospital experience
  • ASHP Residency Preceptor status required within 180 days of hire (for Ministries with Residency programs)

Experience

  • PGY-1 and PGY-2 residency completion, Board certification, or 5 years hospital experience required at hire

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Pharmacy state licensure required within 60 days of start date
  • Pharmacist preceptor required within 90 days
  • BLS or ACLS required
  • PALS (for pediatric practice) required
