Position Description
Job Summary:
The Ground Person is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) plant. This role performs general labor duties, assists with plant maintenance, and ensures a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Essential Functions:
- Protect Family and Friends by following all Peckham’s safety policies and procedures, performing daily workplace exams, working safely at all times (including at elevations), and arriving prepared with required PPE.
- Safety always wins. Support safe and efficient plant operations by performing hands-on work, including material handling, shoveling, raking, operating equipment, and assisting with site activities
- Results matter. Maintain continuous material flow and production by monitoring plant systems (belts, conveyors, aggregate flow) and communicating or addressing issues that could impact operations
- Dedication. Prevent downtime and maintain a safe work environment by performing housekeeping and removing debris or material buildup from equipment and plant areas
- Determined. Maximize plant uptime by supporting maintenance activities, including staging materials and tools, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs
- Communicate. Support team coordination and equipment reliability by following direction, communicating effectively (radios, hand signals), and ensuring proper use and care of tools and equipment
Position Requirements
Requirements, Education and Experience:
- Willingness to work variable shifts (days/nights), weekends, and overtime as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic equipment or system issues
- Strong communication skills with proficiency in verbal and written English
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality in a fast-paced or labor-intensive environment
- Commitment to safety and ability to consistently follow established policies, procedures, and instructions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, take direction, and contribute to overall plant operations
- Prior experience in construction, aggregates, asphalt, or a similar industrial environment preferred (but not required); loader operation experience is a plus. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn and be trained on equipment operation.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Travel:

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position is classified as medium to heavy work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The role involves prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive manual tasks such as shoveling and raking.
Work is performed outdoors and in an active plant environment in all weather conditions, with regular exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving mechanical equipment. Employees may be required to work at elevated heights and around hot materials.
The employee is regularly required to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors and must wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

- Three years’ experience writing service with a highline dealership.
- Ability to read, write, reasonable spelling skills for writing repair orders and communicating professionally with email.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and customers.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, taxes, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, tasks, or handle any customer situation.
- Ability to apply creative problem solving for any customer issue or concern and decide if further escalation is necessary.

We are looking for TWO Certified GM Technicians to join our team. Relocation assistance in addition to competitive pay is available! This position functions as a skilled technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair.
Responsibilities
- Performs work as outlined on repair order such as oil change, tune-ups, checking/replacing fluid levels and tire rotation with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair with use of testing and diagnostic equipment.Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended using checklists.Communicates with service advisor and customers immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. Provides labor and time estimates for additional work.Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.Keeps shop area neat and clean.Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
- Valid Driver License and clean driving record.
- Ability to read and comprehend instruction and information.
- Ability to use a computer to search for bulletins or technical information.
- Ability to provide your own tools. (All manufacturer specific/special tools will be supplied by the dealer to share).
- ASE certification is preferred.
- Must supply your own OSHA approved footwear.
