Job Description

Task Breakdown and Workflow

The overall goal of this role is to maximize throughput/ship the most servers. The best estimate is 20% meetings. 30% independent analysis, 50% collaborative work with both internal and external engineers/technicians.

This role will be on-site at a supplier (third-party-owned building). They will need to coordinate with our company engineers on the overall state of the program and, tactically, on the day's plan and the main issues the team is facing. They will then work to find more information, which could be physical inspection (they will be at the factory) or it could be at their laptop, reviewing logs, Excel data, etc.


Top 3 Must-Have Hard Skills

  • Manufacturing or Process Engineering - They need to understand how factory flows work and how to optimize them. How to find waste. How to track material, etc.
  • Electronics experience - In addition to knowing general manufacturing knowledge, they need to have some idea of electronics. It does NOT need to be in servers, as that is such a small pool, it makes it nearly impossible. Can be in consumer electronics, automotive, etc. If the person has only worked on mechanical items (like assembly, welding, etc) it’s not going to work. They have to have worked on a product that has electrical components and software components.
  • Basic data analysis-Excel proficiency at a minimum. SQL is a nice-to-have but not needed. They need to be able to get a spreadsheet that shows 100 servers and has timestamps for when they started and stopped testing, and be able to say on average how long things are taking, what’s the worst case, etc. (Just as an example.)

This position entails the fabrication and assembly of complex Space flight cable and harnesses assemblies from drawings, schematics, wire lists, or engineering sketches in conformance with government specifications and workmanship standards. Assembly is performed in a professional atmosphere in an ESD and FOD awareness area. Regular use of soldering iron, tweezers, heat guns, and other common hand tools.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Obtain all necessary information to perform job assignments and report any discrepancies to appropriate personnel.

• Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to perform point-to-point assembly, where assemblies and subassemblies require wiring and soldering of large masses of wires in confined spaces.

• Following appropriate wiring diagram, perform wiring using harness boards, tie-in cables and harnesses.

• Perform electrical/electronic and mechanical assembly tasks working alone or as a member of an assembly team as assigned.

• Lay out and construct harness boards to assemble and form wiring and cables for a wide variety of electrical/electronic and mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.

• Mix and apply bonding components and encapsulate.

• Use and operate a broad range of hand tools and assembly equipment to perform tasks.

• Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.


Basic Qualifications for Level 2 Harness Technician:

• High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of 3 additional years of education and/or relevant experience in assembly, electronics, manufacturing, production or logistics.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical assembly and wiring.

• Must be capable of successfully completing Certification to IPC WHMA-A-620 (Cable and Wire Harness Assembly) and NASA-J-STD.

How will you make an impact?
Familiar with technologies specific to area of competence. Can convey technical solutions for areas of competence both to other engineers and to business personnel. Work with engineering team to develop final product solution for chosen architecture within time and cost constraints.

What will you do?

- Assist Senior or Lead Design Engineer in the Development and utilization of processes for Electrical Hardware requirement analysis and documentation, Design documentation and requirements management.
- Assist Senior or Lead Design Engineer in providing Document Control with a complete design package consisting of requirements and design documentation, schematics, BOM’s, vendor lists, and conceptual packaging and assembly drawings prior to production launch.
- Participate in elements of design engineering including design reviews and design verification.
- Follow engineering department design flow processes and procedures.
- Provide input to identification and mitigation of technical project risks, technical and integration dependencies affecting overall project plans and schedules.
- Support production discrepancies by incorporating fixes into subsequent revisions in a timely manner.
- · Assigned to projects of diverse scope, where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Comply and follow all procedures within the company security and safety policies
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience:
