  • The surgical assistant applies any other specific dressing material such as splints or casts. Assesses skin integrity, assists in transfer of the patient, and follows the patient to recovery if needed or directed by surgeon.
  • The surgical assistant who has appropriate training also performs under surgeon supervision other procedures including but not limited to: vein and graft harvesting, and graft and implant preparation.
  • The surgical assistant performs additional duties as delegated by the surgeon in cooperation with state and local policy.

Surgical Technologist First Assistants are responsible for assisting the surgical team in the preoperative, intraoperative, and post-operative phases of patient care.

/n/nResponsibilities/n

- Assist the surgeon, nurse, anesthesiologist, and/or CRNA during surgical procedures.
/n
- Maintain sterile fields and ensure the application of aseptic techniques.
/n
- Prepare surgical instruments and materials required for procedures.
/n
- Monitor patient status and assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery.
/n

/n/nRequired Experience / Certifications / Licensure/n

/n
- Graduate of a surgical technology accredited surgical assisting program.
/n
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through the NBSTSA.
/n
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
/n
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a surgical setting required.
