Assistant Nurse Managers are responsible for the following:

  • With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, the Assistant Nurse Manager works with the Nurse Manager and provides oversight for patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift.
  • They promote quality evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner.
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the Nurse Manager in assessment and planning for nursing care.
  • She/he assists in leading the daily operations of the unit
  • Acts as a resource, lead, and clinical role model for the patient care team.
  • Advances and oversees patient care standards of the unit for the designated shift
  • Facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery and flow through the continuum of care.
  • She/he carries out the responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in her/his absence with guidance from the Administrative Director
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in hiring and evaluation of staff
  • The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations of the nursing unit.
  • She/he supports nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation in, and mentoring of colleagues, on councils and the Clinical Ladder program.


Qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional/leadership certification preferred (for example CNOR, CEN, NE-BC, other) within 2 years of hire and 2+ years acute care experience required; experience in a similar or 'like' unit is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management potential.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice; BLS required based on organizational guidelines/polices. ACLS and PALS as required by department.
  • Certification in specialty preferred.
  • OR RN experience a must!

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required at hire.

  • MA certification required within 90 days of hire from one of the following Saint Alphonsus approved agencies:

    • American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA)

    • American Medical Technologists (RMA)

    • National Healthcare Association (CCMA)

    • National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA)

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire.

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Mount Carmel East has 16 beds.
