WATG is hiring a Project Manager - Interiors for our office in New York.

The Project Manager- Interiors directs multiple projects, impacts revenue and growth, and is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing project teams and resourcing. The position ensures that the work process flows are smooth, and the execution of interior architectural projects runs efficiently. The Project Manager is the primary liaison between the principal, the team, and the client. Team building and motivation are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary point of contact for the client
  • Successfully represents the client's goals and needs of the team and the firm's requirements to the client, building and strengthening connections through a comprehensive understanding of the project goals, needs, and progress
  • Consults with the client to determine function and spatial requirements and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time
  • Keeps the client apprised of project progress regularly, liaising with other project parties for clarification, coordination, and negotiation of critical issues
  • In collaboration with the Senior Designer and Project Architect, manages the execution and delivery of implementation documents through all phases of the project, including contracts, budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, documentation, specifications and construction, field observations, change orders, pay requests, and furnishings selection and purchase, post-occupancy evaluation and harvesting and sharing lessons learned on project impact
  • Provides leadership, resources, and technical advice for the generation of construction documents for interior environments, including detailing and finish application, adherence to design intent and carry-through
  • Collaborates in project meeting management, including meeting purpose and agendas, issuing meeting minutes, reports and action items logs to maintain clarity on scheduling, decisions made by the client and the team, and follow-up tasks needed to progress the project
  • Creates detailed project schedules, work breakdown structure, and budgets, and maintains the work plan through regular monitoring and communication, and by making timely decisions and taking actions to meet project milestones
  • Manages the relationship between the project contract terms, the team assignments, budgets, and schedules, and controls the resulting impact on WATG's financial results, forecasts, and staffing plans
  • Supervises and mentors team members toward effective and efficient project progress and professional development
  • Assists senior management in developing and validating project scope and fees, budgets, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process
  • Assists with business development, marketing, and negotiation efforts in the procurement of new projects and clients, especially as it relates to additional work/add services from existing clients; prepares and finalizes project contracts and subcontracts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture
  • Professional license preferred
  • Environmental accreditation preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in interior architectural practice with management experience in all project phases
  • Proficient technical expertise in MS Office, Adobe Suite, DesignSmart, AutoCAD, Sketchup, and other design tools
  • Revit experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and architectural building systems
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets
  • Experience with FF&E to carry out design intent

  • Previous experience in dietary supplements manufacturing, specifically with soft gel dosage forms, is highly preferred.

Job Summary:

Bernards is seeking new, dynamic Employee-Owners who are committed to the overall Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Bernards to help buildA Better Experience. Our ideal Project Manager candidate will manage all aspects of assigned project(s) from preconstruction through closeout. This includes preconstruction phase activities such as constructability reviews, value engineering, estimating, budget control, prime contract negotiation, and preconstruction schedule management. In addition, manage construction phase activities such as overall leadership, staff management, client management, project setup, risk management, document management, subcontractor buyout, schedule management, QA/QC management, change management, submittal, and RFI management, financial reporting, and project closeout.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • PRECONSTRUCTION: Assist in the estimating / budgeting process, perform constructability reviews, help develop and manage the value engineering process, assist in the preparation of preliminary schedules and prime contract reviews.
  • CONTRACT DOCUMENTS: Clearly understand all documents that make up the "Contract Documents” and enforce/manages the documents.
  • AGREEMENTS: Prepare and ensure that scope descriptions are complete, well-coordinated, and issued timely.
  • SAFETY: Ensure that the project site is safe and that the Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is implemented comprehensively, and all Bernards safety procedures are being followed.
  • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Manage all project financial reporting processes, including overseeing all budgets, contracts, invoices, payment applications, and change order requests.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT: Identify areas of risk and plans to address them.Ensure proper insurance is in place and that the project is in full compliance with all Bernards risk management policies.
  • QA/QC: Manage the Bernards Quality Management Manual (QMM) outlining quality policies, standards and procedures, ensuring the project meets or exceeds the quality standards of our clients.
  • SCHEDULING: Create and update the project schedule collaboratively with the Superintendent(s) to develop accurate and detailed project schedules.
  • DOCUMENT CONTROL: Ensure that all document control procedures are being followed.
  • REPORTING: As applicable to the project requirements, create the monthly reports for financial status, project status, schedule status, client reporting, etc.
  • CLOSEOUT: Manage and oversee all closeout, including final submittals, punch list, as-builts, warranties, and final payments.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.


Preferred Experience, Education, and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
  • Over 7 years of construction industry experience managing projects from start-up to completion.
  • DSA/Public Works experience is preffered.
  • Project experience ranging from $15M – $90M.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with team members, industry partners, and clients.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time, workload, prioritize and maintain a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Competency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), P6 Scheduling and BIM.
  • Strong negotiation skills with industry partners and clients.
