Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our Interventional cardiology - structural heart/valve department. This position is a combination of 75% outpatient, 25% inpatient consults (not primary management of inpatients). The APP will be responsible for one-month and one-year clinic follow-ups for all structural heart/valve procedures and management of inpatient consults for valve. The program is evolving to support our APPs to expand their scope to evaluation of new outpatients for valve disease, primarily aortic valve for TAVR, and increased independence with inpatient consults.

Schedule: M-F, 5x8-hour shifts, potential for 4x10-hour shifts based on department needs

  • no nights/weekends/holidays/on-call

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
  • Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population.
  • Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise.
  • Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise.
  • Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.

MHS is hiring married couples to serve as Full-time Flex Houseparents. In this unique and life-changing career, couples reside in on-campus student homes and provide care, guidance, supervision, and support for a group of approximately 8–13 students living in the home. Flex Houseparents play a vital role in creating a structured, family-like environment that fosters students’ academic, emotional, and social development so they can reach their full potential.

Responsibilities include:


  • Providing daily supervision and mentorship
  • Managing household routines and student schedules
  • Administering medications and ensuring student wellness
  • Driving students to activities, as well as planning and actively engaging in developmental and recreational activities with students
  • Leading daily devotions and accompanying students to Sunday Chapel
  • Overseeing budgeting and household reporting

Upon hire, Flex Houseparents initially support various student homes and follow a working schedule of nine consecutive days on duty, followed by three days off. On weekdays, houseparents have unscheduled time while students are in school. Flex Houseparents eventually transition into a Placed Houseparent role, where they live and work with the same group of students in their own student home.

A Typical Day for You May Include:

  • Assistant Manager Career Growth & Development: The development program lasts approximately 12 months and includes structured training with mentorship and leadership guidance. Upon completion, you’ll have an additional six months to advance into an Assistant Manager position.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent leadership experience (approximately 3 years)
  • Willingness to travel up to 85% (program dependent)
  • Ability to relocate upon securing an Assistant Manager role through an application process
  • Valid CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain during the program)
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift
  • Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above shoulders and below knees
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 32 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to monitor equipment from a distance
