RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY Provides executive leadership for Jeffco Public Schools' comprehensive school safety, security, and emergency management enterprise. Develops and oversees the district's school safety strategy, integrating prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery across 168 campuses over 774 square miles and serving approximately 74,000 students and 14,000 employees. Directs a complex, 24/7 Department of School Safety with responsibility for strategic planning, business operations, workforce management, and performance oversight. Serves as the district's senior safety advisor to the Superintendent, Cabinet, and Board of Education and as the primary executive liaison to the district's multiple municipal and county public safety partners, ensuring that safety and security practices support welcoming school environments, student well-being, equity, and public trust.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, implements, and oversees the districtwide school safety strategy, integrating prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery and establishing clear priorities, standards, and expectations for schools and departments.
  • Directs the Department of School Safety as a multi-division, 24/7 operation, including Campus Security, Armed Patrol, Dispatch, Emergency Management, and Judicial Services/Behavioral Threat Management, through the leadership of senior managers and supervisors.

EXPERIENCE 7 years of experience of senior leadership experience in public safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or a comparably complex organization, including senior-level responsibility for a multi-faceted safety, security, or emergency management function. EDUCATION & TRAINING Bachelor's degree required. Preferred field of study of emergency management or criminal justice. Additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. This role offers substantial responsibility from day one. You will be actively involved in all phases of litigation, including managing discovery (including complex ESI protocols), handling discovery disputes, working closely with technical and damages experts, preparing detailed patent infringement and invalidity claim charts, drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, and contributing to Federal Circuit appeals. You will also have opportunities to mentor and train more junior associates.


What will you bring?

  • A solid foundation in legal research and writing.
  • A technical bachelor's degree and USPTO patent bar admittance, although USPTO admission is not required at the time of hire.
  • A Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery protocols and tools. (Relativity is preferred).
  • Eagerness and interest in developing your own books of business.
  • A background that includes Law Review or Moot Court. (highly valued).

Benefit and Compensation Summary

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mediation experience is highly preferred.
  • Trial experience preferred but not required.
  • Researching and analyzing the law on complex legal issues.
  • Writing memorandums, briefs, letters, and other documents.
  • Marketing your and the firm’s services to prospective clients.
  • Performing discovery of various electronically stored data and hard copies of information in preparation for litigation.
  • Performing due diligence in legal matters concerning contracts, agreements, and mergers and acquisitions
  • Communicating and advising clients.
  • Managing a schedule to allow for consults and closure of consults to sufficient reach production/collection objectives.
  • Closing consults within Gravis range of 30-50% depending on practice area.
  • Ensure support staff are fully utilized and productive.
  • Actively engage in brand (personal and firm) expansion through blogs social media posts, board, and organization participation, etc.
  • Actively seek positive comments from successful client engagements and positive star reviews.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS*:

Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent legal research skills.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Admission (or eligibility for reciprocal admission) to the bar in the state in which you intend to practice.
  • 3+ years of experience as an attorney.
