Structural Department Manager
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Office
RT Patterson (Powered by Allied Resources Group) has an immediate opening in our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office for a full-time Structural Department Manager to design and implement heavy industrial facility (new and existing) equipment and structural foundations, piles, mill buildings, structures/platforms, and pipe racks/supports. To do well in this role we you are a licensed professional engineer and have extensive experience as a Civil/Structural engineer conforming to the following responsibilities and requirements.
Structural Engineer Responsibilities:
- Perform basic and advanced engineering analysis and design for heavy industrial facilities. Implement design or analysis tasks in accordance with building code requirements.
- Collect. review, and prepare data and information (Design Criteria) needed for project design.
- Conduct field/site trips and investigations associated with a project where you will obtain needed information and measurements.
- Supervise the work of other engineers and CAD technicians/designers.
- Manage design work from beginning to end.
- Review of construction drawings.
- Review and approval of fabrication drawings.
- Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities.
- Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential structural engineering projects and studies.
- Preparing civil/structural construction specifications.
- Training of project team members.
- Estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation.
- Manage engineering projects and deliver them on time.
- Define customer needs and requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers and CAD technicians/designers from other disciplines as well as other companies. Work in a team environment.
Structural Engineer Requirements:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering degree from an ABET accredited school.
- 5+ years relevant work experience, including internship or cooperative program experience.
- Licensed as a professional engineer. (required)
- Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, Mill Building standards.
- Proficient in design and calculation software – STAAD.Pro and/or RISA 3D.
- Knowledge of civil/structural Excel spreadsheets and MathCAD preferred.
- Proven expertise as a Structural Engineer.
- Must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD. Knowledge of Advanced Steel is a plus.

Summary:
Reporting to TEN’s Vice President, Engineering, the Director-Design Engineering is responsible for overseeing the development and supporting the delivery of multi-disciplined construction projects. This role ensures that all design outputs meet technical, regulatory, and quality standards while aligning with project objectives and client requirements. Responsibilities:
Design Phase Leadership & Commercial Strategy
- Lead and manage internal and external multidisciplinary design teams (architects, engineers, and consultants) through all phases of design within a Design/Build delivery model, from concept development through design completion.
- Define and control design scope, standards, schedules, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives, contractual obligations, and client expectations.
- Lead and participate in commercial negotiations with owners, design consultants, and key trade partners related to design scope, fees, risk allocation, and change management.
- Facilitate design coordination and decision-making with clients, internal stakeholders, and external partners to resolve technical and commercial issues efficiently.
- Oversee development of coordinated, complete, and constructible design solutions that enable accurate pricing, competitive proposals, and predictable construction outcomes.

- Serve as the primary design authority during construction, providing technical leadership and commercial support to project managers, superintendents, and field teams.
- Support interpretation of drawings, specifications, and design intent while assessing cost, schedule, and contractual implications of design decisions.
- Review and respond to requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and design clarifications with a focus on minimizing commercial exposure and avoiding schedule disruption.
- Evaluate proposed field changes, substitutions, and value engineering initiatives for technical feasibility, constructability, cost impact, risk allocation, and contract compliance.
- Lead coordination with architects, engineers, design-assist partners, and subcontractors to negotiate and resolve design-related issues encountered during construction.
- Ensure all approved design changes are accurately incorporated into revised documents and as-built records, maintaining alignment with contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activities for adherence to approved design documents.
- Support commissioning, testing, and closeout activities to ensure systems perform as designed and contractual obligations are met.
- Maintain alignment between design intent, construction execution, and financial performance, actively supporting margin protection, change management, and dispute avoidance.

Job Responsibilities and Expectations:
- The primary role of this position will be to provide account management/sales targeting industrial, utility generations, data center, hospitals, and electrical contractors to sell Shermco’s full line of electrical testing, maintenance, repair & engineering services.
- Perform direct sales and business development activities which contribute to the growth and retention of business so as to meet or exceed targeted sales goals.
- Qualify prospective sales opportunities to determine which opportunities to pursue.
- Accountable for attaining yearly multi-million dollar sales budgets
- Identify, develop and implement sales strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of estimates, sales proposals, and sales presentations.
- Visit assigned account(s) on a regular basis in order to maintain a "strategic relationship" status; identifies necessary account changes and opportunities as quickly as possible.
- Maintain industry knowledge and improve technical knowledge based on market requirements
- Support our key marketing activities necessary to support sales growth in efforts such as, road shows, national conferences, tradeshows, sales trainings, and various sales engagement activities such as trade organizations.
- Manages pricing and channel issues as they arise relating to competitive quotes and cross selling conflicts.
- Support account from sales, securing purchase orders, terms and conditions, and customer relations.
- Perform job walks.
- Be a front line focal point between sales and production to qualify opportunities.
- Be able to support lunch and learns and lead customer discussions.
- Work with Customer Service group to enhance customer’s buying experience.
- Support Shermco training events and trade shows.
- Import sales activity into CRM.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.

- Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
- Must be able to travel overnight approximately 5 - 10% of the time to visit customers, prospective customers, and attend trade shows.
- Must be able to drive for extended periods, work at a desk/cubicle on a PC, and visit and tour varying customer sites with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.

About the role:
We're seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer to build and scale the data infrastructure that powers our retail technology platform. As a key member of our early-stage team, you'll design and implement robust data pipelines, establish best practices for data engineering, and enable data-driven decision making across the organization. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data foundation of a growing startup and work with cutting-edge technologies in both batch and streaming data processing.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines for both batch and streaming workloads using Python and Spark
- Build and maintain cloud-native data infrastructure to support our retail analytics and operational needs
- Develop real-time streaming solutions to process transaction, inventory, and operational data
- Develop AI agents to automate operations
- Implement data quality validation and monitoring to ensure reliability across our data ecosystem
- Establish DataOps best practices and automation as we scale our data infrastructure Own data security and privacy compliance as we handle sensitive customer and business data
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions

What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Python for data processing and pipeline development
- Production experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
- Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Proven track record implementing both batch and streaming data pipelines
- Deep understanding of SQL and modern data warehouse technologies
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, and workflow orchestration Experience with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills with ability to translate business needs into technical solutions Thrives in fast-paced, early-stage startup environments with changing priorities
Nice to have:
- Experience in retail tech, e-commerce, or similar enterprise systems
- Expertise with real-time processing frameworks like Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink
- Proficiency with Python data handling libraries (pandas, NumPy, polars)
- Knowledge of data quality and observability platforms
- Understanding of event-driven architectures, medallion architectures, and CDC patterns
- Previous experience at an early-stage startup or building data infrastructure from scratch
- Background working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms or enterprise analytics systems
