Great American Restaurants is seeking an experienced Director of Construction Development to join our growing construction team. This on-site role is based out of our support center office in Fairfax, Virginia, with frequent on-site work expected at all new and existing locations. Established in 1974, Great American Restaurants operates thirteen high-volume, upper casual restaurants, an upscale dining location, three artisan bakeries, and a fast-casual BBQ joint in Northern Virginia and Maryland.
With several new locations in progress and more in the works, this new role will contribute to all aspects of the construction and development process, with a strong focus on design and planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, kitchen designers, general contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver ground-up builds and major remodels on time and within budget.
- Apply strong technical expertise in construction processes and building design, working with architects, engineers, and trades to build complex, high-quality restaurant environments.
- Review and validate architectural and MEP plans. Identify and address issues prior to mobilization.
- Implement permitting strategy with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

As a Construction Inspector-Senior, you will perform general construction inspection tasks to verify compliance standards codes, and ordinances, zoning regulations, as well as contract plans, specifications, and special provisions. Projects will consist of bridges, roadways, and environmental components to these services. This position is available in Northern Virginia, Richmond, Lynchburg, Christiansburg, and Hampton Roads areas of VA.
Responsibilities:
- Inspects and monitors construction sites and the various work activities on these sites to verify adherence to standards, codes, and specifications.
- Prepares and submits daily reports documenting inspections and other relevant project information.
- Must adhere to all project contract documentation and testing of materials associated with inspections.
- Assists in the preparation of contract change orders, contract estimates, progress pay estimates, and other documents or reports required by the project.
- Verifies lines and grades of project improvements.
- Coordinate and perform field testing of materials associated with inspection as required.
- Implement quantity calculations for pay estimates.
- Performs analytical calculations such as basic earthwork, grading, profiles, and special staking procedures.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent construction QC experience.
- Minimum 10+ years of quality control experience on vertical or horizontal construction projects.
- Experience working with federal government construction contracts, including USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, or VA projects.
- Strong knowledge of federal construction standards, specifications, and QA/QC processes.
- Proficiency with QC documentation and government software systems (RMS/QCS).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Ability to work onsite and coordinate with multiple subcontractors and government inspectors.
Preferred Certifications
- USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM-C) certification
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Professional certifications such as CQE, CQA, or PMP are a plus.
Security Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a cleared background check and fingerprinting prior to onboarding.
