Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.
GENERAL PATIENT CARE - Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the
patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene
procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen
and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital
signs, collects lab specimens.
TECHNICAL CARE - Assists with completion of patient testing and
treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG,
simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, changes dressings, performs
cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound and throat cultures.
EQUIPMENT - Assists physician and professional staff in equipment
supply and set up.
TRANSPORT - Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices
such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures.
COMMUNICATION - Performs required documentation and
communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient
and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict
confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to
ensure patient rights.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Utilizes time and resources effectively to
promote quality and cost outcomes.

What you’ll do:
The OR Surgical Tech demonstrates basic intraoperative scrub responsibilities. Prepares surgical team. Assists in basic draping. Positions OR equipment & supplies. Prepares & operates room equipment. Creates sterile area using aseptic technique. Prepares supplies, recognizes and corrects when sterility is compromised. Demonstrates proper handling of surgical specimens. Performs counts per policy and procedures. Follows National Patient Safety Goal guidelines.
Demonstrates basic case preparation - Selects equipment & supplies by use of preference cards. Locates basic equipment & supplies. Identifies & demonstrates methods of surgical reprocessing of instrumentation & supplies. Prepares self for the scrub role. Prepares surgical instrument supplies for surgery.

The Loyola Emergency Department (ED) provides comprehensive, 24/7 emergency care to a diverse patient population spanning all age groups, from newborns to geriatric patients. With 28 beds, including dedicated trauma and pediatric bays, the ED manages a wide spectrum of medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions. As a level 1 American College of Surgeons verified trauma center and comprehensive stroke center, it offers specialized care such as cardiac monitoring, mechanical ventilation, and trauma interventions. Staffed by a team of highly credentialed nurses, the department operates under rigorous professional standards aligned with national guidelines and regulatory requirements. The ED serves approximately 42,000 visits annually and engages in community outreach through educational initiatives and support programs. The position is 7p-7a/ 3p to 3a, every other weekend, every other holiday.
