- Performs nuclear medicine procedures. Nuclear medicine is a modality of radiology that uses radioactive substances.
- Proactively assesses, identifies and responds to the needs of the patient for adjustment or intervention to optimize patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications and limitations associated with certain procedures.
- Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, including assisting with sterile technique
- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills, terminology and language.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Uses ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to protect patients, staff and general public, and follows radiation safety standards. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with radiation safety and infection control procedures. Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
- Reports “near misses” and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvement activities, and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
- Performs daily imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate.

- Performs interventional and therapeutic radiologic procedures including but not limited to: peripheral and coronary angioplasty, stents, rotablators, artherectomy, laser, and coronary ultrasound; electrophysiology procedures including ablations and device implantation, fluoroscopy and cine modalities, as well as recommending various radiological techniques to maximize best visualization of patient’s cardiac anatomy.
- Actively participates and scrubs into Cath Lab cases to assist with the movement and alignment of equipment as well as the control of radiation throughout procedures.
- Provides care for the physical needs of patients by executing various Radiologic concepts to maximize performance. This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications / limitations associated with certain procedures. Proactively identifies how to address these for optimum outcomes.

Applies professional nursing skills in applying the four aspects of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) when indicated to evaluate needs of incoming patient based on level of care, availability of beds, physician order, and unit capability.
Uses critical thinking skills and knowledge of disease processes to intervene and/or guide non clinical personnel when there is a known or unknown confounding factor which would negatively impact the patient and/or patient flow.
Manages all patient placement and progression functions in a responsive manner responding to all callers with the aid of the electronic health record, approved clinical protocols, and established patient care protocols and healthcare information.
Works with all Memorial Hermann hospital teams and key stakeholders on facilitating efficient, timely placement of patients across the system.
Facilitate the coordination of patient placement with physicians, staff RNs, and other departments while meeting state and federal regulations (COBRA/EMTALA); plan of care to optimize patient outcomes and decrease length of stay in an unbiased, standardized manner
Uses available tracking systems to maintain ongoing surveillance of available staffed beds. Monitors progress with bed assignments and arrivals of patients to assigned units; monitors for timeliness of transfers and discharges.
