Location: Sumter, SC 29153
Duration: 6 Months Contract
- Clients are willing to look at candidates with 10 years' experience.
- Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that ensure the overall safety and health of employees and that enables compliant business operations.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of EH&S laws, regulations and management systems.
- Makes design recommendations with a basic understanding of the Reference Architecture and Application Transition plan.
- Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own job family.
- Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and non-standard situations.
- Works independently with minimal guidance.
- Usually determines own work priorities.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
Job Summary:
- The Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer acts as the technical Subject Matter Expert, SME, for the sites Environmental Health and Safety compliance and maturity.
- The engineer researches and understands applicable norms, permits, and standards and integrates them into the site's work processes and practices.
- This individual either supports or leads sustainability projects across the site.
- The Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer assists in maintaining the site's ISO 14001 certification by ensuring the site is always audit ready.
Job Responsibilities: (Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)
- Key player in all Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives on-site.
- Acting as the deputy EHS Leader when the EHS Leader is absent.
- Actively participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert as a member of the EHS Team.
- Participates as an EHS expert as a member of new equipment project teams, from design to operational stage.
- Acts as an influential leader in site safety and sustainability campaigns.
- Interacts with the authorities and insurance companies as site representative on technical EHS topics.
- Maintain technical expertise in Machine guarding, Lock out Tag out, and other relevant technical Safety programs.
- Maintain knowledge of the site Sustainability targets and projects to ensure their achievement and completion.
- Core contributor to the ISO 14001 certification.
- Participate as requested in EHS programs.
- A strong interest in bringing positivity to the workplace, including growing the Safety and Sustainability Culture and influencing the mindset of associates, peers, and superiors in a positive manner.
Education and Experience:
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
- Or a Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science degree in a Technical Field or Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, and 5 or more years of relevant manufacturing experience.
- Min of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading EHS projects and teams.
- Professional (ASP/CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certifications, preferred.
- Experience in managing environmental compliance including reporting and record keeping, environmental permitting for manufacturing operations and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in evaluating/interpreting OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.
- Title V reporting and regulations.
- Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in ISO14001 compliance preferred

- Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with people at all levels and in various functions including technical staff, business team leaders, and union personnel.

- Demonstrate understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws.
