Design Engineer – Junction Box

Position Overview

Virginia Transformer Corporation is seeking a Design Engineer – Junction Box to join our engineering team in Troutville, Virginia. This role is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of junction box assemblies used in power transformer systems. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs meet technical specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements.

This position plays a key role in supporting Virginia Transformer's continued growth by delivering reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective electrical enclosure solutions for utility, industrial, renewable energy, and critical infrastructure customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop junction box assemblies and related electrical enclosure components for power transformer systems.
• Produce detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs) using CAD tools.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are efficient, manufacturable, and scalable.
• Review and interpret customer specifications, engineering standards, and project requirements.
• Support new product development and engineering change initiatives.
• Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical support to production and field teams.
• Work with supply chain and vendors to identify suitable materials and components.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, electrical codes, and internal quality requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation and support ERP/PLM updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 3–10+ years of design engineering experience, preferably in electrical equipment, enclosures, transformers, switchgear, or industrial manufacturing.
• Experience with CAD design tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and enclosure design.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, assembly, and electrical integration.

Construction & Expansion (C&E) Document Controls Specialist

Position Summary

The Construction & Expansion (C&E) Document Controls Specialist supports the C&E Controls Manager by maintaining document management, version control, and record integrity across the company's capital construction and expansion portfolio.

This role serves as the system administrator and gatekeeper for capital project documentation, ensuring that all financial, contractual, change, and stage-gate records are accurate, complete, current, and audit-ready. The position enforces documentation standards and governance processes that protect capital integrity and reduce risk.

Key Responsibilities

Document Management & System Administration

• Administer the capital project document control system.
• Maintain standardized folder structures and naming conventions across all projects.
• Ensure proper version control of contracts, drawings, budgets, change orders, forecasts, and reports.

Position Summary

Our Utility Client's System Operations Engineering department is seeking a motivated individual to support the Company's evolving transmission grid and assist with the industry leading projects we have in progress. Our team is seeking a Senior Business Process Analyst to assist the growing team.

The System Operations Engineering team supports our client's System Operators by maintaining and updating our Energy Management System (EMS). The is a complex software system that receives hundreds of thousands of measurements from substations within a territory and neighboring utilities, makes them available to the System Operators in a variety of views, and performs complex calculations on this data for many different purposes, such as 'what-if' scenarios (called Contingency Analysis). This team is also in the midst of two multi-year projects; one of which including partnering with a vendor to build a state-of-the-art synchrophasor-bases EMS as well as upgrading our current EMS.

The BPA will work with the team and leadership, assisting with administrative and general business activities and processes. You will learn our existing processes and workflows within the team, helping to document and improve them, help design and maintain onboarding and training programs, assist with tracking and monitoring metrics, help offload administrative burden, and improve coordination amongst cross-functional teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Qualifications:

• 4+ years experience in a Business Process Analyst, Process Improvement, or related role.

Performs routine and moderately difficult design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic drafting techniques, E3D, 2D & 3D CAD software, procedures, knowledge of applicable industry standards, and design standards with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

Develops under minimal supervision, CADD drawings from design sketches or catalog information.

Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities, and implemented in work designed.

Prepares moderately complex engineering and constructions drawing from scratch, sketches or verbal instruction, utilizing manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.

Marks up works in progress for others to draft (or CADD).

Performs related fundamental engineering support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, compiling Bills of Material, etc.

Communicates the design process with assigned discipline and coordinates work with other disciplines on assigned projects.

Checks basic layouts, designs and general arrangements of other designers and drafters for accuracy and compliance with code and company client standards and soundness of design basis used.

May utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, etc. to do design work.

Field notes are neatly arranged, accurate and complete.

Sketches are readable by anyone and include all pertinent dimensions, notes and job number.

Uses time efficiently. Promptly act on established goals, understand constructive advice, and adjust to changing directions.

Performs tasks aware of the schedule requirements. Recognize that we all have internal and external customers who are dependent on the quality and timeliness of our output to meet their commitments. Coordinate assigned work to support all customers.

Keeps supervisor informed of progress.

Quality assurance for personal work assignments.

Supports field assignments as required.

Independently undertake actions, make recommendations, or provide notification when potential problems and opportunities are discovered or additional assignments are required.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write more detailed correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Knowledge of algebra and basic trigonometry is required.

Must demonstrate a proficiency in utilizing computer assisted techniques for difficult design applications.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

BIM 360 Experience

Experience with Laser Scanning/Total Station activities a plus.

Ability to perform Field Data Acquisition duties, including taking accurate measurements, walking, climbing stairs/ladders. Experience with Laser Scanning/Total Station activities a plus.

Education Requirements:

High school education or equivalent with basic drafting courses training from vo-tech or other applicable program.

Minimum of nine to ten years of technical work experience.

As an alternative, a minimum of three years of education in an associate or bachelor degree program for the relevant discipline with six plus years of experience in that discipline.

Experience based on knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify with the approval of Director of Engineering.
