This position is within the Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

• Sets up and operates conventional and CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines on proved-in complex precision production parts that are produced from materials varying from standard to exotic.
• Must maintain quality of set ups using skills that require a comprehensive knowledge of tools, tool geometry, feeds, speeds, and blueprint/ planning.
• Utilizing project and SIE (Standard Inspection Equipment) to ensure quality assurance while performing machining operations.
• Performs the removal of burrs and sharp edges on any metallic and nonmetallic fabricated parts.
• Must maintain acceptable finishes and hold part tolerances as specified by blueprint/planning requirements using a variety of manual and power equipment.
• Sets up and operates a variety of rotary, vibrating and tumbling equipment, along with grit blasting.
• Sets up and operates all relevant material prep equipment and accessories utilizing proper speeds and feeds to perform necessary shearing and cutting.
• Unit requires working with and using any available magnification or visual enhancement equipment (i.e. Standard microscopes, eye loops, optic visors) on a variety of small parts.

Qualifications You Must Have

• High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED).
• Two years recent experience within the last 4 years operating CNC and conventional machines.
• Works from verbal and written operation instructions such as, work orders, CNC data sheets, and blueprints.
• Ability to use inspection equipment, such as micrometers, dial calipers, thread gauges, plug gauges, and air gauges.
• Performs necessary machine and tooling offset changes to maintain setup.
• Evaluates tool wear and changes tools such as mills, inserts, drills, and reamers.
• Must be able to make minor edits to the CNC program such as tool stations and spindle direction.
• Must be able to work any designated shift to include overnight.
• Must pass practical test within 90 days of hiring into this position.

• Performs the set up and prove-in of complex precision production hardware and potential pre-production engineering hardware with the UPMF (Ultra Precision Machine Fabrication).

Analytical and Critical Thinking:

• Input data into estimating systems.
• Generates initial labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor budget estimates for new projects including estimate refinements.

This is a Program direct-support position and requires a technical understanding of piece part electronic components and their assembly level applications.  This candidate will transition into a key leadership position in the supporting program Obsolescence Integrated Product Team and will drive issue resolution for situations involving obsolescence.  

The selected candidate will perform and/or assist in the performance of Parts Engineering, Components Engineering or Applications Engineering tasks supporting programs in the Proposal, System Design Description, Low Rate Initial Production, Production and Support phases. Position will require day to day interface with Designers, Contracts, Estimating, Supply Chain, Program Management, and other disciplines.

• Understand and/or generate a program statement of work (SOW) and other defined customer component application requirements.   

• Develop and/or sustain a proactive Obsolescence Management process to deliver cost saving obsolescence mitigation strategies and solutions. 

• Drive resolution through support or execution of lifetime buys, selections of alternate parts, redesign efforts or other mitigation strategies and will facilitate and support contract negotiations, basis of estimates, and supplier statements of work for proposal efforts. 

• Interact with Program and customer leadership on a regular basis to communicate status of mitigation strategies. 

• Conduct trade study analysis help identify cost effective obsolescence driven cut in points for proposed unit redesigns.  

Qualifications You Must Have: 

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience with any combination of the following:  

• Experience with proactive and reactive component obsolescence management methodologies. 

• Experience with data collection, analysis, and presentation skills to adequately discuss system impact of component obsolescence issues. 

• Experience with project management working with schedules, costs, and integration of stakeholder needs throughout the obsolescence process. 

• Financial and Contract Management experience with proposals, BOE, EVMs, SOWs, CLINs and CDRLs. 

• Experience with BOM (Bill of Material) development and management for developmental and production programs. 

• Risk and Opportunity business case analysis experience supporting sustainment vs redesign cut in decisions.

What You Will Do:

• Direct phases of programs from inception through completion, act as an Integrated Product Manager of multi-disciplinary employees on projects in technical manufacturing and administrative areas.
• Oversee and coordinate the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within program guidelines.
• Analyze data gathered and develop solutions or alternative methods of proceeding to optimize performance and increase efficiency of work.
• Facilitate project tasks with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.
• Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contract.
• Coordinate with program leadership, finance, and planning to execute Earned Value Management (EVM).
• Experience managing a cross functional team (test personnel (electrical, software, mechanical, etc.)).
• Presentation experience to executive and/or functional leadership of analytic and program performance results for Test Systems Engineering or equivalent engineering programs.

Qualifications You Must Have: 

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.

• Experience performing the functionalities of Systems Test Engineering to include experience for both hardware and software development, integration, verification, validation, and maintenance activities within production/manufacturing/product qualification environments.
• Experience utilizing Earned Value Management System (EVMS) or similar management tools.
• Budget and schedule experience with Test Systems Engineering or equivalent Engineering programs.
• Experience generating Baseline Change Requests (BCR), Basis of Estimates (BOE), and financial performance reports for Program Performance reviews for Systems Test Engineering.
•  The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer: 

• Experience with all the functionalities of Automation Test Equipment/Unit Under Test (ATE/UUT).
• Agile Methodologies understanding
• Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) technology across Communications, Radar systems, and Electro Optical/ Infrared systems.
• Scrum Master / Azure DevOps (ADS) Experience 
• Keysight, Presidio Based Automation System Experience with ATEasy
• Running and maintaining Test Equipment Modification Authorization (TEMA) review boards and sustainment driven work teams 
• Working knowledge of CCAs, Sub-systems and ability to troubleshoot 
• Experience driving through Raytheon One Page Process through gate reviews

About the Role

Seeking a motivated, hands-on Systems Engineer to support a new Project, focused on advancing cancer diagnostics through state-of-the-art testing automation. This role plays a critical part in defining product requirements, system architectures, and risk management strategies for in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) solutions used globally across more than 250 cancer tests and associated instruments.

This is an onsite position ideal for an engineer with strong electro-mechanical systems experience and a background in regulated medical device development.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply Systems Engineering principles across the product lifecycle, including requirements definition, system architecture, risk analysis, and verification & validation
• Manage front-end systems engineering deliverables related to requirements, risks, trade studies, and testing
• Plan and execute requirements management, risk analysis, and V&V activities
• Analyze complex technical problems, develop solution options, and support data-driven decision-making
• Conduct industry and technology assessments, including emerging trends and competitive product analysis
• Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Regulatory teams
• Engage with business stakeholders and Voice-of-Customer (VoC) representatives to align technical solutions with customer needs

Required Qualifications

• Experience in front-end Systems Engineering, including requirements engineering, architecture definition, risk management, and trade-off analysis
• Hands-on experience with systems and hardware integration and testing
• Experience working in a regulated medical device environment
• Familiarity with FDA, ISO, and other applicable diagnostic product standards
• Experience using systems engineering tools such as RETINA or similar platforms

• Deep knowledge of reliability, manufacturability, and usability engineering
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to build authority and accountability within cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills
